    The Case Against Mitt Romney

    Submitted by Ian56 on Sun, 09/02/2012 - 05:21
    Daily Paul Liberty Forum

Romney is a full on neocon supported by all the hard core neocons (Cheney, Bolton. Kristol etc.)

Romney's senior Foreign Policy advisor is Dan Senor. Rabid GW Bush warmonger propagandist and acolyte of William Kristol.

Romney (and the RNC) adopted Stalinist election tactics and power grabs to get Romney nominated.

There was uproar amongst large sections of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party is no longer the Party of Reagan.

Uproar in the Republican Party (even Romney delegates spoke out with scathing criticism.

If Romney is so cavalier with RNC rules, how cavalier would he be with Federal Laws and Executive Orders?

Romney is probably one of the most corrupt and venal people ever to run for political office. He makes Nixon look like a Saint.

He is a reckless spender who will bankrupt America (like Europe) with massive deficits ($1.5tn p.a.) spending astronomical amounts on the military (48% of ALL Federal spending). Ryan is the same.

    http://ian56.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/...ion-to-wide...

I don't know how anyone could think Romney will create any jobs for America. He hasn't created any in 28 years, I don't know why he would start creating any now, by raping the middle classes with his policies.

Some interesting information on Romney is contained within this. E.G. Seed capital from S American Death squads for Bain Capital.

Government bailout when Bain Capital was in trouble in it's early days.
Bain trading with Iran whilst Romney was 'active' according to his 2010 tax returns.

    Tax evasion.

Making $10m from Allen Stanfords Ponzi scheme (Stanford got 102 years in June). The investigation into romney's role in this affair is still on-going, charges have not been dropped.

GOP Shocker : Republican Platform Endorses a Value Added Tax Or National Sales Tax

Submitted by emalvini on Sat, 09/01/2012 - 19:23
    Politics, General + Law(s)

The 2012 Republican Platform calls for a complete overhaul of the federal tax system. No surprise there. But then it endorses a value-added tax or national sales tax as one possible solution to the nation's budget problems. This is shocking.

The VAT would be adopted only if it is accompanied by "the simultaneous repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment, which established the federal income tax," the platform states. A Republican-controlled Congress passed that amendment in 1909, and the states ratified it in 1913. The tax was aimed squarely at the ultra-wealthy, targeting the top 1% of wage earners.

Removal of the 99-year-old tax amendment is so unlikely that the platform plank seems facetious. As for the VAT, perhaps it was inserted in the document for yucks, too. A mere two years ago, "VAT" was an obscenity in GOP circles.

The Republican National Committee, which produced the 2012 platform in 2010, vigorously attacked the value-added tax after Obama advisor Paul Volcker said that a VAT or a carbon tax might be needed to narrow the budget deficit. The RNC assumed that the Democrats would add the regressive VAT to existing taxes and consequently soak the middle class.

Paul Craig Roberts: GOP Brownshirts Stomp on Paulians

Putin Is Demonized While Democracy Fails In Amerika ~ Paul Craig Roberts

    August 30, 2012

The latest “rights group” to jump on Russia’s President Putin about Pussy Riot is RootsAction.

Following the propaganda line that Washington has established, RootsAction’s appeal for money and petition signers states that the three Russian women were sentenced to two years in prison “for the ‘crime’ of performing a song against Russia’s president Vladimir Putin in a Moscow church.”

This statement is a propagandistic misrepresentation of the offense for which the women were tried and convicted.

I have expressed my sympathies for the convicted women, and as a member of Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union, I support human rights.

But I do not support the use of human rights organizations in behalf of Washington’s propaganda.

If Putin or some other official has the power to commute the sentences, I hope he uses it. But I do not think that the concerted Western propaganda campaign against Putin encourages that result.

Twice as many Russians support the sentence than oppose it.

If the sentence is commuted in response to the Western propaganda campaign against Putin, Russian nationalists will depict Putin as a weak leader unable to stand up to Western intimidation.

The more internal dissension there is in Russia, the easier for Washington to marginalize the country and kick it out of Washington’s path to the overthrow of Syria and Iran by brutal human-rights-violating violence, such as Washington has applied to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya.

The State Department, the EU, and human rights groups are sufficiently politically astute to be aware of this fact. Yet, the propaganda continues.

