    Maryland Focus Campaign

    Maryland

Mission: Encourage the House of Delegates Ways and Means Committee to oppose House Bill 1236 a bill that will give certain illegal aliens in-state tuition rates.

Encourage the House Judiciary Committee to pass HB288 a bill that requirs legal presence in the US to receive a MD driver's license. A hearing is scheduled for March 19 in the Judiciary Committee.

Encourage passage of "HB 604 -- A bill to require people to prove lawful presence to receive public benefits from state, county or municipalities, excluding some emergency health and safety benefits. A hearing is scheduled for March 4 in the Appropriations Committee."

Encourage the passage of - "HB 886--A bill to declare English the official language of Maryland, requiring all government documents and official government meetings to be conducted in English. A hearing is scheduled for March 12 in the Health and Government Operations Committee."

Discourage the passage of HB 1236 -- "A bill that allows undocumented immigrants who have who have attended a Maryland high school for two years, graduated from a high school, shown proof of having paid taxes, and have applied for a permanent resident visa, to pay in-state tuition rates for Maryland schools. A hearing for this bill is scheduled for March 4 in the Ways and Means Committee."

Task: Call and E-mail all members of the House of Delegates and House Judiciary Committee

    Message Example (craft your own)

Subject line: House Bill 1236 In-state Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

    To the Honorable Delegate __________,

I'm writing / calling to ask Delegates ____ to oppose House Bill 1236. We need the State of Maryland to protect citizens by discouraging illegal immigration by opposing HB 1236, which will give in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens. Reduced tuition rates for international students deprives the colleges and universities of revenue for legitimate students which pay the full rate. Also, students that are unqualified for the in-state tuition rate will be taking limited enrollment positions away from qualified citizens and legal residents. Maryland must discourage illegal immigration by refusing to offer benefits for illegal deeds and thereby doing what those in DC refuse to do. Maryland must take action to protect citizens from the negative impacts of crimes like illegal immigration and all of the associated criminal activity.

Subject line: HB 288 Drivers Licnese Legal Presence

    To the Honorable Delegate __________,

I'm writing / calling to ask Delegates/Committee Member _______ to please support HB288 which "would require proof of legal presence to get a Maryland driver’s license. We need the State of Maryland to enforce immigration laws that they refuse to enforce in DC. Please approve the bill, which would make it difficult for illegal aliens to obtain a Maine Drivers License because it will protect Americans from the negative impacts of crimes like illegal immigration and all of the associated criminal activity.

Subject Line: - "HB 886 English the Official Language of Maryland

Subject Line: HB 1236 In-state Tuition for Illlegal Immigrants

    To the Honorable Delegate __________,

Please use the above examples for letters to Maryland Delegates regarding th bills HB1236 and HB 886.

MD -- PLEASE VOTE MITT ROMNEY!

    Dear Maryland voters,

I'm asking that you vote for Gov. Mitt Romney in the upcoming MD primary. He is our LAST HOPE for stopping amnesty for 30 million illegals in the US! He was my former gov. of Mass. and did an excellent job of honoring every campaign promise: he eliminated the $3 BILION DEFICIT created by the Democrats, all while never raising taxes. He OPPOSED ALL BENEFITS/AMNESTY for ILLEGALS: no driver's lic's, no instate tuition, insisted on English immersion in the classrooms (imagine that!), and was tough on criminals (no pardons while governor), and he signed an order that allowed the Mass. State Police to detain arrested illegal aliens, starting deportation hearings. Romney's successor, Democrat Deval Patrick (who literally lived around the corner from me in Milton MA, yet I never saw him once in 10 years!), immediately rescinded that order as soon as he took office.

Why people are voting for MCCAIN and HUCKABEE is beyond me. They both have RECORDS of being PRO ILLEGALS and PRO AMNESTY! Please check out Gov. Romney: www.mittromney.com He is a very decent and honorable man with integrity, which is such a rare thing in a politician. McCain and Huckster have been playing dirty politics. Is the best we can expect to get?!? If we listen to the lamestream media and DC political machine -- yes. We have a chance to vote for REAL CHANGE -- MITT ROMNEY! Thank you.

p.s. PLEASE CHECK ALL THE CANDIDATE'S RECORDS FOR YOURSELF. THE FACTS DON'T LIE! And, past behavior is usually a predictor of FUTURE BEHAVIOR, so don't buy the lies being fed to you by McCain and Huckabee (and Clinton and Obama)!

Students, lawmakers face off over in-state tuition

    BALTIMORE -
The battle over whether illegal immigrants should receive in-state tuition at Maryland’s public universities raged Thursday, as foreign students squared off against lawmakers who say only native-born students deserve the discounted tuition.

    Maryland Delgate response

    with info repposition

Thank you for writing. Delegate George agrees with you, and as a
    member
of the committee hearing this bill, you can rest assured he will fight
this for the reasons you have stated. Though it has 41 co-sponsors, we
have heard due to the active lobbying against it by those such as
yourself, the bill "will not go anywhere" this session. But this bill
has been around since 2002 so it will most likely return next year.
Voters need to act accordingly at election time in Nov. 09.

ALSO, Delegate George's House Bill 288 - requiring legal presence in
    the
US to receive a MD driver's license (we are only one of 5 states left
that allow illegals to receive a state driver's license (Wash, New
Mexico, Maine and Hawaii being the others) will be heard March 19 in
    the
House Judiciary Committee starting at 1pm. We have 58 co-sponsors, but
the chairman of the committee, Joe Vallario, is against it as are other
members of that committee, so it is a tough sell, but your voice is
needed. CASA, Legal Aid Bureau, Public Justice Center, Assoc of
Immigration Attys, Cath Church, Luth Church, Unitarian Church and
    others
all come out in favor of illegal alien benefits.

Members of the Judiciary Committee, as well as how to contact them, can
be found on the General Assembly website: www.mlis.state.md.us. If
you can come in person to testify, you need to sign up by 12:00pm. Any
written testimony needs to be delivered 1 hr prior. If you want me to
sign you up, or deliver written testimony let me know. If you just
    want
to come for support, Ron can ask for those present in support to stand,
just let us know. We are not against legal immigrants, but MD has
become a sanctuary state for illegals and we cannot bear the burden in
hospitals, schools and roads. MVA reports they are processing 1700
out-of-state driver's license application PER WEEK (they actually
receive up to 5000/wk but can't process more than 2000/wk). This
    number
has dramatically risen in the past years as other states tighten up
    illegal immigrant regulations.

Thank you very much for letting us know you care about this important
issue, and for any support you can give.

    Best Regards,

You can not use our limited resources to reward invaders at the expense
of our law enforcement and citizen students. Your first obligation is
    to
Citizens. What a sorry state of affairs when Citizens have to remind
elected officials for whom they work.
