An immigration enforcement organization is getting behind the effort of a 2018 Republican primary challenger who is campaigning to defeat Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) – who has been anything but tough on immigration in the border state.

Flake, who is one of only eight Republican incumbents seeking re-election next year, has often been critical of President Donald Trump. He has also received a tepid “C-“ grade on Numbers USA's immigration enforcement scorecard.

Now, the incumbent faces a Republican primary challenge from Dr. Kelli Ward – a former Arizona state senator who unsuccessfully ran against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2016. In last year’s contest, the incumbent former Republican presidential nominee received 251,731 votes (51.7 percent) to Ward’s 191,065 votes (39.2) percent – a narrow margin, considering McCain’s many years in office.

William Gheen, who serves as president with Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) – which backed Ward last year – says that his group will proudly do so again in 2018.

"Kelli Ward is a true fighter against illegal immigration and amnesty,” Gheen insisted. “And Jeff Flake is an illegal alien amnesty supporter – just like John McCain."

Furthermore, Gheen maintains that Flake was a member of the notorious “Gang of Eight” legislation pushed by Leftist immigration reform activists in 2013.

"The Gang of Eight amnesty bill almost made it to Obama's desk,” Ward pointed out. “Dr. Kelli Ward has not only campaigned against illegal immigration – not only campaigned against the Gang of Eight immigration bill – but she's signed ALIPAC's pledge for our existing immigration and border laws … instead of any form of amnesty that would further compromise that."

Current polls indicate that this seat leans Republican.
