Vitamin D and Cancer – Vitamin D Outperforms Pharmaceuticals at Treating Cancer
Mike Barrett
NaturalSociety
June 1, 2012
Everyone is deathly afraid of coming down with cancer, yet the very lifestyle that promotes cancer is the most popular. Cancer has been one of the leading causes of death in the United States, UK, and many other nations for years. Something is terribly wrong, as the war on cancer is failing miserably. The use of pharmaceutical drugs is not the answer, and the idea of prevention is seldom voiced. Luckily, making some dietary changes can reduce your cancer risk significantly. One example is showcased with research showing that a relationship between vitamin D and cancer exists; raising vitamin D levels can be more effective and much safer than dangerous pharmaceutical drugs and treatments. It costs a whole lot less as well.
Vitamin D and Cancer
Angus Dalgleish, a consultant medical oncologist residing in a city known as Tooting in south-west London, tests all of his patients for vitamin D levels and prescribes supplements for when the levels are low. Dalgleish noticed that patients at his clinic at St Georges suffering from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, almost all were vitamin D deficient. Not only does the medical oncologist prescribe vitamin D for his melanoma patients, but he also prescribes the vitamin for other patients who are stricken with other types of cancer.
“If we supplement people who are low they may do better than expected. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if vitamin D turns out to be more useful in improving outcomes in cases of early relapse than drugs costing £10,000 a year,” said Professor Dalgleish. “I spent a decade studying interferon for which the NHS paid £10,000 annually per patient for years for very little benefit. Vitamin D is much more likely to give a benefit in my view.”
Other research from the University of Leeds showed similar connections between vitamin D and cancer, specifically melanoma. Patients with the lowest vitamin D levels had the gloomiest outlook and were also 30 percent more likely to suffer from the disease in the future than those with higher vitamin D levels.
At Creighton University in Nebraska, Joan Lappe, a professor of medicine, also noticed a strong link between vitamin D and cancer. He took note of the vitamin d and cancer relationship when cancer patients who received vitamin d and calcium supplementation increased their survival rates significantly. Although the trial was originally meant to evaluate the effects of supplements on osteoporosis, this accidental finding led Lappe to examine the effects of supplements on cancer.
You May Not Be Getting the Vitamin D You Think You Are
Of course, none of this matters if you aren’t giving your body the necessary amount of vitamin D to work with. Foods fortified with vitamin d contain a synthetic, potentially harmful type of vitamin D called vitamin D2. Vitamin D2 is both inferior and could be harmful, so you may not want to search for fortified foods like milk and cereal just yet. Instead of chomping down on fortified foods, consume foods that naturally possess vitamin D such as cod liver oil, eggs, and seafood such as salmon, oysters, catfish, sardines, or shrimp. However, be careful when consuming fish, as most fish is toxic due to contaminates and chemicals residing in the water.
The best source of vitamin D is the sun, but the amount of vitamin D produced from sun exposure can vary greatly. Getting sun exposure in the summer when the rays are very strong can produce a lot of vitamin D – as much as 10,000 IU’s in just 20-30 minutes (a bit longer for dark skin). But soaking up the rays in winter months will not produce the same amount as the sun is less powerful.
One last thing to remember is to avoid using sunscreen if possible. Not only does research show that sunscreen causes cancer, but lathering on sunscreen also compromises your body’s ability to produce vitamin D from UV rays.

Living a Disease Free Life: Solutions to Daily Health Risks that Lead to Disease
Andre Evans
NaturalSociety
June 1, 2012
The modern lifestyle is oftentimes a magnet for disease and major health conditions. Our diet along with many so-called “health” products, industrial materials, lack of exercise, stress, and other factors contribute to disease. While it may seem overwhelming, a few simple changes can help you live disease free.
There are numerous sources of disease, manifesting themselves through dietary choices as well as lifestyle choices. Below is a list of problematic areas when it comes to hampering your health, and ways to remedy the issues.
