Woman Who Confronted Jeff Flake in Elevator Leads Soros-Funded Activist Group

    USA Today/YouTube
    1 Oct 2018
NEW YORK — Ana Maria Archila, one of the two women who confronted Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake in an elevator on Friday, helps lead a progressive organization funded by billionaire George Soros that heads an $80 million activist effort characterized as part of the anti-Trump “resistance” movement.

Archila and a second woman, 23-year-old Maria Gallagher, both said that they survived sexual assault when they challenged Flake as he entered an elevator prior to his Senate Judiciary Committee vote on whether to approve the nomination of President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

Ultimately, Flake prompted a new FBI investigation into Kavanaugh as a condition for moving forward with the nomination. When asked whether the elevator confrontation contributed to his decision, Flake told the Atlantic that the moment had been “poignant” for him and “it certainly struck a chord.”

Flake credited his decision mostly to what he said was his desire to preserve the Supreme Court. “I don’t know if there was any one thing, but I was just unsettled,” he added.

Outside the elevator on Friday, Archila yelled at the senator: “What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court.”

“This is not tolerable,” she added. “You have children in your family. Think about them.”

Archila is not just an ordinary concerned citizen. She is a professional activist. She serves as co-executive director at the Soros-funded Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) and maintains the same position as the group’s activist arm, the Center for Popular Democracy Action.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, Archila penned a piece posted on the CPD’s website taking credit for actions that left Flake “visibly shaken:”

    She wrote:

Just a few hours ago, a courageous young woman and I confronted Senator Jeff Flake on an elevator about his statement that he would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. In a now-viral video, Flake could not even look us in the eyes when we shared with him our experiences of sexual assault. He would not make eye contact with me when I asked him to think about my children, and his own children.

Shortly after, CNN reported that Flake was visibly shaken after his encounter with us. Our words, and the words of thousands of women who have shared their stories, moved him. Within hours, the senator announced he would seek an investigation from the FBI into Dr. Ford’s accusations of sexual assault by Brett Kavanaugh, delaying the Senate’s confirmation vote.

CPD is highly involved in anti-Trump activism. In May 2017, CNN reported that the Center for Popular Democracy Action fund unveiled an “$80 million effort to coordinate the work of dozens of smaller progressive groups from around the country” as part of what the news network characterized as the anti-Trump “resistance” movement. Just as she does with the parent group, Archila serves as co-executive director at the Center for Popular Democracy Action Fund.

Since it is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit political organization, the CPD action fund is not required to publicly release its donor list. However, the fund and its associated main group, Archila’s Center for Popular Democracy, both have been financed by Soros, as the Free Beacon reported.

In October 2014, literature that was part of a CPD event listed Soros’s Open Society Foundations as one of CPD’s “three biggest funders.” The Foundations provided the CPD with $130,000 in 2014 and $1,164,500 in 2015, tax documents show.

In 2016, Soros’s Open Society Policy Center provided $705,000 to the Center for Popular Democracy’s Action Fund.

CPD’s agenda items run the gamut of general national progressive politics, including “Racial Justice,” “Combating Wage Theft,” “Organizing for Climate Justice,” “Organizing for Education Justice,” “Immigrant Rights,” “Wall Street Accountability” and “Voting Rights.”

The CPD and the Make the Road New York immigrant activist group, which has also been led by Archila, partnered last April to form another anti-Trump activist outfit calling itself Corporate Backers of Hate. That Corporate group aims to “name and shame” any companies they claim are either working with Trump or making money from what the group claims is Trump’s “anti-immigrant, anti-worker” agenda.

The anti-Trump Corporate group’s website is set up for activists to send messages to the CEOs and board members of nine major companies, including IBM, Disney, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Goldman Sachs.

“We are convinced they have the capacity to move the Trump Administration,” Archila told Time magazine of the project last year. “And to the extent that they are quietly placating the behavior of this White House, they are just as complicit as Ivanka Trump.”

Writing at National Review, John Fund documented Archila’s ties to the CPD and also noted she is a national committee member of the Working Families Party, which has long had close links to the now-defunct, controversial ACORN.

Fund criticized the media for failing to detail Archila’s activism beyond cursory mention of her group:

I have no doubt that the vast majority of protesters who want to stop Brett Kavanaugh are sincere and are merely exercising their constitutional rights. But imagine if two women had cornered a Democratic senator in an elevator and demanded an investigation of who had leaked to the media Christine Blasey Ford’s letter alleging that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her. (Senator Lindsey Graham said today that he planned to investigate the leak.) There would have been sputtering outrage in media circles, and reporters would have breathlessly hunted down any ties between the women and outside groups.

It’s a sign of media bias that the people from the well-funded groups behind the anti-Kavanaugh protests are described merely as “activists” and that their political motives and origins are largely unexplored.

Progressives are targeting nine corporations who they say can profit from Trump's policies

The groups leading a campaign targeting corporations that may benefit from Trump administration policies have received millions from liberal billionaire George Soros.

The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), a New York-based nonprofit consisting of old chapters of the controversial and now-defunct Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and Make the Road New York (MRNY), a group whose 19,000 dues-paying members are primarily Latino immigrants, have partnered to "name and shame" companies the groups say are working with Trump or "profiting" from his "anti-immigrant, anti-worker" platform, Time magazine first reported.

The campaign, known as "Corporate Backers of Hate," targets nine companies: JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Boeing, Disney, IBM, BlackRock, Uber, and Blackstone.

Individuals from the groups researched the personal email address of every CEO and board member included in the list of targeted companies to allow activists to bypass lower channels and send emails directly to the top. Corporate responsibility experts told Time that the "mass lobbying" campaign is unprecedented and that they had never heard of these tactics being employed in the past.

Organizers say the targeted companies could benefit from Trump's stricter immigration policies due to their ties to immigrant detention companies and private prisons.

Time‘s piece describes the Center for Popular Democracy and Make the Road New York as having "partnered" for the campaign. However, the groups' leadership and flow of funds show that their connections go beyond a mere campaign partnership.

Andrew Friedman, a co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, co-founded Make the Road New York in 1997. Friedman spent 15 years building up that organization before moving to the Center for Popular Democracy. Friedman currently serves on the board of Make the Road and Make the Road Action Fund.

Ana Maria Archila, also co-executive director at the Center for Popular Democracy, served as co-executive director of Make the Road before joining the Center for Popular Democracy.

Javier Valdes, the co-executive director of Make the Road, is the board chair of the Center for Popular Democracy.

George Soros is one of the largest funders to the CPD. Soros provided the CPD with $130,000 from the Foundation to Promote Open Society in 2014 and $1,164,500 in 2015. Soros provided an additional $705,000 from the Open Society Policy Center in 2016.

Make the Road published a list of its grantors in 2010 that showed they received funds from Soros' Open Society Foundations. The following year, the group's annual report showed that they received up to $700,000 from the Open Society Foundations.

Marbre Stahly-Butts, a policy advocate at CPD, joined the group as a George Soros Justice Fellow in 2013.

Hundreds of thousands in funds have also been passed between the two organizations.

Make the Road gave a $122,112 grant to the Center for Popular Democracy in 2013. The group passed $25,000 to the CPD in 2014.

In 2014, the CPD gave a $100,000 grant to the Make the Road Action Fund and a $253,900 cash grant was given to MRNY. The CPD gave a $286,042 grant to MRNY in 2015. Make the Road has also received millions in government grants.

Recent pressure campaigns from progressive groups have proven to be successful.

Make the Road was reported to have organized the "spontaneous" protests at New York's JFK airport and other airports across the country after President Trump announced the Muslim travel ban. The protests, however, had been planned since the day after the presidential election, the Daily Beastreported.

The outrage led to progressives zeroing in on Uber, which had continued to pick up passengers from the airport. The #DeleteUber campaign led to thousands of users deleting the app. Uber's CEO, Travis Kalanick, stepped down from Trump's advisory council after mounting pressure.

The #GrabYourWallet campaign targeting retailers who carry Trump-family products was successful in getting Nordstrom to pull Ivanka Trump's products. The store claimed it dropped her brand due to declining sales.
The Center for Popular Democracy and Make the Road did not return requests for comment on their operations and funding by press time.

Soros is a naturalized (paid for the privilege?) citizen. Interesting..

Can Your U.S. Citizenship Be Revoked?

Although rare, it is possible for a naturalized U.S. citizen to have his or her citizenship stripped through a process called "denaturalization." Former citizens who are denaturalized are subject to removal (deportation) from the United States. Natural-born U.S. citizens may not have their citizenship revoked against their will, but may choose to renounce their citizenship on their own.

This article covers the grounds for having one's citizenship revoked, the basics of the denaturalization process, and defenses to denaturalization.

    Grounds for Denaturalization

    1. Falsification or Concealment of Relevant Facts: You must be absolutely truthful when filling out paperwork and answering interview questions related to the naturalization application process. Even if the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) fails to recognize any lies or ommissions at first, the agency may file a denaturalization action against you after citizenship has been granted. Examples include failure to disclose criminal activities or lying about one's real name or identity.
    2. Refusal to Testify Before Congress: You may not refuse to testify before a U.S. congressional committee whose job it is to investigate your alleged involvement in subversive acts, such as those intended to harm U.S. officials or overthrow the U.S. government. This requirement to testify in order to maintain citizenship status expires after 10 years.
    3. Membership in Subversive Groups: Your citizenship may be revoked if the U.S. government can prove that you joined a subversive organization within five years of becoming a naturalized citizen. Membership in such organizations is considered a violation of the oath of U.S. allegiance. Examples include the Nazi Party and Al Qaeda.
    4. Dishonorable Military Discharge: Since you may become a naturalized U.S. citizen by virtue of serving in the U.S. military, your citizenship may be revoked if you are dishonorably discharged before serving five years. Reasons for dishonorable discharge, which must follow a general court-martial, include desertion and sexual assault.

    The Denaturalization Process

Denaturalization, in which a naturalized citizen is stripped of his or her citizenship, is a process that occurs in federal court (typically in the district court where the defendant last resided) and follows the standard rules of federal civil court cases. As such, it is not an immigration case even though it affects immigration status.

Naturalized citizens found to be in violation of the terms of citizenship must leave the country. Children granted citizenship based on their parent's status may also lose their citizenship after that parent has been denaturalized.

As with any other civil case, the denaturalization process begins with a formal complaint against the defendant, who may respond to the complaint and defend himself or herself at trial (or hire an immigration attorney). The defendant has 60 days to file an answer to the complaint, where he or she may claim the action is based on wrong information or that the statute of limitations has expired, for example.

The U.S. government has a high bar for proving a defendant meets the criteria for denaturalization (a heavier burden of proof than most civil cases, but not as great a burden as criminal cases), according to the USCIS Adjudicator's Field Manual:

"Because citizenship is such a precious right, it cannot be taken away unless the government is able to meet a high burden of proof... Accordingly, a case should only be referred for denaturalization where there is objective evidence to establish that the individual was not eligible for naturalization, or procured naturalization by willful concealment or material misrepresentation."

If your U.S. citizenship is revoked, you may be deported soon after the verdict is issued.

    Appeals & Defenses

As with other types of court cases, individuals whose citizenship is revoked may appeal the decision if there is reason to believe the lower court made legal errors. Also, those facing denaturalization are not considered to be "concealing" relevant facts if there was no inquiry about them or if there is a lack of evidence pointing to an intentional concealment of relevant facts.

For example, a naturalized citizen belonging to the Communist Party was asked if he belonged to any organization advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government, answering "no." Unless there is sufficient evidence that this person knew the Communist Party engaged in such activities, he did not conceal any relevant facts. However, failure to mention an association with Al Qaeda (or any other terrorist organization) is considered concealment of relevant information.

4 Issues That Will Affect Your U.S. Citizenship Application

Applications for U.S. citizenship (or naturalization) can be denied for a variety of reasons. While the naturalization process can be long and confusing, it is helpful if green card holders seeking citizenship are aware of the following four common application issues and how U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) addresses them.

    1. Taxes
If USCIS discovers that an applicant owes back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), his or her application for citizenship will likely be denied. However, tax issues are not an automatic bar to naturalization. Applicants who can show that they're making an effort to resolve their tax issues (for example, by enrolling in an IRS payment plan) may still be eligible for naturalization. USCIS has discretion when making this decision and considers whether the applicant entered into a payment plan voluntarily and then made an effort to become current. As a result, it's a good idea to contact the IRS and work to resolve any tax issues that you might have as soon as possible.

    2. Child Support
Parent applicants are required to prove that they financially support their minor children who do not live with them. If a court has ordered an applicant to pay child support, then the applicant must provide evidence showing that he or she is in compliance with that order. Applicants who are delinquent with their child support payments may be denied citizenship, however, owing back child support isn't an automatic bar to naturalization. If the applicant willfully failed to support any dependents, then his or her application for citizenship will be denied. On the other hand, parent applicants who can provide a reasonable explanation as to why they are behind on their child support payments may still be able to naturalize.

