Did Ron Paul Really Win Iowa?
Reports Business Insider:
DES MOINES — Ron Paul may have officially come in third… but if the campaign’s caucus strategy went off as planned, then Paul may actually be the real winner of the first Republican voting contest.
That’s because Paul’s massive organizational push in Iowa focused on both winning votes, and also on making sure that Paul supporters stuck around after the vote to make sure they were selected as county delegates — the first step towards being elected as a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
That’s because Iowa’s Republican caucuses are non-binding — they are technically just a straw poll, so once selected, delegates are free to vote for whichever presidential candidate they choose.
“Part of what we’ve been training the Ron Paul people to do is not to leave after the vote,” Dan Godzich, a senior campaign advisor, told BI. “Stay and get elected to the conventions and get us those delegates…”
By the eve of Election Day, Hay said she was confident that Paul would come away from Iowa with a strong majority of the state’s delegates. It’s a good first step toward making sure that Paul has a strong presence on the floor in Tampa this summer — something that his supporters believe will help force the Republican party to start reckoning with their Movement.
UPDATE: 1:40 a.m.
Sources close to the Paul campaign indicated Tuesday that they were happy with their delegate count. Although we couldn’t get specific numbers, a source told Business Insider that Paul nailed down the delegates in all of Iowa’s smaller counties, and made a strong showing in several larger ones.

Rick Santorum’s Cafeteria Catholicism
On Bill O’Reilly’s FOX News program Wednesday night, Rick Santorum found himself defending his views on contraception. Reports Mediaite:
“It’s going to be a national demonization and you’re going to be portrayed as an extremist,” O’Reilly explained, “and some of your views are out of the mainstream according to polls.” He noted in particular that 98% of Americans support the freedom to use contraceptives, while Santorum believes states have a right to ban them. Santorum noted that the Vatican had restricted the use of them and that he believed states that approved of them should be able to legalize them as well.
Added Santorum: Bill, you’re a Catholic, Catholic Church teaches contraceptive is something you shouldn’t do.
O’Reilly continued to chide Santorum for his supposedly “extreme” views, but I applaud the Senator. There should be more Americans willing to stick to their faith even when it is unpopular or they stand in the minority. There was a time when more Americans agreed with Santorum about contraception. This doesn’t necessarily make Santorum’s position any more or less right or wrong, only more or less popular. Big difference.
But the problem with Santorum is he picks and chooses when to stick to his Catholic faith. The Vatican is so dedicated to protecting life that it looks down on contraception, but the same is true of its view of “preventive war.” There is a time for war, says Catholic teaching, but only as a last resort and only in accordance with the Church’s Just War Theory
When Cardinal Ratzinger was asked whether a U.S. led war on Iraq would be “just war” he replied before it started: ”Certainly not… the damage would be greater than the values one hopes to save.”
Ratzinger added: “All I can do is invite you to read the Catechism, and the conclusion seems obvious to me… the concept of preventive war does not appear in The Catechism of the Catholic Church.”
When Cardinal Ratzinger became Pope Benedict XVI, he said during his Easter message in 2008: “Nothing positive comes from Iraq, torn apart by continual slaughter as the civil population flees…”
Catholic leaders generally said that America’s decision to attack the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001 was a just war because the U.S. was defending itself after 9/11. Ron Paul, a devout Christian who also subscribes to Christian teaching on just war, also voted to go to war with Afghanistan after 9/11.
But both Pope Benedict and his predecessor Pope John Paul II agreed that the Iraq War did not qualify as a “just war.” Paul agreed with the Vatican. Here Paul echoes the Catholic Church’s position on preventive war:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rbn2-LfHXgM
Santorum has called Paul’s foreign policy everything from dangerous to crazy. But is the Catholic Church “dangerous?” Is the Vatican “crazy?”
Santorum was a strong advocate for the Iraq War and still champions the concept of preventive war.
Santorum should be applauded for sticking to his faith and Church teaching on contraception. But perhaps he should be consistent and begin to apply that teaching to his foreign policy as well.

