ONTARIO, Ore. - In a second incidence of weekend violence in Ontario, a Caldwell woman was found dead in a residence with a gunshot wound. Police are calling it murder, and one arrest has been made.

On Sunday morning at about 10 a.m., Ontario Police officers arrived at the 500 block of Southeast 7th Avenue regarding an unattended death and discovered the body of 20-year-old Apolonia Deleon of Caldwell. Officers suspected Deleon had been shot, but the official cause of death is still under the investigation of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office in Portland. That autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Marcos Delafuente, 34, was arrested and is being held in the Malheur County Jail, charged with the murder of Deleon, according to Ontario Captain Mark Alexander.

It's the second homicide case in two days for Ontario investigators. Deleon's death comes on the heels of a fatal Ontario shooting Saturday.

At about 7 a.m., officers were sent to the Fairview Apartments on the 500 block of Northwest 9th Street regarding numerous gunshots.

The gunfire killed 25-year-old Rudy Mata of Ontario, who was transported to Holy Rosary Medical Center where he later died.Investigators described the shooting as gang-related.

Mata's brother, Gonzalo Mata, 26, also of Ontario, was also shot. He was transported to Holy Rosary Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Gonzalo Mata was arrested on charges of attempted murder and is being held in the Malheur County Jail. Another Ontario man was also arrested in the incident. Amando Torres Jr., 25, of Ontario, was arrested for murder and attempted murder for the injuries to Gonzalo Mata and the death of Rudy Mata.

A Nyssa, Ore., man, Oscar Garcia III, 23, fled the scene and was arrested later Saturday. He has been charged with murder and attempted murder for the injuries to Gonzalo Mata and the death of Rudy Mata.

The investigation into Saturday's fatal shooting is still under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Jecg and EX, this makes me sick as we used to live in Malheur county, in Burns (my parents had a bakery there), and it was the one place I imagined to be a refuge from what I have been seeing over here, now I am disillusioned, and sad for the people of Malheur county.

I went to school in Caldwell back in the early 90's. If there ever was the proverbial "small town America," Caldwell was it! I cannot believe how much that little town has apparently changed in that span of time! I do not recall Caldwell having a problem with invaders back then. Then again, I didn't understand the nature of the problem then either, so who's to really say.

In any event, it's not very good news to say the least!

EX, that is Leo (Leopold), a Blue Lynx Point Siamese. He was born wild and I saw he and his three brothers out after their mother disappeared. I caught him first, and then the others, tamed them and got the others homes. Leo is now just 1, and his roommate, Felix (a large Tuxedo with green eyes, also known at the "Green Eyed Monster"), who is 7, are our only two, we used to have three, but the oldest died from unknown causes (Oliver, yes they seem to always be males with us, not intentional, and also always have human, French inspired names).

Awwwwww. You are such a good person, AE. And sorry for the loss of Oliver. I lost my first cat, Daisy, a calico, too. She died of feline leukemia. Thank God she was not with us very long, so I didn't take it as hard. My 2 cats today are 14 and 12 yrs old. I know they don't have much longer to live, and since I've had them since birth, I know I will be highly traumatized. I just try not to think about it and enjoy them every day. Sigh. I love cats and dogs. I have 2 Labs too. If anything happened to them.....Ok, I don't want to even go there.

EX, the youger one is a skiddish as can be. We also had his uncle, but he had an injury that the vet tried to fix (in his hip), but could not, he got put down. Both cats, both Lynx Point Siamese, very scared of seemingly their own shadows!!

Must be the breed. It seems each breed of cat I have come across has some different attributes. The big one, the tuxedo (have had two now) are the "king" of the house. He even gets snotty and bossy with us, growls at us for sitting next to him on the couch when he does not want anyone to bother him, the other guy, you move to fast, he runs and hides.

Cats are wonderful! Did you know I have seen them eat snakes! And let's not forget the rats!

Don't get all the cats fixed like the government wants us to. Gets all your neighbors to fall in love with cats; and they will adopt your favorites as their own.

Some of my favorites only come to visit when they need me. But then I have the in and out ones; and the one that never leaves my front yard. And the one who thinks she is a dog, several of those. The one that prefers the basement. At one time there was 22 cats, even at Halloween, children have adopted cats.

Most people love my animals it is weird!

And those dogs are ok! Just this morning, I hear a man talking outside the house; and thought why isn't half sheperd/ half rottweiler barking; the oldest son was feeding her Boganles.

vmonkey, my friends little terrier catches gardner snakes and eats them!!YUK! She will come home, my friend said, with snake innards all over her face!

My cats will catch snakes and play with them as though they were live strings, and the snakes will die from fright and injury. However, I do discourage that one as the gardner snakes are very helpful, and keep our slug and yard/garden pest problems to a low here (we have tons of gardner snakes here).

My oldest will catch moles though, he actually listens for them and then digs them out really fast (those blind pests are extremely fast at getting themselves dug back into the ground). I have seen him dig up moles the size of full grown guinea pigs, and attempt to eat them.
