link to politicians term limits
Apparently the attack on term limits is still alive and well. This looks like a good lik to keep up to date on this! We MUST not allow these criminals to stay in office!!!

REPEAL 22ND AMENDMENT TO U.S. CONSTITUTION
Apparently Clinton brought this up a while back. Who is this windbag Senator Hoyer? This issue must be followed closely even though it appears nothing has been passed YET!
REPEAL 22ND AMENDMENT TO U.S. CONSTITUTION -- (Extensions of Remarks - February 18, 2005)
[Page: E302] GPO's PDF
---
SPEECH OF
HON. STENY H. HOYER
OF MARYLAND
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2005
* Mr. HOYER. Mr. Speaker, I am introducing today a joint resolution to repeal outright the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. The 22nd Amendment requires that no person who has served two terms or has served two years of another President's term be permitted to serve another term of office.
* The time has come to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, and not because of partisan politics. While I am not a
[Page: E303] GPO's PDF
supporter of the current President, I feel there are good public policy reasons for a repeal of this amendment. Under the Constitution as altered by the 22nd Amendment, this must be President George W. Bush's last term even if the American people should want him to continue in office. This is an undemocratic result.
* Under the resolution I offer today, President Bush would not be eligible to run for a third term. However, the American people would have restored to themselves and future generations an essential democratic privilege to elect who they choose in the future.
* A limitation on the terms that a President could serve was not fully discussed by the Founding Fathers. However, Alexander Hamilton, in Federalist Paper 72, recognized that one important benefit of not having term limits on the President would be:
* We do not have to rely on rigid constitutional standards to hold our Presidents accountable. Sufficient power resides in the Congress and the Judiciary to protect our country from tyranny. As the noted attorney and counsel to Presidents, Clark Clifford, said:
I believe we denigrate ourselves as an enlightened people, and our political process as a whole, in imposing on ourselves still further disability to retain tested and trusted leadership. The Congress and the Judiciary are now and will remain free to utilize their own countervailing constitutional power to forestall any executive overreaching.Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God

I would love nothing better than to see Senate and House term limits. It is part of the Constitution Party's platform, I believe. We ought to hammer away at this in our "spare time."

Term limits, absolutely....term limits should be enforced on any elected person. I don't want to see any more Ted Kennedy's...he's been a senator for so long that he's forgotten what it's like to be a citizen...and there are many more examples of this...
Two terms would be plenty.

unlimited terms
lead to dictatorship be it the President, congressmen or senators. To clarify what I said about PAC's being outlawed (thanks Juniusjnr) I was talking about all these lobbyest that give money to politicians thus buying our government. GET RID OF ALL LOBBYEST and then maybe we can get our government back. Money talks, take away their money so they can do what they were lected to do. Represent US!

Yes Get Rid of the Lobbyists. I hardly see how that can be legal...I mean..it's theft...they're stealing out government.

No doubt some of the old timers believe that government is for sale and they pass on the practice to new people. We need to make sure we vote out every single one of the losers we can in 2006 and then come back after the rest of them in 2008.
