As Congress debates climate legislation, one conservative lawmaker from Tennessee is questioning Al Gore's motives.





Gore was recently asked to testify before Congress concerning the pending carbon cap-and-trade bill. U.S. lawmakers are seeking to pass legislation that would limit the amount of carbon emissions from businesses and power plants in an effort to curb so-called "manmade climate change." Gore has been a longtime proponent of such legislation.

During the hearing, Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) had this exchange with the former vice president.

Blackburn: "Is the legislation that we are discussing here today, is that something that you are going to personally benefit from?"

Gore: "If you believe that the reason I have been working on this issue for 30 years is because of greed, you don't know me. I've been willing to put my money where my mouth is. Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?"

Blackburn: "I am simply asking for clarification of the relationship."

Gore: "I'm proud of it."

A shortened version of the four-minute exchange was aired on the Fox News program O'Reilly Factor. In a longer version, Gore admits that he gives every penny he makes from the climate issue to a nonprofit group. Marc Morano of ClimateDepot.com says while that is true, a vital piece of information is missing.

"Al Gore's answer to her is [that] he gives every penny he makes into his nonprofit Alliance for Climate Protection," Morano explains. "The problem is, he is the founding member and the chair of that group. So essentially he's telling the people that he gives the money to himself."

Critics of Al Gore and cap-and-trade have accused the former VP of wanting to become the first "carbon billionaire." Since leaving the political scene, says Morano, Gore has gone from a worth of $2 million to $100 million.

From $2M to $100M since leaving politics. Makes one wonder why a man would go into politics to begin with if there is so much money to be made in the private sector by such brilliant men.

Gore is an idiot. He wouldn't be behind this if he wasn't in it for a buck. Don't see him living the life of Earth protection. He's not different that those selling Stars for a profit. He's selling something that isn't his to sell.

If more people could benefit directly from immigration enforcement more people would be lobbying for it. I wish I knew how to bring that about most people oppose illegal immigration but spend no time fighting it.