As Putin has said, “we know what Comrade Wolf is up to.” But what about the human rights organizations? What are they up to? Have they been incorporated into Washington’s propaganda machine, like the Western media, or are they latching on to Pussy Riot as a visibility and fundraising issue for themselves?

Do-good organizations hurt for money, because compassion for others is not in abundant supply.

Pussy Riot is a fundraising opportunity. If the Russian government succumbs to the propaganda, it provides an opportunity for human rights organizations to tout their influence. In other words, human rights organizations have independent reasons to align with Washington’s propaganda.

Their alignment does not necessarily mean that they are conscious tools of Washington.

You can bet your last dollar that Washington, which dismisses as “collateral damage” the hundreds of thousands of women, children, and village elders murdered in Washington’s wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, and Syria, is not concerned with the three Pussy Riot women’s 2-year prison sentence.

Washington has kept the American hero, Bradley Manning in prison for two years without a trial.

Washington claims the power, strictly prohibited by the US Constitution, that “scrap of paper,” to hold US citizens indefinitely in prison without due process of law and to murder them on suspicion alone without due process of law. Does any sentient person really believe that such a government gives a hoot about a two-year prison sentence for three Russian women?

The Western media is silent about the collapse of the United States into tyranny. But, on cue from Washington, the Western media is loud about the dire plight of Pussy Riot.

For example, this from the UK’s The Week with First Post: “Beyond Pussy Riot: slow death of freedom in Putin’s Russia.” Louisa Loveluck introduces her report: “The Russian government’s distaste for freedom of expression has been in the headlines recently thanks to the trial and subsequent imprisonment of three members of punk collective Pussy Riot. But the persecution of these women forms only a small part of a much broader crackdown on civil liberties in President Vladimir Putin’s Russia.”

Has Putin, like the Amerikan presidents Bush and Obama, declared that he has the power to throw Russian citizens in a dungeon for life without ever presenting evidence in a court? No, he has not.

Has Putin, like the Amerikan president Obama, declared that he has the power to assassinate Russian citizens without due process of law? No, he has not.

Has Putin, like the Amerikan president Obama, declared that he has the legal authority to invade any country of which he disapproves and to overthrow its government? No, he has not.

So why is the UK’s Louisa Loveluck going on about a two-year prison sentence in Russia when the UK government, in defiance of international law and in obedience to its Amerikan master, refuses safe passage to Ecuador for Julian Assange, who has been granted political asylum? Even “authoritarian” China grants safe passage to those granted asylum.

The hypocrisy of the West, including the rank hypocrisy of human rights organizations, is nauseating. It makes one ashamed.

Julian Assange faces life imprisonment in the Ecuadoran Embassy in London because the puppet UK government is helping Washington make an example of what happens to journalists who dare to publish the truth about Washington’s mendacity and war crimes.

Is Washington paying Louisa Loveluck’s salary or is she, along with the First Post, simply terrified of Washington’s power? Or are Ms. Loveluck and the First Post simply going with the flow and avoiding criticism by not differing from the propaganda line?

No one will investigate, so we will never know.

Meanwhile in “freedom and democracy” america, at their Tampa, Florida, nominating convention, the Republican Party showed its true colors. It is a Brownshirt Party.

The tyrannical Republican machine refused to allow Ron Paul’s name to be mentioned or his delegate count to be presented.

Reports from the Republican nomination convention read like reports of Stalin’s takeover of the Communist Party or the Nazi takeover of the German state. Rules adopted at the convention eliminate any grass roots input.

    The Republican politburo is supreme.

The party is subservient, and the members’ voices are eliminated. Mimicking Lenin, the Republicans declared that Republican rule “means neither more nor less than unlimited power, resting directly on force, not limited by anything, not restricted by any laws, nor any absolute rules.

    Nothing else but that.”

As Mother Jones reported, Ron Paul supporters shouted from the convention floor, “**** You, Tyrants!” Mojo - August 2012 | Mother Jones

The Republicans are the party of “freedom and democracy.”

The Republicans are the party most controlled by the neoconservatives, who are strongly allied with Israel’s far right-wing government and are most hostile to the US Constitution.

The Republicans are the party that gave us the PATRIOT Act, the first massive assault on the US Constitution.

The Republicans are the party that gave us 9/11.

The Republicans are the party that gave us the $3 trillion war against Iraq based on the Republican party’s lies about “weapons of mass destruction.”

The Republicans are the party that gave us the $3 trillion war in Afghanistan based on lies about Osama bin Laden and the Taliban.

The Republicans are the party that gave us the supremacy of the President over both the US Constitution and US statutory law; the executive branch is bound by neither according to the Republican Federalist Society members of the US Department of Justice (sic).

Obama is a despicable patsy, a front man for powerful private interests, and Democrats should be totally ashamed to have elevated such a cowardly lowlife. But as awful as Obama is, a vote for Republicans is a vote for Hitler or Stalin.

Indeed, the election of Romney and Ryan would be worse than either.

The GOP Committed Suicide At RNC And Showed What We Knew All Along.

All along there have been those of us that warned from the beginning about the hostile GOP against the lone Ron Paul..
How many times were people called names, chided, scolded, rebuked...when they proposed that 'infiltrating' the GOP from within was a really bad idea?

What further evidence did we need from a a whole campaign season of constant lies, smears, cheats against Ron Paul. From the media and from the GOP ITSELF.He was always an outsider. Let in the door to rub some elbows at the party and maybe have a glass of champagne, but not 'one of the crowd'.

The mistake that Ron and campaign made was thinking that the GOP would play fair. They haven't, they don't, they won't, they'll stop at nothing to having it a contest between status quo LEFT or status quo RIGHT. Delegates now don't even matter as we have witnessed at the RNC, the GOP has gone into full authoritarian mode and the best efforts of good people have been flushed down the toilet by very powerful connected people.

    So what now?

It seems now the only option is Ron Paul write in.. or a Gary Johnson vote. Of which I am unsure what the right choice is.

Call The Libertarian Party And Tell Them You Want Ron Paul!

    Ron Paul 2012

If you have now contacted Gary Johnson and Ron Paul yet, their contact info is on this thread: http://www.dailypaul.com/252536/its-still-possible-call-ron-...

It occurred to me that for this really to happen - the LP is going to have to be on board as well. So let's call them also and let them know that we want Ron Paul. If you are a republican tell them so, and that the LP will get your vote this year if Ron is at the top of the ticket. Gary has said in the past he would step aside for Ron, however I believe the LP can do it with or without Gary signing on. It would be much better if he is still on board with the idea. Tell them you know it's unusual, but that this is a very special circumstance and a great year for a STRONG candidate.

Especially because of how the GOP treated the Ron Paul people. Remind them that Gary mentioned he would step aside for Ron.

Some states give you major party status for getting as low as 5% of the vote. The LP knows this, if there is a way to make this happen they will want to do it. Both the LP site and Gary's site feature videos from Ron Paul as the first thing you see, so let's make it happen!

Call and email the LP. Pass the word along to your friends, family, email lists, and other Liberty boards that you post on. If you know any of the leadership below contact them personally. I know a few and that is what I plan to do. If you have the time, contact them all. Be polite and respectful, but let them know that you want Ron Paul.

    The Republicans’ Pretty Good Party

August 31, 2012 by Chip Wood

    UPI

Now that 20,000 soggy delegates, alternates, lobbyists and political hangers-on have left Tampa, Fla., what can we say about the just-concluded Republican convention?

Ron Paul fans weren’t given much to cheer about. Yes, there was a brief video tribute to the man himself.

And his son, Rand Paul, the junior Senator from Kentucky, was given a second-tier speaking slot. But the convention rules were rigged so that Ron Paul’s name could not even be placed in nomination for President — with the result that none of his delegates had a chance to vote for him.

Oh, there was one other nod to the Paul camp: The Republican platform endorsed his longtime demand to audit the Federal Reserve. Granted, an audit is a long way from Paul’s far more meaningful campaign to abolish the Fed. But it’s a start.

We should also be cheered that a bill demanding such an audit actually passed the House of Representatives this year. It’s no surprise that Harry Reid made sure it never saw the light of day in the Senate. But I think it’s safe to say that Paul’s “End the Fed” campaign made more progress this year than in the past 20. And I was glad to see that it got at least a crumb or two from the Republican powers that be.

Conservative friends who were at the convention have told me, with considerable pride, that the Republican platform for 2012 is “the best one we’ve seen in the past 20 years.” Looking over the various provisions in it, they’re probably right. But so what?

Sorry, but how many minds do you think will be changed — or how many votes will be won (or lost) — by anything that is in either party’s platform?

Party platforms are much ado about nothing. I liked the suggestion from House Speaker John Boehner, who suggested that the whole thing should be boiled down to one page. “Do you know anyone who’s ever read the platform?” he asked. Clearly, the question was meant to be rhetorical.

I don’t have anything to say now about Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech.

Thanks to the deadline schedule for Personal Liberty, I have to turn this column in before he delivers it. But let me say a few words about some of the other tub-thumpers I heard leading up to it.

First, Paul Ryan did exactly what he was supposed to do. In his acceptance speech for the Vice Presidential nomination on Wednesday night, he lambasted Barack Obama for his failed policies and lack of leadership. He came across as smart and sincere, ready to argue the issues and passionate about helping change the country’s direction. He was interrupted by applause more than any other speaker in Tampa; let’s see if the head of the ticket does as well.

Let me also note something everyone agrees on: Ann Romney did a wonderful job in her prime-time speech Tuesday night. She was warm, personable, loving and sincere. Brit Hume, Fox News’ veteran analyst, said it was the best convention speech he had ever heard, bar none.

I thought she did a decent job trying to humanize her husband and an incredible job appealing to other women. No one could doubt the passion and the trust in her voice, when she declared: “This man will not fail. This man will not let us down. This man will lift up America.”

I wondered how the left would try to turn Romney’s smashing performance into a negative. On Wednesday morning, I got my answer.

The New York Times began its coverage of her speech with this: “She may be too good. Ann Romney is so gifted at politics, she may actually make her husband look a little bad.”

How’s that for damning with faint praise? But wait, it gets even worse.

Here’s the rest of the article’s opening:

Their personality gap — her ease, his discomfort — has been evident in most of the many joint interviews they have given television reporters.

But it really stood out during her bold, boisterous testimonial to him at the Republican convention on Tuesday night. She was electric — when Mitt Romney came to her side at the end, he somehow sapped the energy from the moment.

Gee, just think how nasty The Times would have been if she’d done a bad job! Still, I suspect the overwhelming majority of Americans — men and women — will prefer Ann Romney’s enthusiastic sweetness to Michelle Obama’s icy toughness. If the Mitt Romney campaign is smart, we’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more from Ann Romney over the next two months, both in live appearances and in commercials.

I wasn’t blown away by Chris Christie’s tough-love keynote address. He may have had the best one-liner of the convention, though, with this remark: “Real leaders don’t follow polls. Real leaders change polls.”

The theme of his remarks was the need “to choose respect over love.” It seemed to me that it got a little stretched when he said that choosing respect over love meant telling the truth about entitlements to senior citizens and telling the truth about debt to working families. Somehow, I don’t see either of those becoming a popular bumper sticker.

Several reporters jumped all over the New Jersey Governor for talking a lot more about himself than he did about Mitt Romney. Although I didn’t have a stopwatch on him, it’s probably true that Christie didn’t mention the Republican nominee by name until he was 16 minutes into his peroration.

OK, so maybe he did go on about his Sicilian mother a little too long. But give the guy a break. His job was to put some juicy red meat in front of the assembled delegates. Overall, he performed that task very well.

By the way, so did someone who got very little coverage in the mainstream media. I’m referring to Artur Davis, the black former Congressman and longtime Democrat who actually seconded Obama’s nomination in Denver four years ago. Davis is now a Republican. His speech on Tuesday should help win over some independents and disenchanted Democrats. I hope a bunch of them saw it.

Now, forgive me as I sign off. I want to hear how Marco Rubio does introducing Mitt Romney — and how the candidate himself comes across.

Forget sweet and cuddly; what America needs now is a strong and forceful leader. Let’s see if Romney can convince enough Americans that he’s the one.

Those two talks on Thursday night will go a long way to determining whether Romney or Obama carries Florida this November. Whoever wins the Sunshine State will probably win the White House, too.
So tell all your friends in Florida to vote early and vote often.

Just kidding. This isn’t Chicago, you know.