A Disease Free Life: Solutions to Daily Health Hazards
Ingredients Label Surprises
- Problem: One of the most basic of ways to live disease free is to check food before you buy it. A large number of food products today contain deadly additives which are instrumental in offsetting the processes of the body. Most commercial foods typically contain harmful additives such as high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, genetically modified ingredients, and other dietary abominations. All of these have been shown to cause considerable harm to the body.
- Solution: Buy products free of additives by ensuring that they are 100% organic, and that are free of genetically modified ingredients, aspartame, MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial coloring, and other harmful ingredients.
Not So Natural
- Problem: Multi-national farming corporations are drenching produce in harmful chemicals. Fruit and vegetables have been routinely found to contain toxic levels of pesticides due to unethical farming practices. Pesticides have been linked to ADHD in children, and multiple other conditions. Millions of Americans are consuming this infected produce, which assaults the body with toxic compounds.
- Solution: Buy fruit and vegetables that are grown locally and organically. Ensure that the labels begin with the number 9, showing that they are truly organic.

Animal Products
- Problem: If you don’t want to be disease free, eat meat in America. Certain hormones are used to produce larger and meatier animals; the addition of growth hormones makes for more meat, less feed for the animal, and a host of health concerns. These hormones can offset your body’s natural balance and make you much more susceptible to disease. Hormones that have been in use include estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, zeranol, trenbolone acetate, and melengestrol acetate. Some researchers have linked these hormones with premature puberty in girls, resulting in an increased risk of breast cancer. In addition, about 29 million pounds of antibiotics, which equates to nearly 80 percent of the nation’s antibiotics total use — are added to animal feed every year in the U.S.
- Solution: Buy 100% grass-fed beef. Try and find local markets that are selling organically raised meats, and ask all of the appropriate questions. Were they grass-fed for the entire duration of their life? Some companies only grass-feed their cattle near the end of their life.
Beauty and Consumer Products
- Problem: It is unfortunate in our modern society, but you can’t live a disease free life and use mainstream consumer products. Beauty products often contain over 515 chemicals. These are potentially dangerous substances that are readily absorbed by the body upon application or even inhalation. Skin whitening cream products have also been found to contain toxic mercury. Most antibacterial soaps contain toxic triclosan. Triclosan is a known carcinogen, and even reacts with chlorinated tap water to become chloroform (a chlorinated aromatic). This substance is very similar in dioxin makeup to compound Agent Orange, the defoliant used in Vietnam that led to 400,000 deaths and disabilities.
- Solution: Buy natural beauty care products that are derivatives of healthy sources. Look for brands that flaunt a close to 100% natural label, and that never contain ingredients such as triclosan or sodium lauryl sulfate.
Toxins in Plastic Bottles
- Problem: The plastic used in many mainline products has been found to be carcinogenic, and to produce synthetic hormones that offset your body’s natural hormones significantly. Bisphenol A is present in a large number of water bottles, and is known as a gender-bender chemical. It is an artificial hormone that can act similarly in estrogen in the bodies of men, disrupting their hormonal balance and creating problems. There are actually only a few plastic types that contain Bisphenol A (BPA), but these are the types that are widely used by mainstream manufacturers.
- Solution: Buy a water filter. Tap water is thoroughly contaminated and also contains gender-bending chemicals. Purchase a high quality water filtration device and bottle your water in glass bottles.

10 Things That We Can Learn About The Economic Collapse In Greece
The Economic Collapse
Sun, 03 Jun 2012 21:50 CDT
© The Economic Collapse
When the economy of a nation collapses, almost everything changes. Unfortunately, most people have never been through anything like that, so it can be difficult to know how to prepare. For those that are busy preparing for the coming global financial collapse, there is a lot to be learned from the economic depression that is happening right now in Greece.
Essentially, what Greece is experiencing is a low level economic collapse. Unemployment is absolutely rampant and poverty is rapidly spreading, but the good news for Greece is that the global financial system is still operating somewhat normally and they are getting some financial assistance from the outside.
Things in Greece could be a whole lot worse, and they will probably get a whole lot worse before it is all said and done. But already things have gotten bad enough in Greece that it gives us an idea of what a full-blown economic collapse in the 21st century may look like. There are reports of food and medicine shortages in Greece, crime and suicides are on the rise and people have been rapidly pulling their money out of the banks.
Hopefully this article will give you some ideas that you can use as you prepare for the economic chaos that will soon be unfolding all over the globe.
The following are 10 things that we can learn about shortages and preparation from the economic collapse in Greece....
#1 Food Shortages Can Actually Happen
Most people assume that they will always be able to run out to their local supermarket or to Wal-Mart and get all of the supplies they need.
Unfortunately, that is a false assumption. The truth is that our food distribution system is extremely vulnerable.
In Greece, many people are starting to totally run out of food. Even some government institutions (such as prisons) are now reporting food shortages. The following was originally from a Greek news source....The financing for many prisons has decreased to a minimum for some months now, resulting in hundreds of detainees being malnourished and surviving on the charity of local communities.
The latest example is the prison in Corinth where after the supply stoppage from the nearby military camp, the prisoners are at the mercy of God because, as reported by prison staff, not even one grain of rice has been left in their warehouses. When a few days earlier the commander of the camp announced to the prison management the transportation stoppage, citing lack of food supplies even for the soldiers, he shut down the last source of supply for 84 prisoners. The response of some Corinth citizens was immediate as they took it upon themselves to support the prisoners, since all protests to the Justice ministry were fruitless.
#2 Medicine Is One Of The First Things That Becomes Scarce During An Economic Collapse
If you are dependent on medicine in order to survive, you might want to figure out how you are going to get by if your supply of medicine is totally cut off someday.
In Greece, medicine shortages have become a massive problem. The following is from a recent Bloomberg article....Mina Mavrou, who runs a pharmacy in a middle-class Athens suburb, spends hours each day pleading with drugmakers, wholesalers and colleagues to hunt down medicines for clients. Life-saving drugs such as Sanofi (SAN)'s blood-thinner Clexane and GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK)'s asthma inhaler Flixotide often appear as lines of crimson data on pharmacists' computer screens, meaning the products aren't in stock or that pharmacists can't order as many units as they need.
"When we see red, we want to cry," Mavrou said. "The situation is worsening day by day."
The 12,000 pharmacies that dot almost every street corner in Greek cities are the damaged capillaries of a complex system for getting treatment to patients. The Panhellenic Association of Pharmacists reports shortages of almost half the country's 500 most-used medicines. Even when drugs are available, pharmacists often must foot the bill up front, or patients simply do without.
#3 When An Economy Collapses, So Might The Power Grid
Try this some time - turn off all power to your home for 24 hours and try to live normally.
Sadly, most people simply do not understand just how dependent we are on the power grid. Without power, all of our lives would change dramatically.
In Greece, authorities are warning of an impending "collapse" of the power grid. If it goes down for an extended period of time in Greece, the consequences would be catastrophic....
Greece's power regulator RAE told Reuters on Friday it was calling an emergency meeting next week to avert a collapse of the debt-stricken country's electricity and natural gas system.#4 During An Economic Collapse You Cannot Even Take Water For Granted
"RAE is taking crisis initiatives throughout next week to avert the collapse of the natural gas and electricity system," the regulator's chief Nikos Vasilakos told Reuters.
RAE took the decision after receiving a letter from Greece's natural gas company DEPA, which threatened to cut supplies to electricity producers if they failed to settle their arrears with the company.
If the power grid goes down, you will soon no longer have clean water coming out of your faucets. That is one of the reasons why it is absolutely imperative that the power grid stay operable in Greece.
