Uncle Sam's Misguided Children
One of the statements I noticed yesterday concerning survivalist prepping was concerning storage of food bought in bulk. The person that commented stated how expensive it is to buy all of these storage containers. It is less expensive than you think. Do you realize how many storage containers you purchase when you go to the grocery store? You would be surprised.
We wash out plastic soda bottles, plastic milk jugs, any food storage with plastic twist cap (Examples Chips, pretzels, etc.), plastic juice bottles (example Welch's, Ocean Spray), allow to dry. Then you can fill the containers with items such as dry beans, rice, sugar, baking soda, just about any dry item you want to store. This will save you a ton of money on food storage containers. Even better storage containers are jars with screw type lids, examples include, spaghetti sauce, jellies and jams, instant coffee jars. Just wash dry, fill with your dry items and store.
Now to save money at the store, I suggest buying in bulk, use what you need and store the rest.
Now a big one!!! Plastic water bottles. Use them, wash them, dry and refill with purified water. If you do not have a water purification system, GET ONE. You have no idea how toxic the water supply is these days. Even if you can't afford a $500.00 purification system, save $20.00 and get a "ZERO WATER" container. I have tried many types and with the lesser expensive systems the "ZERO WATER" is by far the best as it has a 5 stage filter.
I would start now to build or purchase shelving for your storage or basement areas. Buying in bulk, and reusing your plastic and glass jugs and jars will save you a ton of money.
