Dear Ms. (fedupDeb):
Thank you for contacting me about legislation that would make it easier for states to offer in-state college tuition to illegal aliens. I appreciate hearing from you about this issue.
Legislation has been purposed on several occasions that would make it easier for each state to decide whether or not to offer in-state tuition rates to undocumented immigrants who grew up in the U.S. This legislation is commonly known as the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act).
If this proposal became law, the Maryland legislature would have to pass legislation specifying which Maryland resident would be eligible for in-state tuition rates.
I want you to know that your views on this proposal will be very helpful to me as the Senate continues to discuss immigration reform.
Thanks again for getting in touch with me. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you in the future.
Sincerely,
Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator
