Gheen: Tech giants don't like our message, either

An immigration watchdog has joined the list of conservatives who have a Silicon Valley problem.

President Donald Trump has accused tech giants such as Google of censorship, joining a chorus of conservative opinion writers, activists, and journalists who have cited repeated attempts to silence them.

Trump complained that when he used Google to search for "Trump news," the results CNN and other "fake news media" to promote negative stories against him, while suppressing conservative outlets.

A simple Google image search of "idiot" brings up images of Trump, too, which no might make the Left howl with laughter but also reinforces Trump's complaint of biased and wildly influential tech giants.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, says he agrees with the president's concerns.

"I think the biggest factor in the 2018 midterm elections," Gheen tells OneNewsNow, "is going to be Silicon Valley: Facebook, Twitter, Google."

In particular, says Gheen, ALIPAC has seen its public reach shrink over two years due to "suppression and censorship" from those three corporations, because his organization is hated by the Left for opposing illegal immigration and calls for amnesty.

"They're doing everything they can, he warns, "to push those elections another couple percentage points toward the Democrats through their censorship and abuse of American civil rights."

Congress needs to step in, he adds, and hold the companies accountable for their left-wing bias.

The most powerful lawyer in the US is open to investigating the Silicon Valley giants

    • Attorney General Jeff Sessions is exploring the possibility of an investigation into US tech giants, Bloomberg reported.
    • Sessions will be briefed on September 25 by Republican state attorneys general.
    • Bloomberg reports that Sessions has not yet made his mind up about how to proceed, but that one of the attending attorneys general wants to break up the big tech companies.

There's a little more insight into US Attorney General Jeff Sessions'cryptic announcement that he planned to discuss whether Silicon Valley firms were stifling free speech and competition.

According to Bloomberg, Sessions is, as widely speculated, open to the possibility of an investigation into companies such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter.

Citing two people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported that Sessions will be briefed on September 25 by Republican state attorneys general who have already been scrutinizing social media firms.

Sessions has reportedly not made up his mind yet on an investigation, but at least one attorney general is agitating to break up big tech firms.

Sessions announced he was summoning state attorneys general last week over concerns that tech giants may be infringing antitrust and free speech laws.

This came after President Trump accused Google of instilling left-wing bias into its search results, and subsequently suggested that giant tech companies could represent a "very antitrust situation."

Google dismantled Trump's claims, but a chorus of voices on America's right has grown louder in claiming anti-conservative bias in tech. That chorus appears to be echoing all the way to Washington.

Neither Trump nor Sessions gave any details of monopolistic practices, but Google was recently fined in Europe thanks to its dominance in mobile and online advertising. Facebook has similarly been criticised for monopolising social media by acquiring Instagram and WhatsApp.

Louisiana Attorney General Encourages Jeff Sessions to Break Up Google, Facebook

    7318
AFP20 Sep 20183,475Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry will reportedly encourage Attorney General Jeff Sessions to break up Big Tech companies like Google and Facebook during a meeting next week.

“My opinion is you are not going to fix this legislatively,” declared Landry during a radio interview with News Radio 710 KEEL, in Shreveport. “You are going to have fix this like we always fix monopolies in this country. You are going to have to take an antitrust suit.”
“I think it’s an antitrust issue,” he continued. “I think the companies are too big and they need to be broken up.”

SiliconValley.com reported that Landry “or another high official from his office will next week present the break-up proposal to Sessions.”
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) agrees with Landry. According to the Advocate, Kennedy said, “I agree that the Department of Justice should look at this issue. I’m a free market, private sector guy, but Facebook and Google aren’t companies. They’re countries.” During Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s hearing before the Senate, Sen. Kennedy told him, “your user agreement sucks.”

Sessions will be briefed by state attorney generals on Tuesday, who will “help Sessions decide if there’s a federal case to be made against companies such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. for violating consumer-protection or antitrust laws,” according to Bloomberg.

Both President Trump and his 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale have repeatedly called out Big Tech companies and threatened them with investigation and regulation.

“I think that Google and Twitter and Facebook, they are really treading on very, very troubled territory and they have to be careful,” President Trump declared in August. “It is not fair to large portions of the population.”

The President also claimed the companies were “silencing millions of people,” and suggested they could be in a “very anti-trust situation.”

Parscale likened Big Tech companies to Big Brother from George Orwell’s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, and described them as a “direct threat to a free society,” adding that, “arguably the worst offender is Google.”

It's sad and maddening to see these American companies acting this way. The only way this would or could happen is through a deliberate filtering of the news. Disgusting. So glad to see Trump, Sessions, ALIPAC and many others standing up against these types of discriminatory practices by these greedy and biased companies. Keep up the great work everyone.