"After the vote was completed, the results were tabulated in an "an undisclosed location." Then, ballots mysteriously went "missing." Fox News anchors began repeating tall tales of someone in a pickup truck driving the results around the state's backroads. (The story turned out to be erroneous.) Although bemused and punchy, none seemed particularly concerned about ballots missing from the ballot place.
When the vote total showed Sen. Rick Santorum up by four votes, Karl Rove announced on Fox that he had gotten news from the Republican National Committee in New York that Mitt Romney's votes had been "undercounted" in two precincts in Story County. In Clinton County, the official vote count was missing, but representatives of the Romney and Santorum campaigns said they had verified the totals hours earlier; they had no idea why the votes had been reported missing."

Manchester, NH (PRWEB) January 05, 2012
Revolution PAC will help propel U.S. Rep. Ron Paul to victory in the New Hampshire Republican Primary with a six-figure investment in advertising airtime between now and January 10.
Aired will be a broadcast version of the super committee's viral web video, “The Compassion of Dr. Ron Paul.” A total of 237 spots featuring the 60-second ad will run on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, Discovery and History channels, and ABC, including three airings during Saturday's ABC News/WMUR Debate at St. Anselm College in Manchester.
Results of a new Washington Times/JZ Analytics Poll, taken Wednesday, show Paul in strong second position in New Hampshire. His top-tier finish at Tuesday's Iowa Caucuses produced a seven-point bounce, to 24 percent.
Enjoying nearly a half-million You Tube views since its release last week, as well as a hit on NBC Nighly News, “Compassion” highlights the Texas congressman and medical doctor’s personal generosity and support of free market health care. Featured is the story of James Williams of Matagorda County, Texas, and his young wife who found themselves under Dr. Paul's care during a high-risk delivery in 1972. In the video, Williams recounts the prejudice of the day and how Paul looked beyond color lines to deliver their bi-racial child when other nurses and doctors ignored James’ pleas for help.
“Dr. Paul understands that in medicine, individuals are best served when physicians are able to practice their craft freely,” explains Revolution PAC Chair Gary Franchi. “We are proud to spotlight not only Ron Paul’s legendary professional integrity but also his spirit of generosity with this ad.”
James Williams and the broadcast version of "Compassion" will be featured Friday on "Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano" on FOX Business Channel.
Revolution PAC is supporting Ron Paul’s consistent, constitutional message with targeted TV advertising, direct mail campaigns and innovative Web promotions complemented by billboards and radio ads in key primary states. Unlimited donations by individuals, businesses and organizations are being accepted by Revolution PAC to support that effort.

Ron Paul Surging in New Hampshire Following Top-Tier Finish in Iowa
New survey shows Paul with double the poll numbers of the third place candidate, solidifying Paul’s position as the ‘Option to Romney’LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul is in second place in the key early voting state of New Hampshire with a remarkable 24 percent of the vote, according to a new poll.
The Washington Times/Zogby Analytics Poll, taken after the Iowa Caucuses Iowa shows, Rick Santorum with just 11 percent, and Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, and Rick Perry earned just 9, 8, and 1 percent, respectively.
Poll highlights include an acknowledgment that Paul has an opportunity for growth, and that about half of all single voters support the 12-term Congressman from Texas.
“On the heels of his close third place finish at the Iowa Caucus, Ron Paul is polling a strong second place in New Hampshire. From here on out, it is a two-man race between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney given that one of the tickets out of Iowa was a dead-end due to Rick Santorum’s glaring lack of viability,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
“There are only two campaigns that have the resources and infrastructure to win the Republican nomination – and one of those organizations belongs to Ron Paul,” added Mr. Benton.
The poll of 498 likely primary voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points and ten percent undecided, showing Dr. Paul with the potential to catch and surpass Gov. Romney and win the Granite State.

