You're ALL Right! Keep On Posting!

The current phase of the r3VOLution, the one led by Dr. Ron Paul, is over. It is moving into a new phase, and I'd like to describe what that is. First, though, many of us on DP have posted our views of how we should direct all our talent:

• Some have said we should all join the Libertarian Party and vote Gary Johnson.
• Some have said we should all stay Republicans and vote Gary Johnson this time.
• Some have said we should become Independent, divorce from politics and just work in our families/communities.
• Some have said we should bring everyone into the GOP and strengthen our grassroots effort, maybe with the Tea Party, to win more influence and eventually take over.
• Some have said that we are in an abusive relationship with the GOP, and the only way to end it is to walk away.
• Some have said that the PTB want us to walk away, so they can keep making things worse, and for that reason we shouldn't back down.
• Some have said that we should try to find one standard-bearer to rally around, and try to elevate the Judge, Rand, Amash, or someone else to the leader position.
• Some have said we should just support all Liberty messengers and fill spots with Liberty people from the bottom-up so we have lots of Liberty candidates in 4 years.
• Some of us are all about Johnson, some are all about Molyneux, some are all about Woods, some are all about Kokesh, some are all about Schiff, some are all about Rand.
• Most of us are all about Ron Paul.

In my opinion: You're all right!

In fact, there's no right or wrong here. There's just liberty. The message of liberty means that none of us is forcing anyone else to do anything. So, as long as we're all educating the people in the cause of liberty...

• If you want to work outside the system to bring it down, like Gandhi and MLKjr, more power to you!
• If you want to work inside the system to bring it down, like Mandela and Dr. Paul, more power to you!
• If you want to use alternative media and the Web to build a 3rd party image, more power to you!
• If you want to just teach your family and neighbors through non-agression, more power to you!
• If you want to wait a while and see what happens before making up your mind, more power to you!

Whatever you do:

• You must realize that your way is not the only way. Our individuality makes us useful in many ways.
• Don't feel like you can't advocate your position to get more people involved in your effort.
• Be understanding if it's not your prospect's cup of tea and help direct them to another Liberty effort.

Personally, I want to walk Ron Paul's footsteps for a while, so I'll be active in the GOP as so many are, and do my best to expose the hypocrisy and corruption, while trying to elevate discussions to incorporate reason, rights and responsibility.

Why is it ok for us to have such a "fractured" movement?

Well, here's my wild prediction for the future:

Somewhere between an economic collapse, WWIII and the democratization of knowledge through alternative media, I think that our liberty warriors will take over the GOP sometime in the next 8 years. The disenfranchised neoconservatives will then form a new Republican party.

In the ensuing mess, our Liberty GOP will call for a permanent coalition of Libertarian, Constitution, Green and other third parties, along with disaffected Republicans, Democrats and Independents, with a simple one-page platform that is simply pro-liberty, leaving out any differences between the messages of the separate parties while emphasizing simply an end to crony capitalism and government abuse while promoting individual choice and state sovereignty.

My forecasting model (my brain) breaks down at that point because it could either be civil war or utopia. Who knows and who really cares? All that matters is that we all live in the present, be prepared, and that none of us are overly obsessed with getting everyone on our side. If I'm even remotely right, the independence of America and Americans depends on us having liberty people in every party (except the named socialist ones - yuck :P) and outside of the party, just being positive influences every day.

To sum up, as long as you believe in liberty and you make any effort to spread it, you are doing great! Be involved, and if you are already, be more involved! Try to span gaps, become a fusion influence, study philosophy and stay positive!

By closing two cases of detainees tortured to death, Obama has put the US beyond any accountability under the rule of law

The Obama administration's aggressive, full-scale whitewashing of the "war on terror" crimes committed by Bush officials is now complete. Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder announced the closing without charges of the only two cases under investigation relating to the US torture program: one that resulted in the 2002 death of an Afghan detainee at a secret CIA prison near Kabul, and the other the 2003 death of an Iraqi citizen while in CIA custody at Abu Ghraib. This decision, says the New York Times Friday, "eliminat[es] the last possibility that any criminal charges will be brought as a result of the brutal interrogations carried out by the CIA".

To see what a farce this is, it is worthwhile briefly to review the timeline of how Obama officials acted to shield Bush torturers from all accountability. During his 2008 campaign for president, Obama repeatedly vowed that, while he opposed "partisan witch-hunts", he would instruct his attorney general to "immediately review" the evidence of criminality in these torture programs because "nobody is above the law." Yet, almost immediately after winning the 2008 election, Obama, before he was even inaugurated, made clear that he was opposed to any such investigations, citing what he called "a belief that we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards".

Letter to Ron Paul from Evan Cutler about the teleconference

My slightly edited letter to Dr. and Carol Paul today--edits noted with brackets.

Hello Dr. and Carol Paul,

I held a teleconference last night on the subject of your supporters persuading you back into the race Dr. Paul.

The response was overwhelming!

The short story is that [edited for privacy: many important members of the Libertarian party and campaign] contacted me, and they would do what it takes to have you on their ticket as a VP Candidate. They have spoken with [edited for privacy: ...and inform me] you will get the VP spot on their ticket if you will take it. The vast majority of their party activists and organizers want you. The infusion of energy your supporters will bring to that party will bring light to all you and they have worked for in a way that your mere endorsement will not.

The bigger story is that by my simply posting the link to our teleconference in our Private Alaskans for Ron Paul 2012 groups, and one post on the Lawyers for Paul group, I set off a firestorm. Word grew exponentially in just one day.

