F. Peter Brown — September 17, 2014
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Audit the Fed” bill today by a vote of 333-92. This is the second time this bill has passed the House of Representatives. The first time, it was passed by the House was in 2012, after being introduced by Congressman Ron Paul.
Ron Paul was quick to support the effort this time around as well, this time from outside of Congress. He stated:
I am pleased to see the House of Representatives once again pass this historic legislation. The support ‘Audit the Fed’ has received over the past few years has been tremendous. I urge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to listen to the American people and hold a vote on ‘Audit the Fed’ right away. The question is whether Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will allow the bill to come to the floor. Last time, he refused to let the bill come to the floor of the Senate, although he had formerly championed the bill during his time in Congress. Here is a video of him championing ‘Audit the Fed’ in 1995:

Here’s a Harry Reid quote from the video:
“I have sponsored legislation every year that would call for an audit of the Federal Reserve system. I offer that amendment every year, every year it gets nowhere,” Reid says. “I think it would be interesting to know about the Federal Reserve. I think we should audit the Federal Reserve — it’s taxpayer’s money that’s being used there. But we don’t do that.”A whopping 74 percent of the American people support “Audit the Fed.”
Last time around, the Senate bill introduced by Rand Paul had 37 cosponsors. However, Harry Reid still refused to allow the bill to come to vote.
What do you think? Should “Audit the Fed” be passed into law, allowing Americans a look at the inner workings of this secretive and important organization?