The Atlantic: Ron Paul Vindicated on Iran
Writes The Atlantic’s Robert Wright:
A week ago Ron Paul tried to convey how the ever-tightening sanctions on Iran–which may soon includean embargo on its oil–look from an Iranian point of view: It’s as if China were to blockade the Gulf of Mexico, he said–”an act of war”.
This is sheer conjecture; Ron Paul is no expert on Iran. But now someone who does have relevant credentials has weighed in, and the picture he paints is disturbingly reminiscent of the one Paul painted. It suggests we may be closer to war than most people realize.
Vali Nasr, in addition to being a highly respected expert on the Middle East, belongs to a family that, according to Lobelog’s sources, has “a direct line into Iranian Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s inner circle.” In a Bloomberg View piece that is getting a lot of attention, Nasr reports that “Iran has interpreted sanctions that hurt its oil exports, which account for about half of government revenue, as acts of war.” Indeed, the Iranian leadership now sees U.S. policy as “aimed at regime change.”
In this light, Iran’s recent threats–notably that it will close the Strait of Hormuz in response to an oil embargo–shouldn’t be dismissed, says Nasr. “The regime in Tehran is ready for a fight.”
The good news is that Nasr thinks war can be averted. The bad news is that to accomplish this America and other Western powers need to “imagine how the situation looks from Tehran”–not exactly a favorite pastime among American politicians these days.
Still, if only for the intellectual exercise, let’s do try to imagine what things look like from Iran’s point of view.
Iran’s nuclear scientists have recently evinced a tendency to get assassinated, and a mysterious explosion at a military facility happened to kill the general in charge of Iran’s missile program… If you were Iranian, would you consider assassinations on your soil grounds for attacking the suspected perpetrators?
Well, we know that some notable Americans think assassinating people on American soil is punishable by war…
Underlying our Iran strategy is the assumption that if we keep ratcheting up the pressure, the regime will eventually say uncle. A problem with this premise is that throughout human history rulers have shown an aversion to being seen by their people as surrendering…
This doesn’t mean Iran’s rulers haven’t wanted to make a deal… When President Ahmadinejad visited New York last year, he gave reporters unmistakable signals that he wanted to negotiate, but the Obama administration chose to ignore them…
Even so, Iran’s foreign minister made another appeal to re-open talks only days ago, suggesting that they be held in Turkey. But, as the New York Times reported, western nations interpreted this overture “as an effort by Iran to buy time to continue its program.” Got that? If Iranians refuse to negotiate it means they don’t want a deal, and if they ask to negotiate it means they don’t want a deal.
Nasr says the tightening of the screws is making Iran increasingly determined to get nuclear weapons–not to start a war, but to prevent one. Having seen what happened to Muammar Qaddafi, says Nasr, Iran’s leaders worry that foreign powers would “feel safe enough to interfere in the affairs of a non-nuclear-armed state.”
This is the kind of thing Ron Paul presumably had in mind when he said Iran may want nuclear weapons in order to get some “respect.” But hey, what does Ron Paul know?
The Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan adds at The Daily Beast:
One of the key things that Ron Paul has contributed to our discourse is the notion that we should try and look at conflict from the point of view of our foe. You’d think this would be obvious if we are attempting to influence, say, Iran’s behavior, to understand their fears, their baseline interests and their ideology. So far, all we hear about is their ideology. But let’s broaden our moral imagination in ways not allowed in the Washington Post.
Imagine that three scientists working on the US nuclear arsenal were assassinated in the streets of Chicago or Washington or Los Angeles by agents of Iran. Now imagine that an explosion took place at one of our nuclear facilities – also engineered by Iran. Also imagine that Iran was capable of blockading US ports to cripple the US economy. Imagine the dollar collapsing because of this and a new depression initiated. What do you think Mitt Romney would be saying? I suspect he would be saying that Iran has already declared war on the US.
But all these things have happened in Iran, probably by the hands of Israeli intelligence, perhaps by the US, or some combo of the two. Is it surprising that the Iranians are throwing rhetoric around, even if much of it is empty? Of course not.

Ron Paul Campaign Announces South Carolina TV Ad ‘Betrayal’ Aimed at Santorum
Hard-hitting television, Internet ad argues that Washington insider Rick is an untrustworthy serial hypocrite on spending and right to work
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today its new ad ‘Betrayal’ aimed at Rick Santorum. The ad will begin airing on Monday, January 9th on television in the key early voting state of South Carolina. In addition, the campaign has arranged for internet promotion on websites where conservatives congregate.
‘Betrayal’ exposes Rick Santorum as another serial hypocrite in the vein of Newt Gingrich, showcasing the former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania’s record of duplicity on issues such as spending – including raising the debt ceiling – and insider lobbying. The ad also features Santorum’s appalling record on right to work, an issue dear to South Carolina residents but one of pivotal importance right now due to the NLRB-Boeing dispute. The ad also includes Rick Santorum’s now-infamous confession that he is, in his own words, “no longer a deficit hawk.”
“Ron Paul can come to South Carolina with a clear conscience and an impeccable record on the issues important to voters there: fiscal restraint, right to work, and strict adherence to the Constitution and one’s own promises. In addition, Dr. Paul has support from many of our armed services men and women,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
“This ad showcases the real Rick Santorum and it’s the reason why Santorum should be leery of competing in the ‘First in the South’ Republican primary, and it is why we hope for a strong, competitive showing in the Palmetto State,” added Mr. Benton.

How Ron Paul Would Defend America

Ron Paul Wins GOP Straw Poll in Delegate-Rich Idaho
Handily defeats competitors in the Gem StateLAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul easily beat his competitors in the Idaho state Republican Party’s first-ever public presidential straw poll. Paul earned 173 of the 399 votes cast statewide, followed by Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Jon Huntsman who earned 135, 47, 40, and 4 votes, respectively.
The straw poll was held at the Riverside Hotel, located in Boise. The Idaho Republican State Central Committee recently moved its voting contest to March 6th—Super Tuesday—and will nominate candidates using a county by county caucus system. Idaho has 32 delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention, more than Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.
“Ron Paul has a tremendous support base in the oft-overlooked but important state of Idaho. This straw poll win is a positive early indicator that as we focus even more on Pacific Northwest contests, Idaho will stand out as one of the states where Ron Paul has a competitive edge over his establishment competitors,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
Full results of the straw poll are as follows.*
Ron Paul – 173
Mitt Romney – 135
Newt Gingrich – 47
Rick Santorum – 40
Jon Huntsman – 4

The Granite State Room in the Memorial Union Building at UNH-Durham was standing room only as Dr. Paul and NH State Senator Jim Forsythe took the stage for a brief discussion followed by questions from the audience.
“We had two overflow crowds today,” said NH State Director Jared Chicoine. “And that as two polls were released showing a widening gap in this state between the two top candidates and the rest of the field.
“Dr. Paul is drawing crowds because he is the only believable candidate on the issue that will define this country in 2013 and beyond: real, sound economic growth for the American people.”

Ron Paul Campaign Names New ‘Homeschoolers for Ron Paul’ Nationwide Coalition MembersEducation choice champions create unity among their peers, establish resources, and prefer PaulLAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today additional members of its active “Homeschoolers for Ron Paul” nationwide coalition.
First announced in August, the successful coalitions effort has generated momentum in the first-in-nation voting state of Iowa. Today, interest in Ron Paul by this population segment has spilled over to many other states and the national campaign. The campaign’s expanded use of the homeschool and other coalitions is proving itself a useful tool in helping to make Barack Obama a one-term president.
Officially declaring their support, the following individuals and families have joined the national advisory board of the “Homeschoolers for Ron Paul” coalition.
Along with her husband Bill, Mary Pride is the founder and publisher of Practical Homeschooling magazine, a publication that boasts 100,000 readers circulated for more than 27 years. In conjunction with Practical Homeschooling, her website www.home-school.comis among the more popular homeschool resource sites on the web. Pride also authored a dozen books devoted to home education and Christian family life.
“I am for Ron Paul because he is the only candidate who is actually willing to stand for Constitutional government and an end to our breakneck dash towards national bankruptcy, because he is right that America cannot afford to be the world’s policeman, and because any of his currently viable opponents would be disastrous as President.”
“Rick Santorum will never be forgotten for how he tirelessly stumped for transparently liberal Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania—the same Arlen Specter who defected to the Democrats once in office, and who with the election of Al Franken provided the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in 2009. This, although a genuine conservative, Pat Toomey, was leading Specter in polls at the time and Toomey lost by less than 2 percent even with President Bush and then-Senator Rick Santorum both pulling all the stops out to elect Specter. Looking at his actual voting record, as opposed to his present campaign promises, Santorum is a big government spender. “
“As the mother of nine homeschool graduates, the author in 1986 of the first mass-market homeschool ‘how to’ book, and the publisher of Practical Homeschooling magazine for over 100 issues, I am not only concerned about which candidate can best be trusted with our homeschooling freedoms—Ron Paul—but that your and my children will be able to raise their own children in a country that is not a mere shell of its former self. This is why I support Ron Paul for President in 2012,” concluded Mrs. Pride.
Former editor of Homeschooling Today magazine, Jim Bob Howard is a homeschooling father of four, dedicated husband of 17 years, and has actively served in several positions for the Christian Home Educators Association of Central Texas. Jim Bob and his wife Amy have spoken at several homeschooling conferences and have written numerous articles on home education.
“Very few candidates for office will try and fail more than once or twice. Or, once elected, most will spend an inordinate amount of time seeking re-election. One statesman stands out in stark contrast to this vanity fair of clamoring for offices of public trust. His name is Ron Paul. What I care about is that he’s a Godly man of character and conviction, who has made himself a lifelong student of liberty and personal responsibility,” offered Mr. Howard.
“Dr. Paul is a man of principles; he’s a brother in Christ; and he’s a champion of ‘liberty with responsibility.’ But don’t take my word for it, read what he has said, what he’ll do in office, and why he’ll do it. If you see a man of principles who will not back down against a sea of opposition, if you see a statesman who has been fighting for your liberty for more than 30 years, if you see a man who sets the personal standard and encourages others to do the same, I hope you’ll join me in voting for Ron Paul,” added Mr. Howard.
Nationally acclaimed educator, author and commentator Leigh Bortins is credited with helping to launch the “home-centered learning” education movement. She is CEO and Founder of Classical Conversations, Inc., and hails from Seven Lakes, North Carolina.
“In determining which candidate to support, I wondered which candidate would support me the most consistently as I educate myself and my children in the ways of God and the institutions He ordained – government, church, and family. I wondered which candidate would acknowledge that the best education raises children that feed the hungry, give sight to the blind, and care for widows and orphans – not a candidate who asks for legislation that favors our employment, nor ask for others to fund our sports teams, schools, and libraries,” said Ms. Bortins.
“Is there a candidate that trusts me to feed my family, to care for my elderly parents, to keep my yard’s wetlands healthy, and to purchase insurance if I live in a flood zone? Is there a candidate that believes I am an adult who can make responsible decisions to grow my financial assets, to save for my old age, and to invest in my education? Is there a candidate who believes that if someone who is hungry comes to my attention, I will feed him or her? Yes. Politics doesn’t matter to him as much as the truth. He knows it is wrong to ask for money that just doesn’t exist and isn’t yours. He is a presidential candidate who not only understands thoroughly that ideas have consequences, but I believe has a chance to win. He has been around a very long time. That is why I’m endorsing Ron Paul for President,” added Ms. Bortins.
Owner of the homeschool resource website www.HomeschoolChristian.comand founder of the Brevard Homeschool Support group, Martha Robinson is a proud mother of four. After spending fourteen years in the corporate sector, Ms. Robinson began devoting her attention to home education in 1999, and pursuing the teaching of Austrian economics in homeschool curricula. Her background also includes thousands of volunteer hours spent with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, among other organizations, and teaching economics and history to homeschooled teens and parents.
“Ron Paul is the only candidate who has shown a consistent record of voting to allow people to make free choices in this country, and he has supported homeschooling with all his heart. As homeschoolers, we have bravely stepped out of the mainstream, leading our children to a better way of life. Now is the time for us to rally behind Ron Paul. His wisdom and experience will allow him to tackle the behemoth our government has become and to restore the liberties that we as Americans want and deserve. I fully endorse Ron Paul as the next President of the United States,” Ms. Robinson wrote in a statement.
As a basic first step, those wanting to join the “Homeschoolers for Ron Paul” nationwide coalition should visit the official page by clicking here. They should also contact Chris Kuper, National Coalitions Liaison for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign, via email at chrisk@ronpaul2012.com.

Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Jon Huntsman are all trying to cut into Mitt Romney's lead in New Hampshire -- but Romney is not the only one they are chasing.
Ron Paul is in second place in many polls leading into Tuesday's primary.
A survey by WMUR-TV/University of New Hampshire put Romney at 44%, followed by Paul at 20%.
Santorum and Gingrich tied for third at 8%, followed by Huntsman at 7%.
So don't be surprised if Paul -- who finished third in the Iowa caucuses, behind Romney and Santorum -- takes some heat during tonight's debate at Saint Anselm College in Manchester.
For a preview of tonight's face-off, check out our OnPolitics post by Catalina Camia.
Writes Catalina:
Paul spent a good chunk of time at the last Iowa debates defending his views on foreign policy, and his belief that America shouldn't overreact to Iran's nuclear threat. He is viewed as an isolationist, and the oft-repeated sentiment from Gingrich and other rivals is that Paul is "dangerous"
Paul doesn't plan to change the way he debates, telling reporters that he'll do the "same thing I've been doing."
"The message is what counts," he said. "Of course, I can always improve my ability to deliver the message. The crowds make it easy for me, they seem to welcome it."