    3. Selective Service

In order to be eligible for naturalization, applicants must be willing to support and defend the United States and the Constitution. One way in which applicants show their dedication is to register with the Selective Service System, if required to do so. Male green card holders who are 18 to 25 years old are required to register and must provide their Selective Service Number along with their application for citizenship. If you're required to register and have not done so, register at a U.S. Post Office or on the Selective Service System's website. If you were required to register but failed to do so before you turned 26, you must fill out and submit the Selective Service System's Request for Status Information Letter, and then submit your statute information letter to USCIS.
Can't find your Selective Service number? Call 1-847-688-6888.

    4. Good Moral Character
Applicants for naturalization must also demonstrate that he or she is a person of good moral character (GMC). Some moral character issues permanently bar the applicant from being eligible for citizenship, while others act only as a temporary bar. USCIS mostly looks at the applicant's conduct during the five years before applying for citizenship; however, earlier conduct can also be considered.

To determine whether an applicant has good moral character, USCIS runs a criminal background check and attempts to determine if the applicant has lied during the naturalization process:

    • Criminal Record: Applicants who have been convicted of certain crimes (e.g. murder or any other aggravated felony) are barred (or ineligible) for citizenship. However, other crimes prevent the offender from qualifying for naturalization for a specified period of time after committing the offense.
    • Lying: Applicants who are caught lying on their naturalization application, or during their naturalization interview, will be denied citizenship (or if the applicant has already naturalized, their citizenship may be taken away).

The term "good moral character" is fairly broad and USCIS has also provided the following examples of other issues that might demonstrate a lack of good moral character:

    • Any crime against a person with intent to harm
    • Any crime against property of the Government that involves fraud or an evil intent
    • Two or more crimes for which the aggregate sentence was five years or more
    • Violating any controlled substance law
    • Habitual drunkenness
    • Illegal gambling
    • Prostitution
    • Polygamy
    • Lying to gain immigration benefits
    • Failing to pay court-ordered child support or alimony payments
    • Imprisonment for 180 days or more during the past five years
    • Failing to complete any probation, parole, or suspended sentence
    • Terrorist acts, or
    • Persecution of anyone because of race, religion, national origin, political opinion, or social group

He has admitted assisting and profited by selling their belongings. Did he disclose this on his citizenship application?

Hungary passes 'STOP Soros' laws, defying EU and rights groups

Two soldiers stand in front of the Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest Thomson Reuters

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungary's parliament on Wednesday approved a package of bills that criminalizes some help given to illegal immigrants, defying the European Union and human rights groups and narrowing the scope for action by non-governmental organizations (NGOs).Under the law, officially called "STOP Soros", individuals or groups who help migrants not entitled to protection to submit requests for asylum or who help illegal migrants gain status to stay in Hungary will be liable to prison terms.

Parliament, where Prime Minister Viktor Orban's right-wing Fidesz party has a two-thirds majority, also passed a constitutional amendment to state that an "alien population" cannot be settled in Hungary.

Orban's party was re-elected by a landslide in April after a campaign attacking U.S. billionaire George Soros and liberal NGOs he supports. Orban accuses Soros of encouraging mass immigration in order to undermine Europe, a charge Soros denies.

Orban has led eastern European opposition to European Union quotas to distribute migrants around the bloc.

Two leading European rights bodies, the Council of Europe and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), have criticized Hungary's new law as "arbitrary" and vague and said it contravenes European law.

The Venice Commission, an expert body at the Council of Europe, had asked Hungary to refrain from approving the new law until a report it co-authored with the OSCE is published.

No surprise that George Soros is involved. No surprise immigrant rights groups are involved. Soros is a troublemaker across the world, handing out millions to destroy.

Republicans need to get up to speed on these in your face confrontations. Stop being naive or using them to cover for their weakness.

The activists and radical protestors at times look like paid actors. They have their choreographed scripts, their shout their emotional hit lines, they stalk, they have their signs at hand, and they know exactly where to go to find people to confront.

They like to video their staged attacks to spur others on to do the same. Senator McConnell could have fallen when he was squeezed to the side in the airport.
