Gundersen: Terrifying cancer data for Fukushima — “Statistics are astounding especially for young girls” — “Growing concern around cancer risk” (VIDEO)

Fairewinds Energy Education, Mar. 20, 2014: Cancer Risk To Young Children Near Fukushima Daiichi Underestimated — As the three year anniversary of the triple meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi just passed, our minds have been on the health of the Japanese people, in particular the children. This week’s film is a reissue of a film we released last year featuring Ian Goddard and Fairewinds’ Arnie Gundersen discussing the risk of cancer in children in and around Fukushima prefecture. The statistics are astounding especially for young girls. For every year a young girl is the in the radiation zone 1 in 100 girls is going to get cancer due to their exposure from Fukushima. As each year passes it compounds, so if a young girl is there for 10 years, 10 out of 100 will get cancer. The statistics are terrifying and the Japanese government has allowed families with young children to return to Fukushima prefecture.
Introduction: “In response to growing concern around cancer risk to children, in particular young girls, in and around the Fukushima Prefecture, we’re reissuing a film we made last year. [...] 1 in every 100 young girls will devlop cancer for every year they are exposed to Fukushima’s radiation”

Video: “Pacific Ocean is under incredible threat… Americans are now starting to reap that on their West Coast” — Kamps: “An unprecedented catastrophe… should be independent monitors sent to Fukushima to try to get the truth as to how bad this is”

Published: March 23rd, 2014 at 10:25 pm ET
    By ENENews

Kevin Kamps, Radioactive Waste Specialist at Beyond Nuclear, Mar. 18, 2014: [...] now the scientific models are showing the liquid plume in the ocean reaching the shores of North America [...] this is an unprecedented radioactive catastrophe for the world’s oceans. [...] contact every level of representative government that we have and if you live on the west coast, that would certainly include your local and state governments. But the federal government is supposed to be taking care of this matter on behalf of the American people [...] it calls for international involvement, and something to keep in mind is that these discharges did not end on March or April 2011, in fact the discharges to the ocean are a daily occurrence. We are talking 300.000 iters per day of radioactive ground water flowing into the ocean. So, this is an international catastrophe, the oceans do not belong to Japan of course, and so, yes, there should be the best minds and independent monitors sent to Fukushima to try to get the truth as to how bad this is, where [it's] going. [...] seafood contamination is a serious issue especially because of bio-concentration of radioactivity in the food chain and we sit at the top of food chain [...] testing of seafood is essential [...] that needs an urgent priority placed upon it at the federal level.

Fukushima Evacuee Gavin Allwright, Public Meeting at the UK’s House of Commons, Mar. 10, 2014 (at 8:15 in): There’s a real feeling now that Fukushima’s done. There was a very conscious decision to move airborne contamination to waterborne contamination — Pacific Ocean’s under incredible threat at the moment. Americans are now starting to reap that on their West Coast.

Caldicott: Fukushima to be pouring radioactive water into Pacific “probably for the rest of time… forever more” — “There’s simply nothing anyone can do about it” — “Nuclear industry is covering it up because they know if truth comes out it will be end of nuclear power” (AUDIO)

Published: March 24th, 2014 at 2:43 pm ET

Caravan to Midnight, the John B. Wells Program, March 2014:
    At 43:00 in

    • Dr. Helen Caldicott: There seems to be no end in sight for this dreadful catastrophe. About 300 to 400 tons of radioactive water per day are pouring into the Pacific, have been for the last 3 years, and will continue probably for the rest of time because no one can find out where the molten cores of a hundred of seethingly hot uranium are. No one can get near them because they’re so radioactive, and the water will continue to flow over them, I guess, forever more. I can’t see any other way out of it. [...] I had the same reaction as you when two days after the tsunami and earthquake occurred [...] I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach [...] there is simply nothing anyone can do about it. And people are asking me all the time what can I take, what nutrients can I take? There’s nothing you can take to remove the radioactive elements from your body once you’ve eaten them.

    At 46:15 in

    • Caldicott: We need to be depressed. People can get through depression. […] People need to be sad, they need to be depressed. They need to get moving and close down all the reactors in America. They need to start getting off their bottoms and moving away from their computers, using their democracy, educating their representatives […] taking over the state house, the congress because you own them. In the vacuum that people leave by not using their democracy in an educated fashion that the corporations step into the vacuum.