Ron Paul goes on the attack, steps back into the spotlight at debate
By Emily Goodin - 01/07/12 10:57 PM ET
Ron Paul returned to the spotlight Saturday night by attacking his rivals for the Republican nomination.
The Texas congressman launched ferocious attacks against Rick Santorum, who has surged in the polls recently, and Newt Gingrich.
Those two snapped back, leading to one of the most testy exchanges in the debate, and all frontrunner Mitt Romney had to do was sit back and watch his rivals tear each other down.
Paul, who is second in New Hampshire polls, got plenty of air time to make his attacks and all of the candidates involved in the exchanges found themselves playing defense against each other.
Paul has pounded Santorum since the former senator has surged in the polls, and he kept it up during Saturday night's debate.
Paul, who has called Santorum a "liberal" because of his record on voting for government spending, was asked if he stood by an ad from his campaign calling Santorum "corrupt."
He responded by calling Santorum one of the "top corrupt individuals because he took so much money from the lobbyists."
But his argument was interrupted by feedback from his microphone, causing Santorum to quip: "They caught you not telling the truth, Ron."
While that remark was funny, the former senator also gave a former response, attacking Paul's record for supporting earmarks.
"As a senator from Pennsylvania that I had a responsibility to go out there and represent the interests of my state. And that's what I did to make sure that Pennsylvania was able, in formulas and other things, to get its fair share of money back. I don't apologize for that any more than you did when you earmarked things and did things when you were a congressman in Texas," he said.
Paul wouldn't back down: "You're a big-government conservative. And you don't vote for, you know, right to work and these very important things. And that's what weakens the economy. So to say you're a conservative, I think, is a stretch. But you've convinced a lot of people of it, so somebody has to point out your record."
Santorum snapped back: "I think I have an opportunity to respond here. I've convinced a lot of people of it because my record is actually pretty darn good. … You vote against everything. I don't vote against everything. I do vote for some spending. I do think government has a role to play."
Texas Gov. Rick Perry used that exchange to note: "You've just seen a great example of why I got in this race, because I happen to think that I'm the only outsider, with the possible exception of Jon Huntsman, who has not been part of the problem in Washington, D.C., the insiders in Washington, D.C."
He also accused Paul of being a hypocrite: "Here's what frustrates me, is that you go get the earmarks and then you vote against the bill? Now, I don't know what they call that in other places, but, Congressman Paul, in Texas, we call that hypocrisy."
Paul was quick to answer: "Well, I call it being a constitutionalist, because I believe we should earmark, or designate, every penny."
Gingrich was also critical of Paul. When asked about Paul calling him a "chickenhawk" because he didn't serve in the military, the former speaker said: "Dr. Paul makes a lot of comments. It's part of his style."
Paul wouldn't back down. "I think people who don't serve when they could and they get three or four or even five deferments, they have no right to send our kids off to war," he said. "I'm trying to stop the wars, but
at least, you know, I went when they called me up."
Gingrich looked angry and said he resented Paul's remarks.
"Dr. Paul has a long history of saying things that are inaccurate and false. The fact is, I never asked for deferment. I was married with a child. It was never a question. My father was, in fact, serving in Vietnam in the Mekong Delta at the time he's referring to. I think I have a pretty good idea of what it's like as a family to worry about your father getting killed. And I personally resent the kind of comments and aspersions he routinely makes without accurate information and then just slurs people with," he said.
Paul injected: "When I was drafted, I was married and had two kids, and I went."
The audience strongly applauded that statement and over the noise Gingrich said, "I wasn't eligible for the draft. I wasn't eligible for the draft."

