I have a qustion before calling, faxing and e-mailing. Is it appropriate to request congressional action be taken in regards to Senators Feinstein, Craig, Mikulski, Murray, Gregg, and Leahy using a War Bill to promote amnesty, visas and self-interests?

We are at war and the 'vehicle' chosen was a war funding bill in hopes of getting an undetected, smooth ride to passage of their illegal alien and special interest agenda. A good bill stands on its own.

In a democracy the citizens should be told of bills and members of congress should not be using 'vehicles' to pass unrelated amendments via the back door. Citizens shouldn't have to maintain hypervigilance over congressional members. Shouldn't we inform congress this will not be tolerated so don't do it again.

Using the War Bill was sneaky and underhanded and as Abraham Lincoln said: "Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale, and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged."

Called;

Feingold = "No Statement". I asked him to veto the Iraq Spending bill if it comes attached with the H-2B provision.
Leahy= "No Comment". My comments, same as above.
Enzi= "No Official Comment". Does NOT support amnesty ! I added my comments to be passed on RE Thanking him for his stand against any form of amnesty. Asked that the H-2B provision be stripped, and a no vote if that doesn't happen.
Corker= "No Official Statement" Has always opposed amnesty in any form. I reiterated my thnaks for his stand against amnesty, and asked that the H-2B provision be stripped.

I may not have been on in a while but I have been very active. I am thrilled that we have succeeded. I just called Tom Coburn's office in D.C. and they stated that they are as of now drafting up a letter to remove H-2B! They heard us loud and clear and Inhofe's phone is experiencing high volume so I had to leave a message. I also gave them a HUGE thanks for listening to their constituents. I told the man at Coburn's office that Feinstein thought the Americans were too stupid to know what she was trying to do and now the joke is on them. He laughed and agreed with me.

Man, I am so pumped. So, continue sending me updates like you already do, because along with ALIPAC'S emails and my other emails, they keep me on my toes. Thanks!

I like it ! I don't have the answer, but with confimation, I'll certainly back this in any way I can. You made some really good points. It's past time some one called them on their "behind closed door tactics".....stealth is another term that applies. There's just one reason for them to do that, and that's to fool the American people, and possibly some of the Senators as well, since they don't always have time to read the proposals. In this case, they possibly sabotaged a legitimate bill that should have moved forward. Shameful !!

If the AgJOBS amnesty weren’t bad enough, the Senate Appropriations Committee also attached more bad immigration measures.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) increased H2B visas. These go to unskilled foreigners who take jobs in nonagricultural fields. They’re popular with resorts, landscaping, restaurants and hotels.

Mikulski exempted from the yearly H2B cap of 66,000 any visaholders from the previous three years. By the third year, that could translate into some 400,000 unskilled foreigners taking low-end American jobs. They’ll compete directly with the most vulnerable American workers, and our teens and college students needing to get started on the first rungs of the career ladder, where they learn basic job skills.

zeezil do you have any information about: An amendment authored by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) that grants a 5-year extension to a program that helps wealthy investors get green cards. Was this amendment indeed also attached to the War Spending Bill?

This is confusing--how many immigration-related amendments are/were attached? Guess the safest approach is to request all immigration-related amendments be detached from the Iraq War Spending Bill.

Information at FAIR lists 4 attached amendments.

1.) Feinsten and Craig's AgJob
2.) An amendment authored by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) that will dramatically expand the number of unskilled H-2B guest workers entering the U.S. each year;
3.) An amendment authored by Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) that will make approximately 218,000 more green cards available for multinational executives and so-called "highly skilled workers" by "recapturing" visas from as far back as 1994; and
4.) An amendment authored by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) that grants a 5-year extension to a program that helps wealthy investors get green cards.

As a Marylander let me say that the Crab Industry on the Eastern Shore is totally dependent on H2B visas. Young people out of school will no longer work in the industry as they used to when I was a kid. I know that Sen. Mikulski put in the amendement to prevent the total collapse of the Maryland Crab industry.

However, I think the bill should be modified to cap to totally of H2B visas that can be in the country at any one time and also to block them from bringing family members who can then of course create anchor babies.

IN the case of the H2B workers in Maryland Crab Industy I know for a fact that they only come for about 4-5 months -- live near the area where the crabs are processed and then go back. The same people have been coming for years now and Sen. Mikulski wanted to create legislation to allow these same worker to return to employers on the Eastern Shore.

