An immigration enforcement activist says federal agents need to step in and immediately arrest and deport an illegal immigrant who has been appointed to a state post in California.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the California Senate Rules Committee has appointed Lizbeth Mateo, a 33-year-old attorney and illegal alien rights activist, to serve on the California Student Opportunity and Access Program Grant Advisory Committee. The committee advises the California State Aid Commission on efforts to increase college access for low-income or what it believes are underserved communities.
Senate President Pro-Tem Kevin de Leon described Mateo as a woman "who at great personal risk has dedicated herself to fight for those seeking their rightful place in this country." In contrast, William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, believes Mateo's rightful place should be back in her home country.
"The first thing that needs to happen is that Immigration and Customs Enforcement go to this woman's home and arrest her and promptly deport her, as our current laws state," he tells OneNewsNow. "That's what needs to happen if our elections and Constitution and laws of the United States are going to mean anything."

Gheen argues that her case needs to be made a priority.

"People all around the world are reading [about] this and [saying to themselves] America's laws and America's borders and America's citizens are all a joke – so we don't have to worry about anything. We can just walk into the United States of America where there is no fear whatsoever of immigration law enforcement."
With such an overt example of someone flouting U.S. immigration laws – as in this case – that's when ICE should step in, says Gheen.
Mateo was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. with her parents when she was 14, according to the Sacramento Bee. Shortly after her appointment to the government post, she was recognized by the Law Professor Blogs Network as "Immigrant of the Day."