Our teleconference room was filled to capacity (1,000), with 1800+ people participating. It was live streamed and listened to by another 1,100 people on just one internet channel, and it was live streamed elsewhere.

Many of your National Delegates and State Activist Leaders were on the call, but also many Libertarians, Democrats, and Independents. This is just the beginning.

The people want you to give us two more months and help spread the message of liberty. There are of course concerns by some (particular those running for office), but there is a commitment by most to keep working in the Republican Party, and to do everything they can to convince you to run. My incoming email is more than I can handle, and our best Alaskan delegates and activists are working right now to put in new infrastructure and speed up the communication.

You will see an immense wave of support in the coming days this week.

The Libertarian Party needs to hear from you soon, if this will work.

I can put you or your people in touch with them.

We NEED you not to give up. It’s not about winning the election, it’s about spreading the message of Liberty. If you will but give us two more months, you will magnify your life’s work and reach the largest audience yet. You will electrify your supporters and send an important message to those who would suppress fair participation in all parties. Your joining the Libertarian ticket will instantly get the polling up high enough that you will be included in the nationally televised debates. And we will bring tens of millions of dollars quickly to their struggling campaign. They are under attack by the Romney Campaign, trying to strip them of ballot access in several states, but they are in the very strongest position for your run…and your joining them will bring the support they need.

Besides, on the off chance that you actually win, being VP is a lot easier than President.

Please let me know what we can do to help convince you. I can send you the most pertinent communications I’ve received, and a link so you can hear our two hour call from last night for yourself. I can send you the call logs to prove I’m telling the truth.

We will keep trying to win your support for our support, Dr. Paul, We’ve worked too hard to quit now.

And remember, Miracles do happen! The Berlin Wall came down in a day! The Soviet Empire dissolved without a civil war! Women got the vote!

Everyone around the country tells me the only signs they really see are for Ron Paul. Your grassroots support is so much more than you know, especially if you are not on a Republican ticket.

We all know the risks to our progress in the Republican Party, but that movement won’t stop,
More good than harm will come from your taking this risk,

We need you to stand tall for Liberty sir, just a bit longer, please,

LibertyFest NYC Organizers to Benton: Don’t Even Try It

Most look at the now infamous text to Peter Schiff from Jesse Benton as a one time situation, but not to the LibertyFest NYC organizers.

Last Summer the organizers were going about their regular planning of activities for their yearly event in Manhattan, when they started getting phone calls from their speakers, saying someone contacted them, warning them not to speak. The warning said that LibertyFest wasn’t really a Liberty event, but rather a “9/11 truther” event. The calls being made to the speakers were from a blocked number, so it took awhile for the organizers to pinpoint who was behind the calls.

Lucky for the organizers, one of the speakers had a way around the blocked number feature, and found out exactly who it was. The number belonged to Kelly Owens, a Ron Paul 2012 staff member. Kelly was contacted by the LibertyFest organizers, and she apologized, but would not admit whether or not anyone put her up to it.
The calls stopped, and no meaningful damage done to the event, so end of story.

That was until the organizers saw what happened to Paul Fest nearly a year later, and put two & two together. This appears to be a regular tactic from people within the Ron Paul campaign. Attempt to sabotage popular Liberty events, if they’re not running them.

So why? Why go out of their way to contact speakers in an attempt to hurt these grassroots events? Well interestingly, LibertyFest NYC last year was less than a week before LPAC in Reno, Nevada. For those who remember that event, it was a relatively small crowd for an event that had Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Judge Napolitano, Vince Vaughn, & many other famous names in the Liberty movement. When all was said and done, LPAC and LibertyFest NYC had about the same amount of attendees. Doesn’t look great for ‘Campaign for Liberty’, considering they’re supposed to be this well organized political group, while LibertyFest NYC is run by a few members of the grassroots.

This could be why Jesse Benton contacted Paul Fest speaker(s). They weren’t running it, and didn’t want their event to be overshadowed. Whatever the reason, without a doubt Kelly, Jesse, and whoever else involved, conducted themselves in a shady manner. If you have concerns about their events, contact the organizers personally so you can talk it out. Don’t go behind their backs. This kind of behavior is beneath the Liberty movement, and behavior I doubt Ron Paul would support.

PPP: No Fla. Bump for Romney, Race Dead Heat

Holding the Republican National Convention in Tampa didn't give Mitt Romney that post-convention bump in Florida polls. According to the latest Public Policy Polling poll, the race in the Sunshine State is virtually tied after last week's GOP convention, with President Barack Obama leading Romney 48-47, unchanged from the same poll five weeks ago.

In February of 2012 we noted that this election will come down to non-Party line voters:

It seems that Ron Paul’s often marginalized supporters will be the ones responsible for determining who the next President of the United States will be.

In that situation, at the eleventh hour, will Paul supporters remain steadfastly opposed to voting for another candidate, and by doing so handing the election to Obama? Or, will the prospect of four more years of a President who has lived up to at least one campaign promise – that he will fundamentally change America – be enough to drive them to the polls in support of any republican with a heartbeat?

The answer to this question will be the single determining factor in this year’s Presidential election.

Make no mistake. The Republican Party has made a gross miscalculation by continuing to marginalize the concerns of third-party voters.

This is very bad news for Mitt Romney.

Ron Paul voters, fed up with being treated liked second-hand citizens and extremists by both major political parties, may very well just stay home on November 6th and they’ll take a huge chunk of the popular and electoral vote with them.

The only saving grace Mitt Romney has is that Libertarian and third-party voters absolutely abhor the policies of Barack Obama. Whether this is a powerful enough motivator to get Paul supporters to shift their support to Romney remains to be seen.
