    Missouri Focus Campaign

    Missouri

Mission: Get bill HB1736 out of the House Immigration Committee. It would apply to all new employees hired after Jan. 1, 2009 to be checked against the E-Verify system for eligibility.

Repremand House Speaker Rod Jetton who said he would "trade some of our people [Americans] for some of the Mexicans who work so hard." and "if we can find a way to trade them, I would trade them in a heartbeat,"

4/1/08 Senate bill going to floor for vote on 4/2 that will "require police to check immigration status when they arrest someone, block many illegal immigrants from attending public colleges and withhold state money from cities with policies not to cooperate with immigration authorities. "

    Task: Call and E-mail Senators

    Message Example (craft your own)

Subject line: SB 858 et al Immigration Bill

    To the Honorable Senator,

I'm writing / calling Senator _______ to ask you to vote for SB 858 on April 2nd.

Task: Call and E-mail House Speaker Rod Jetton

    Message Example (craft your own)

    Subject line:

To the Honorable House Speaker Rod Jetton

I'm writing / calling House Speaker, Rod Jetton because of your recent comments comparing the work ethic of illegal aliens to lazy Missourians. You said, that you would "trade some of our people [Americans] for some of the Mexicans who work so hard." and "if we can find a way to trade them, I would trade them in a heartbeat." Speaker Jetton, you are to protect, represent and serve Missourians and not push them aside for foreign nationals. You should be protecting the employment opportunities of Missourians against unfair competition and they should be paid a prevailing wage.

Subject line: HB1736 Federal E-Verify Program

    To the Honorable Representative

I'm writing / calling to ask Representative _________ to require HB1736 out of the House Immigration Committee. It would apply to all new employees hired after Jan. 1, 2009 to be checked against the E-Verify system for eligibility. This is necessary to prevent illegal immigrants from working. Missourians deserve to have their jobs protected from unfair competition that will settle for a below average wage. Missouri must take action with companies that unscrupulously hire illegal aliens, if we are to protect Americans from the negative impacts of crimes like illegal immigration and all of the associated criminal activity. Missouri must create laws because those in DC refuse to enforce existing immigration laws.

    Immigration proposals
    IN MISSOURI

Sen. Scott Rupp’s Senate Republican plan:

    1) Fine employers that knowingly employ illegal immigrants on projects using state funds and ban them from further state-funded projects.

    2) Bar illegal immigrants from attending state universities.

    3) Require officials from every public university to certify that their campuses had not knowingly admitted illegal immigrants.

    4) Require applicants for state benefits to provide proof of citizenship, residency or lawful presence.

Rep. Charles Portwood’s Republican House plan:

    1) Criminalize the transport or concealment of illegal immigrants.

    2) Require law enforcement to determine the citizenship status of anyone charged with a felony, driving while intoxicated, or driving with excessive blood alcohol content.

    3) Require all public employers to participate in the federal immigrant status verification system.

    4) Require public benefit providers to verify the legal status of applicants before granting benefits.

    5) Prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving college scholarships, financial aid or resident tuition.

    Also:

    1) Sen. Jason Crowell’s bill would prevent illegal immigrants from getting Missouri driver’s licenses. The state won’t honor such licenses from other states.

    2) Rep. Gary Dusenberg’s bill would prohibit cities from enacting “sanctuary policies

Work ethic of Missourians in question

Honorable "saying that loosely" House Speaker Rod Jetton

You sir, are the very bottom of the barell. How dare you make a statement, demeaning the Missourians (born Americans) work ethic. If you are so motivated by the work ethic of "law breaking" illegal immagrents, from any country, why don't you pick one out, that you like the best, exercise your FREEDOM, pack your rags and move. Honest, law abiding, American citizens will not miss you. Just maybe, I say, just maybe, you will be lucky enough to get you another job, where you can "suck" off the tax dollars of the "honest," hard working Missourians.
You call yourself a representative of and for the pople??

Missouri Senate passes immigration bill on voice vote; one more vote will send it to House

    By JASON NOBLE
    The Star’s Jefferson City correspondent
JEFFERSON CITY | A wide-ranging illegal-immigration bill glided through the Missouri Senate on Tuesday with surprisingly little debate.

To reach Jason Noble, call 573-634-3565 or send e-mail to jnoble@kcstar.com.
    http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics ... 57021.html

Summary: Most important parts of bill

    • Employment: The bill requires employers working on state contracts or receiving state grants, loans or tax credits to check all employees against a federal database of legal workers.

    • Public benefits: The bill denies access to public benefits — such as welfare, food stamps or college scholarships — to illegal immigrants and requires all applicants over the age of 18 to provide proof of legal residence.

    • Higher education: Illegal immigrants would be barred from attending public universities and junior colleges in the state.

    • Law enforcement: The bill requires law enforcement agencies to verify the residency status of people who are arrested.

Missouri Senate approves added restrictions on illegal immigrants

    by The Associated Press

Story Updated: Apr 3, 2008 at 4:29 PM CDT

    By Gene Hartley

    JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.
-- The Senate approved a measure that would place new restrictions on illegal immigrants.
Illegal immigration has been a hot-button issue but Senate debate was relaxed, with much of the discussion explaining what the wide-ranging bill does rather than debating its merits. Senators passed the bill 26-7 and sent it to the House.

The bill combines many proposals. Police would need to check immigration status after arrests; illegal immigrants couldn't get public benefits, such as aid for food, housing or retirement; and cities that don't cooperate with immigration authorities could lose state money.

Sen. Jeff Smith, D-St. Louis, was one of seven to vote against it. He says immigrants can help the state economy and the legislation tells them they're unwelcome.

    Update 4/4/08

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri State Senate passed a bill today that would limit the freedoms of illegal aliens residing in Missouri.
The bill's next step is the Missouri House of Representatives, which has a history of passing bills restricting the rights of illegal aliens.

Illegal aliens would be ineligible for any state or local public benefits

The bill would require businesses receiving more than 5,000 dollars in state funding to affirm periodically their participation in the Federal Work Authorization Program, a program designed to electronically verify information of newly hired employees

The proposed bill would also make it possible to fine employers who don't submit requested employee information.

The Missouri State Senate also weighed in on the debate over driver's license eligibility for illegal immigrants. The new bill states that Missouri will not issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens, and will "not extend full faith and credit to out-of-state driver's licenses issued to illegal aliens.