Sadly, most people don't understand just how vulnerable our water system is. In a previous article, I quoted from a report that discussed how rapidly our water supply would be in jeopardy in the event of a major transportation disruption....
According to the American Water Works Association, Americans drink more than one billion glasses of tap water per day. For safety and security reasons, most water supply plants maintain a larger inventory of supplies than the typical business. However, the amount of chemical storage varies significantly and is site specific. According to the Chlorine Institute, most water treatment facilities receive chlorine in cylinders (150 pounds and one ton cylinders) that are delivered by motor carriers. What will you do when clean water stops coming out of your faucets?
On average, trucks deliver purification chemicals to water supply plants every seven to 14 days. Without these chemicals, water cannot be purified and made safe for drinking. Without truck deliveries of purification chemicals, water supply plants will run out of drinkable water in 14 to 28 days. Once the water supply is drained, water will be deemed safe for drinking only when boiled. Lack of clean drinking water will lead to increased gastrointestinal and other illnesses, further taxing an already weakened healthcare system.
You might want to start thinking about that.
#5 During An Economic Crisis Your Credit Cards And Debit Cards May Stop Working
Most people have become very accustomed to using either debit cards or credit cards for almost everything.
But what would happen if the financial system locked up for a period of time and you were not able to use them?
This is something that the citizens of Greece are potentially facing in the coming months, and this is something that all of us need to start thinking about.
#6 Crime, Rioting And Looting Become Commonplace During An Economic Collapse
Big corporations are already making extensive plans for how to protect their stores in the event that Greece switches from the euro to the drachma.
The following is from a recent Reuters article....British electrical retailer Dixons has spent the last few weeks stockpiling security shutters to protect its nearly 100 stores across Greece in case of riot.#7 During A Financial Meltdown Many Average Citizens Will Start Bartering
The planning, says Dixons chief Sebastian James, may look alarmist but it's good to be prepared.
Company bosses around Europe agree. As the financial crisis in Greece worsens, companies are getting ready for everything from social unrest to a complete meltdown of the financial system.
During this economic depression, alternative currencies have already been popping up in Greece.
When things fall apart on a global scale, will you have things to barter for the things that you need?
#8 Suicides Spike During An Economic Collapse
When you think of the Great Depression of the 1930s, what do you think of?
Many people think of images of people jumping out of buildings.
Well, something similar has been happening in Greece. Suicide statistics in Greece have been absolutely soaring during the last couple of years.
Once prosperity disappears, many people feel as though life is not worth living anymore.
#9 Your Currency May Rapidly Lose Value During An Economic Crisis
Just remember what happened in Germany during the Weimar Republic and what has happened recently in places like Zimbabwe.
The truth is that it can happen anywhere.
Right now, Greeks are pulling their money out of the banks because they are worried that their euros will be turned into drachmas which would rapidly lose value.
If I was living in Greece I would definitely be concerned about that. The return of the drachma seems to get closer with each passing day. Just check out these screenshots.
#10 When Things Hit The Fan The Government Will Not Save You
Has the government of Greece come to the rescue of all of those that are deeply suffering right now?
Of course not. The truth is that the Greek government can barely take care of itself at the moment.
History has shown us that governments simply cannot be counted on when things hit the fan.
Just remember what happened during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In the end, the only one that can be counted on to take care of you and your family is you.
So you better start preparing.
Unfortunately, as I wrote about the other day, time is rapidly running out for the global financial system.
Even some of the top economic officials in the world are warning that another major crisis could be on the way.
Just check out what World Bank President Robert Zoellick said the other day....
"Events in Greece could trigger financial fright in Spain, Italy and across the eurozone. The summer of 2012 offers an eerie echo of 2008."He also compared a potential exit of Greece from the eurozone to the collapse of Lehman Brothers back during the last financial crisis...."If Greece leaves the eurozone, the contagion is impossible to predict, just as Lehman had unexpected consequences."So what are some things that the average person can do to get prepared?
