SEATTLE – President Barack Obama will be in Seattle for a brief visit Friday afternoon and that will mean traffic issues during rush hour.
The President is expected to land at Boeing Field in the afternoon and will attend a fundraiser for Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle. He'll depart Boeing Field sometime after that Friday evening.
Drivers went through this a couple of weeks ago when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the region. What’s different this time is Obama is expected to visit just Seattle. The exact travel route for Obama's motorcade has not been released for security purposes.
Seattle police say drivers should expect intermittent closures of freeways, arterials, and downtown Seattle streets. But the backups created in Seattle will also be felt on other freeways around the region, as we saw with Xi’s visit.

Security will be heightened around the Westin Hotel in an area bordered by Olive Street, Seventh Avenue, Lenora Street, and Fourth Avenue. Vehicle access will be limited to Fifth Avenue between Lenora and Virginia streets, and on Stewart street between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
Metro Transit says riders should be prepared for significant delays downtown between 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Buses that travel on Stewart and Virginia streets will be rerouted. Routes 25, 66, 70, 177, 178, 304, 355 and Sound Transit 545 are affected.
The South Lake Union Streetcar will still run, but the stop at McGraw Square will be closed. The downtown transit tunnel is expected to stay open.
Security precautions for the president’s visit, including his motorcade route and closures, are determined by the U.S. Secret Service, not by city or state officials.
    Check transit delays