Violence Explodes In Iraq … Again
By fitsnews • on January 5, 2012

Still think Ron Paul’s foreign policy views are kooky?
Two weeks after a deadly wave of bombings killed 63 people in Baghdad, warring religious sects in Iraq are once again blowing each other up. Well, it’s more likely that al-Qaeda in Iraq is blowing people up – hoping to incite sectarian violence.
A suicide bombing targeting Shiite Muslims in Nasiriya, Iraq killed at least 36 people, while dozens of others perished in a series of bombings in Baghdad. According to the Associated Press, at least 72 people are dead as a result of the coordinated attacks.
“Our guess is that this is the first of many attacks to come,” we wrote after the initial round of explosions on December 22.
Of course we didn’t expect such a speedy, widespread resumption of the terror campaign.
The bombings come in the wake of U.S. President Barack Obama’s decision to pull all remaining U.S. troops out of Iraq – ending an eight-and-a-half year war that was based on sketchy intelligence and no clear objective or exit strategy.
A total of 4,484 U.S. soldiers died in Iraq. Meanwhile 1,857 U.S. soldiers have died in Afghanistan – 1,227 of them within the last three years.
“We don’t particularly care if Iraq’s ‘democracy’ survives,” we wrote last month. “It’s not America’s job to make the world safe for democracy, it’s America’s job to keep this Republic (or what’s left of it) safe from attack. Pardon our isolationist insensitivity, but these warring sects can detonate themselves into oblivion for all we care – as long as our troops aren’t getting caught in the crossfire.”
Yes it’s a damn shame that anyone, anywhere in the world is being targeted for obliteration as a result of their religion – but unless there is a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States resulting from the terror, it’s just not something America should get involved in militarily.
In fact we should celebrate the one silver lining of this tragedy … the fact that none of our soldiers were blown up for a change

Establishment GOP Insider Admitted to Plan to Subvert Iowa Caucus In Order to Prevent Ron Pauls Win
January 5, 2011
The day before the Iowa Caucus an establishment GOP insider openly admitted to a plan to subvert votes away from Ron Paul by swaying large voter blocks to vote for Romney or Santorum.
Sadly this appears to have actually happened, with tens of thousands of votes for Rick Santorum coming out of no where and moving Ron Paul into third place which in turn moved him out of most major news headlines.
This fact, coupled with the revelations that in many places throughout Iowa NO voter id card was required to vote, makes the results of yesterdays caucus very suspicious.
We will continue to research this ongoing situation and will be publishing a much more in depth report in the near future.

Former CIA Head Of Bin Laden Unit: Iowans Should Vote Paul For Safer America
January 3, 2012 by Sam Rolley
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...0103_image.jpg
Michael Scheuer is a renowned foreign policy expert who spent decades working to make the United States safer from Islamic terrorists.
The former CIA member who was, until his resignation in 2004, in charge of the unit that tracked Osama bin Laden said recently on his website that Ron Paul was Iowans’ only choice.
Michael Scheuer, a renowned foreign policy expert who spent decades working to make the United States safer from Islamic terrorists, wrote in a post that a vote for any candidate but Paul is a vote for American bankruptcy, U.S. efforts to destabilize more nations, billions of foreign aid spending in countries involved in Arab Spring revolts, widespread Islamic terror attacks on the United States, war with Iran and a continued and growing reliance on Mideast oil.
An excerpt from Scheuer’s endorsement reads:
Notwithstanding the damnable lies about Dr. Paul’s foreign policy constantly proclaimed by his fellow Republican candidates, leading pro-Israel/pro-intervention U.S.-citizens and their journalist friends, and most of the media, only the gentleman from Texas speaks for the Founder’s non-interventionist vision of America’s role in world affairs and for plain common sense. In the Founders’ non-interventionist design for U.S. foreign policy that is championed by Dr. Paul, Iowans will find a proven road to the maintenance of America’s sovereignty, independence, peace, and prosperity. In the realm of common sense, Dr. Paul beats his fellow candidates, the Obamaites, and the media hands down. Dr. Paul challenges the interventionists in both parties on their plans for spreading secular democracy — and causing wars thereby — on historical grounds that are irrefutable because they are just good commonsense. We, the British, the Australians, and the Canadians have been building our republics/democracies since Magna Charta in 1215 — that is for nearly 800 years — and we are not yet quite perfect. If Iowans and all Americans truly think about what Dr. Paul is saying — and not what the interventionists say he is saying — they would respond favorably to the Texan’s logical conclusion that what we have not fully accomplished in eight centuries cannot possibly be attained in Egypt, Afghanistan, or elsewhere in the Muslim world in 6 weeks, 6 months, or six years, not least because none of those places separate church from state. The Paul campaign said that the endorsement from a former CIA official who has witnessed firsthand the effects of U.S. military adventurism in the Mideast should reshape discussion about Paul’s foreign policy beliefs.