    At 50:00 in

    • Caldicott: The nuclear industry is covering it up because they know damn well that if the real truth comes out it will be the end of nuclear power.

    At 55:30 in

    • Caldicott: It’s only America that can save the planet, if you rise to your full moral and spiritual height and decide to do it. Nothing else matters, nothing else matters.

Top-rated Host of Top Talk Show Fired — Staff and higher-ups objected to me talking about Fukushima — “I mentioned Fukushima every chance I got” despite that (AUDIO)

Caravan to Midnight, the John B. Wells Program, March 2014:
    At 2:00 in

    • John B. Wells, top-rated host of the most-listened-to overnight program in history ‘Coast to Coast AM’ until January 2014: Back at the old radio program, one of the comments I used to get all the time was, ‘Oh, radiation shows are just boring, they scare people and they’re depressing and the numbers just go down.’ So, I guess they were worried about numbers, they were just worried about them going down – and they were worried about them going up in certain parts and on certain nights, but that’s all thanks to you, that has nothing to do with me, it has everything to do with you, everything to do with you.

    At 11:00

    • 4-minute review of headlines from ENENews

    At 18:00 in

    • Wells: This Fukushima thing is for real people. Despite the objections from the staff and the ‘on highs’ at Coast to Coast AM, I mentioned Fukushima every chance I got. And before it was it over with, why even the captain began talking about Fukushima. Well, we’re just a little bit late. Fukushima was almost 3 years ago and it has not improved. I used to ask over and over again, why is the world not rushing to Fukushima? I’ll tell you why, because there’s nothing they can do about it and they know it. So what we’re going to have to do is play this ball where it lays. What we’re going to have to do is we’re going to have to shut down our nuclear power plants in this country.

Radiation Alert! Northern Plains Radiation Higher Than Fukushima

On an invitation from the Great Sioux Nation and Defenders of the Black Hills, nuclear physics professor Dr. K. Keafott. Ph.D. from the University of Michigan visited the 1868 Lakota Treaty territory in the Northern Great Plains to test sites for radiation. In her report she said: “The radiation readings from abandoned open pit uranium mines that I visited with my students were higher than those in the evacuation zones around the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Charmaine White Face in her You Tube Video: ‘Uranium Mining Bill’ says that there are three thousand, two hundred and seventy two abandoned open pit uranium mines from the 1950-60?s, in the five state area of the Homeland of the Great Sioux Nation. As these pits are exposed to the air, they are a constant source of radioactive particles in dust, air and water. This constant emission of radioactive particulates has poisoned the Northern Great Plains.
Cancer mortality rates amongst native people living on reservations in South Dakota are the highest in the country. ‘Lakota are the miners canaries for the nation,” Charmaine said.

    Destruction of Sacred Sites

The Cave Hills and Slim Buttes in South Dakota are sacred to the Lakota people. There are burial grounds, fasting places and rocks covered in ancient petroglyphs and spirit writings.
The Lakota cannot use their traditional places of prayer because they are radioactive.
This year the EPA, the forest service with assistance of the state of South Dakota are implementing a cleanup plan for Riley Pass in the Custer National Forest. Strip mining to reach uranium removed up to 80 feet of radioactive overburden which was piled on the outer edges of the rim rock and just left….
The Homeland of the Great Sioux Nation has been irradiated for sixty years and only now is the EPA getting round to cleaning a handful of the thousands that remain.
    The Sacred Paha Sapa.
The Black Hills of South Dakota are the spiritual Heart of North America and sacred to Native People. Within forty miles of Mount Rushmore there is an open uranium mine and as Charmaine White Face says : ‘The wind doesn’t stop at South Dakota. All those millions of tourists at Mount Rushmore are breathing in radioactive dust and the water in the motels in Rapid City contain uranium.’
The Black Hills is a planetary power point and it has been polluted, not only by uranium, arsenic, molybdenum, thorium, and other toxic waste, but by casinos, bars, prostitution and prison camps for animals. Even more insidious is the Sandford Lab, a facility deep underground in Lead, just down the road from Deadwood. This demonic facility is harnessing the natural frequencies of the Black Hills and distorting them.

