White House Chief Of Staff Andy Card Resigns

WASHINGTON --White House chief of staff Andy Card has resigned and will be replaced by budget director Josh Bolten, an administration official said Tuesday.

President Bush was expected to announce the shake up during a meeting with reporters later Tuesday morning in the Oval Office of the White House.

The move comes amid a sharp decline in Bush's approval ratings and calls from Republicans for the president to bring in new aides with fresh ideas and new energy.

Card came to Bush recently and suggested that he should step down from the job that he has held from the first day of Bush's presidency, said the administration official.

Bush decided during a weekend stay at Camp David, Md., to accept Card's resignation and to name Bolten as his replacement, said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity because he did not want to pre-empt the president.

Bolten is widely experienced in Washington, both on Capitol Hill as well as at the White House, where he was deputy chief of staff before becoming director of the Office of Management and Budget.

At a White House news conference last week, Bush was asked about rumors that a shakeup in the White House staff was in the works. Bush said he was "satisfied with the people I've surrounded myself with."

"I've got a staff of people that have, first of all, placed their country above their self-interests," he said at the time. "These are good, hard- working, decent people. And we've dealt with a lot. We've dealt with a lot. We've dealt with war. We've dealt with recession. We've dealt with scandal. We've dealt with Katrina.

"I mean, they've had a lot on their plate. And I appreciate their performance and their hard work and they've got my confidence," he said.

Bush said, "I'm satisfied with the people I've surrounded myself with. We've been a remarkably stable administration, and I think that's good for the country."

Too bad it doesn't read that Jorge Bush and Dick Cheney resigned.

DITTO! Bush and Cheney should be kicked out!
I get the feeling that something more is behind Card's resignation.

And you've pretty much made a mess of each and every one of those things too !! At least he "admits" he hasn't dealt with America's security at the borders.

The first thing his new chief of staff should tell him, "Stop with the stupid rhetoric, the American people are on to you, numbskull. They've heard all the stupid things you repeat 1,000 times and it's to the point where the networks are going to tell you "no" when you want to say something. Our main goal here, George, is going to be to TRY to keep you from being impeached at this point. That in itself is going to be close to impossible. The best thing would be for us to keep you "out of sight, out of mind". They're SICK OF YOU. You nauseate the American people. When you start talking they start vomiting. People don't like to throw up, George. "

UNfortunately, that is probably exactly the reason Card is "resigning" Legal. He probably has pointed out some of those things and the President only wants to be surrounded with yes-men who will agree with his half-baked ideas or at least be silent about it if they don't.
