An immigration enforcement activist says Joe Arpaio's entrance into the U.S. Senate race in Arizona will likely allow a pro-amnesty Republican to win the nomination.
The former Maricopa County Arizona sheriff, known for his tough tactics dealing with illegal immigrants, has decided to enter the race to replace retiring Republican Jeff Flake. On Friday, Congresswoman Martha McSally (R) announced that she is also running. Candidate Dr. Kelli Ward, who has been endorsed by Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), welcomes Arpaio into the race. But William Gheen, president of ALIPAC and a longtime supporter of the former sheriff, thinks this is a big mistake.
"It's a disaster," Gheen tells OneNewsNow. "Joe Arpaio is creating a disaster in Arizona [with] his entry against Dr. Kelli Ward, who's already staked out a conservative anti-illegal immigration candidate claim to run for that seat. He will now split the conservative voters, and he is increasing the chances that pro-amnesty Rep. Martha McSally will win the primary."

Gheen says it would have been better for Arpaio to wait.
"If Joe Arpaio wants to be in the Senate, all he needs to do is wait six to twelve months for John McCain to drop out and then run for McCain's old seat," the ALIPAC president suggests.
As of now, he predicts McSally will be the darling of the Republican establishment.
"She's a full-blown amnesty supporter. McSally is the one who will receive the U.S. Chamber of Commerce D.C. insider swamp creature support that is always present in these Senate campaigns," Gheen submits.
