    District Information
Please give a brief description of your district:
IL-8 was a district held by Republican Phil Crane for 35 years until he was defeated by Melissa Bean in 2004. President Bush won the district easily in both 2000 and 2004. President Obama won the district in 2008. It is a center-right district that includes portions of suburban Cook County, Lake County and McHenry County. Rep. Bean has previously portrayed herself as a moderate Democrat in past election cycles. However, this cycle is different as she has voted in lockstep with an Obama administration that is out-of-step with 8th district families. Rep. Bean's votes for the "stimulus" bill, for bank bailouts, for Obamacare, and for cap-and-trade make her vulnerable in this center-right district in this center-right election year in way she has not been in previous election cycles. And independent survey in March found Walsh ahead:

Percentage of Democrat, Republican, and Unaffiliated Voters: The Charlie Cook Voting Index rates IL-8 as a R+1, the best rating of any targeted congressional district in Illinois currently held by a Democrat.

    PLEDGE .
If elected or re-elected to the US Congress, I will oppose any form of Amnesty or path to citizenship for illegal aliens, including Comprehensive Immigration reform which would turn millions of illegal immigrants into voters thus destroying future borders of America. I will use the full power of my office, including impeachment if necessary, to insure the Executive Branch secures America's border immediately and begins to adequately enforce the existing immigration and border laws of the United States, which were enacted by Congress at the behest of America's citizenry. I understand that the failure of the Executive Branch to secure our borders and enforce existing immigration laws is depriv;ng all Americans of a Republican form of governrnent and depriving our states of protection from invasion as mandated by the US Constitution. I intend to use the power of Congress to immediately remedy this problem that is costing many Americans their jobs, wages, taxpayer resources, property, security, and sometimes their very lives.

    So help me God,
    Joe Walsh,
GOP Congressional Nominee - 8th District