Well, a recent article on SHTFplan.com entitled "The List: A to Z Survival for the Abysmal Times Ahead" contains hundreds of ideas for preparing for the chaotic economic environment that we are heading into.
Preparation is going to look different for every family. No two situations are exactly the same.
But there are some practical steps that nearly all of us can take to better position ourselves for what is coming. Now is the time to get educated and now is the time to take action.
Or you could be like all of those that laughed at Noah while he was building that big boat.
In the end, things did not work out too well for those folks.

Unemployment
In the aftermath of the recent spike in Zombie Apocalypse outlier (soon to be inlier) events, which correlate nearly perfectly with the soaring expiration of unemployment extended benefits (recall: "Your EBT Card Has Been Denied": 700,000 Are About To Lose Their Extended Jobless Claims Benefits" - after all people's got to eat), it was only a matter of time before we went from this...

Man in zombie costume nearly shot while pranking Miami residents
By David Edwards
Monday, June 4, 2012 10:25 EDT
A Russian man is now warning people not to dress up as zombies and chase Miami residents after he was nearly shot while attempting it as part of an ill-conceived viral video project.
Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, who says he came to the United States in 2004 to become an actor, posted a video of himself over the weekend in a zombie costume chasing various younger people in streets, parking lots and parks in Miami.
At about the 2 minute mark in the video, one young man fleeing the zombie attack can be seen pointing a gun at the prankster.
“Very Dangerous Prank!” Zdorovetskiy wrote on his YouTube page. “Almost Got Shot at 2:00! DO NOT TRY IT!”
Residents in the city are mostly likely on high alert for zombie attacks after another Miami man recently was shot to death by police because he allegedly ate the face of a homeless man while on drugs.
Considering Florida’s Stand Your Ground law — which allows the legal use deadly force without a duty to retreat — Zdorovetskiy may have picked one of the most dangerous locations in the country for his stunt.
Watch this video from Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, uploaded June 2, 2012.

The List: A to Z Survival for the Abysmal Times Ahead
Be Informed
June 2nd, 2012
SHTF Plan
Comments (149)Read by 22,446 people
In a follow-up to his wildly popular article discussing How Horrific It Will Be For The Non-Prepper, contributor Be Informed provides SHTFplan readers with an extensive list of preparedness and survival keywords and concepts for beginners and seasoned preppers alike.
It seems like no matter how well someone prepares, they inevitably find out they have forgotten something. That all important item or items that arent remembered, that merely only have to be mentioned by name to remind a person of what they needed. Most of the time when someone forgets an article of clothing or other minor object after beginning a vacation they can easily replace it or live without it. After a calamitous event, however, anything that a person has forgotten to store will likely be be impossible to obtain. What someone has in their possession at the time of the event is probably the ONLY thing they will be able to get.
The following list of A to Z survival items and survival related concepts details what one may have simply forgotten because theres so much to prepare for. Kind of like; oh yeah, I am glad that something reminded me of what I need, or thats something I never thought of and I will need it. Most everyone will, of course, not be able to amass everything on this list, and there will of course be items and ideas not mentioned here, but it should be a good place to start for beginners and seasoned preppers alike. A person can always add more to any list of their own essential needs, as lists such as this are almost endless. It should also be realized that no list of survival items and ideas are perfect for any individual, and just because someone has just a portion of what is on it doesnt mean that they are not prepared.
The goal here is to have a general inventory of key words that have to do with prepping and survival that have very brief descriptions and short reasons behind why they are so important regarding survival preparedness. The aim is to keep each survival and prepping word or set of words as compact as possible that is, to not bog down anyone with lengthy explanations that could easily fill an encyclopedia size book. When the prepper/survivalist sees a word in relation to preparing it can and does trigger an automated response that brings thoughts of whether they need or do not need to do something about it in their own planning.
This A to Z list of survival should help in that process.
A
- Ability and adept the more skills you have the better.