    Stonehenge and Avebury Circle.
Desecration and negative utilisation of the Earth’s power points is no accident. There is a spiritual war going on against the planet and all its creatures. The sun temple of Stonehenge, the temple of the moon at Avebury, the enigma of Silbury Hill are all found on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. Dotted around these ancient monuments is a profusion of round and long barrows. In the last one hundred years, Salisbury Plain has become heavily militarized and is the largest military training area in England. Live firing is conducted on the plain 340 days of each year, and Salisbury Plain houses one of the most evil and secret underground facilities in the world: Porton Down.
When I lived in England, we held many demonstrations against animal abuse at Porton Down, and there are numerous animal research stations not far away from the main laboratory connected by underground tunnels to the main facility. What goes on at Porton Down is satanic by design, and the frequencies of that terrible place have totally blasted and imprisoned the elemental foci of Stonehenge and Avebury, starving the Earth of the vital energies she needs.
The Black Hills in America and Salisbury Plain in England are two very important foci for the planet’s electromagnetic resonance, and both have been deliberately compromised.
The electromagnetic life of the planet is being deliberately short circuited and distorted and has been replaced with ‘electromagnetic pollution’ on all levels. Haarp, frequency weapons, cell phone and Gwen towers, and man’s fascination with electronic gadgets and gizmos will eventually destroy all life on Earth.

Inside Source: Gov’t officials are withholding Fukushima radiation data — Levels much higher than expected — Releasing numbers would “have a huge impact” — Over 2,000 millisieverts per year where residents are being encouraged to return

Published: March 25th, 2014 at 2:49 pm ET
    By ENENews

Mainichi, Mar. 25, 2014: A Cabinet Office team has delayed the release of radiation measurements from three Fukushima Prefecture municipalities, and plans to release them later with lower, recalculated results, the Mainichi learned on March 24. [...] According to one source, the original measurements were higher than expected, prompting the Cabinet Office team [...] to hold the results back over worries they would discourage residents from returning. The Mainichi has acquired documents drawn up in November last year detailing the radiation measurements and intended for release. The documents, however, were never made public. According to this and other sources, the measurements were taken in September last year in the city of Tamura’s Miyakoji district, the village of Kawauchi and the village of Iitate [...] According to an inside source, the Cabinet Office team had noticed that measurements taken with older dosimeters distributed by Fukushima Prefecture municipalities to residents showed radiation measurements much lower than those recorded by aerial surveys. The Cabinet Office team had planned to release the latest measurements [...] putting special emphasis on how low the figures were. The new results, however, were significantly higher than expected, with the largest gap coming in Kawauchi. There, the Cabinet Office team had predicted radiation doses of 1-2 millisieverts per day, but the data showed doses at between 2.6 and 6.6 millisieverts. Cabinet Office team members apparently said that the numbers would “have a huge impact” [...] and release of the results was put off. At the request of the Cabinet Office team, the JAEA and NIRS then recalculated the results by ditching the assumption that people would be outside eight hours a day [...] Under these new assumptions, a farmer was now expected to spend around six hours a day outdoors.
Atsuo Tamura, official on the Cabinet Office team: “We did not hold the results back because they were too high. We did so because it was necessary to look into whether the assumptions for residents’ lifestyle patterns matched reality.”
Shinzo Kimura, associate professor of radiation and hygiene at Dokkyo Medical University: “The assumption of eight hours a day outside, 16 hours inside is commonly used, and it is strange to change it. I can’t see it as anything but them fiddling with the numbers to make them come out as they wanted.”

PBS Reporter: “The whole world needs to pay attention” to what’s going on at Fukushima — “Magnitude of mess is actually staggering” — “We really don’t know how they’re going to clean it up” — “Reminds me of the cartoon Fantasia” (VIDEO)

PRI’s The World, Mar. 11, 2014 — PBS Newshour science reporter Miles O’Brien: The overall impression I had was what an overwhelming – the magnitude of the mess is actually staggering. [...] Each and every day 100,000 gallons of water becomes too toxic to allow to get into the sea. So Tepco is – it kind of reminds me of the cartoon Fantasia, the sorcerer’s apprentice – they’re building a tank there every other 250,000 gallon tank to capture this water and try to avoid it going into the Pacific. Unfortunately they’re not fully succeeding. [...] There really is no easy solution to start cleaning up that mess, to start capturing that fuel. […] That is a task which is very difficult. No one has built a robot that can do that kind of work under that kind of circumstances. So we really don’t know how they’re going to clean it up at this point. >> Listen to the interview here

    NBC’s Today Show
, Mar. 11, 2014 (at 5:30 in) — NBC: This story seems really important to you personally. Miles O’Brien: It is. It’s an ongoing crisis there. I think we all think it’s kind of over, but every day hundreds of thousands of gallons of water get contaminated at that site and they have to be tanked up, held there somehow — and some of it is leaking into the Pacific Ocean. The whole world needs to pay attention to this and help the Japanese as they try to clean that mess up.

Radiation Expert: 5 types of plutonium were released from WIPP; Officials not informing public — Caldicott: “I predict that facility will never be able to be used again”; Inhaling a millionth of a gram of plutonium will induce lung cancer (AUDIO)

KUNM, Mar. 24, 2014: The director of an organization that evaluated the WIPP site for over 25 years said officials aren’t doing enough to inform New Mexicans. [...] “I just can’t stress the importance of DOE being available to respond to detailed questions that people have,” [Dr. Bob Neill] said. “There’s no substitute for direct communication.” Immediately after the leak was discovered, the public should have been given a detailed explanation of what was released, said Dr. Neill, who received his degree in radiological medicine. Americium 241 and plutonium 239 were mentioned. “But there are four other radio-isotopes of plutonium, namely the 238, 240, the beta and 241,” he said. “They’re all bone-seekers. So you want to be able to report all the values—how each one may have contributed. It’s just essential.” [...] “It’s so important to answer people’s questions—and not just people in Carlsbad, but throughout the state and elsewhere,” he said. As for the leak itself, he said all of the possible causes of the failure at WIPP must be considered, and a response system should be designed accordingly.
Interview with Dr. Helen Caldicott, March 2014 (at 37:30 in): One of the repositories for very, very dangerous radioactive waste plutonium, americium, etc. has just leaked radiation all around the area in Carlsbad, New Mexico. One microgram of plutonium, a millionth of a gram of plutonium, if inhaled will induce lung cancer. It’s extraordinarily radioactive. So they thought this would be safe storing radiation in salt mines, but something happened, one of the casks blew up or part of the ceiling fell on the casks, we do not know. But I predict that that facility will never be able to be used again, it will be so contaminated.

Swiss Journalist: Marine biologists now telling me there’s been a change in radioactive material coming from Fukushima — More and more strontium being detected in samples, not just cesium — Is gov’t testing for it… is it in our food? (VIDEO)

Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan, Mar. 17, 2014 (at 59:00 in):
Journalist from Switzerland: I talked to some marine biologists a few days ago and they told me that in their samples they see a change in the mix of radionuclides. They’re saying proportionally there’s more and more strontium, not just cesium. The food checking here is purely on cesium, under the assumption there is very little else. But are the Japanese authorities actually measuring the right thing if they’re only focusing on cesium? Or are we getting in our food strontium and I don’t know what else which is simply not measured?
Yukiya Amano, IAEA: Sorry I don’t have the exact answer now. My recollection is that they are monitoring strontium, but the sea monitoring by various agencies in Japan, I do not know. I can’t give you an exact answer which Japanese agencies are monitoring strontium and if they do, in which depth and width. I do not want to mislead you. Sorry I don’t have the exact answer for now.
Journalist: Do you recommend doing it?
Amano: We are recommending the Japanese authority to follow the standard set by the IAEA […] but to be honest I do not know exact facts about this strontium monitoring for now.

So simple, yet so many people cling to their version of normalcy and continue eating seafood.
    Biomagnification, people.
For the rest of us, hope you are all taking nutritional precautions other than just avoiding fish. Take calcium to prevent strontium from getting into your bones, potassium for cesium.
Remember also that because there were airborne releases, and seawater prevents some uptake of cesium in fish (potassium in the water prevents some uptake), freshwater fish may actually be more contaminated with cesium than ocean fish.
Now that a bazillion bq of cesium has been released into the Pacific Ocean, I'm not confident that will remain the case, but best to avoid eating fish in general.