I think that is the useful purpose of H2B but I think the category gets abused by allowing too many in at any one time -- too long a duration, bringing family members and allowing them to take educations courses. Looks up H2B - there is a lot that needs to be changed in that visa. But it works for people who are needed for 4-5 months and then go home.

So I think this bill needs some modifications. :!:

Let one in one week you get 10 of the family,
let them in for 5 months, you still get the family

wage slaves for one day is evil, a wage slave for 5 months is only

I don't buy it. it is more due to the fact that these, and many other job avenues, have been closed off to America's young people by business targeting the cheapest, most exploitable labor possible. That would be illegal aliens and legals (foreigners) they've wedged into H-2B visas. Young people are also constantly being told by business "leaders", the media, schools, etc., that there is work that they 'just don't wan't to do' so only illegal aliens, foreigners, etc. should be doing it.

There never has been a problem with visa overstays in the Eastern Shore Crab industry. I know it is a big problem in other parts of the country, but not on the Eastery Shore. You have the overstays in the hotel, landscape and hospitality industry. The ones on the Eastern Shores have been coming for years -- same people every year. They always go home and have no desire to live in the US -- just want to make the extra money and go back home.

But once the area turned into a leisure ground for DC weekends -- many of these families could no longer afford live in the area -- it got too expensive. They have moved and what replaced them has little interest in the crab industry.

This is happening a lot in rural America -- it is turning into suburbia for big city residents who price the locals out of living. Wherever this is happening you find that kids no longer want to do the sort of jobs kids used to be happy to do -- affluent families make sure they don't need to.

You're painting with quite a broad brush here:
1.) All the familes on the Eastern shore are affluent
2.) Parents don't want their kids to work in local industries
3.) Kids don't want to work in local industries
4.) There is no outreach by local industry to local residents
5,) The only solution to local industries is to hire foreign workers

I was thinking about your crab shuckers because it is a seasonal job. Just because they don't stay in your area after shucking seasons, doesn't necessarily mean they went back home. They just move inland or onto another locations to do another seasonal job.

That's the problem, not going home after the "seasonal job" ends. The big lie in the bill. Bring them in as visa holder and never make them leave or make sure they leave.

Unless and until our government can insure they leave, we should be allowing additional visa programs. Since about 40% of the illegal aliens are visa overstays because the punishment is a civil immigration offense.

We need to increase the punishment for visa overstays but at the same time leave it a civil offense for many wise and good reasons.

I just know a lot of this from having lived in the area and having watched it change. When you live in an area you can see the demographic changes aand the families who leave the area and be replaced by McMansions-- you see the docks what used to whole crab boats filled with motor launches and expensive yachts. It really only takes two eyes to see the changes in the country of the Eastern Shore. When I was kid a family used to go to the Eastern Shore, catch crabs and have a picnic with roasted corn from a local farmer. You don't see that any more -- it is all in the past. The new crowd roar around the Chesapeake Bay with motor speed boats etc.

As for the H2B workers -- that has been quite well documented in the local press, how they come for the crab season and then return. Most of them are fisherman in their home country. You can't sneak across the border and work in the crab industry - you have to have fishing experience. They hhave been using H2B for decades now.

It used to be a much smaller program and very few people were in it. It is really under Bush that is has mushroomed in size and scope. It started out very small and manageable but it is now out of control. As I say it now includes categories of workers never originally in the program. At its inception it was a small manageable program that brought in relatively few workers. Now all sorts of new categories have been added to the program and it had spun out of control.

The problem is that with the current non enforcement and under enforcement of our existing immigration laws, no American would believe that new visa holders entering the US would ever be required to leave!

The city/county/state has created a big money tax base and big government to go with it. If the community provided affordable housing, you wouldn't need to import foreign labor to shuck crab. They have created an imbalance in the community. I'll bet 30 years ago, the crab shuckers lived in the community and were not foreigners. They have been pushed out and replaced. When a McMansion goes up in your neighborhood, they raise your taxes to the point you can't afford to pay them and another McMansion rises up on your former property. And the city/county smiled and let them do it calling it community development. :roll:

You are right the crab shuckers lived in the community and working shucking crabs was part of the way of life to the area. And now they drove all the locals away and need H2B workers -- These communities are now too expensve for local crab shuckers to live in. This has happened all ove the country.

Just because you oppose something does mean you have to be rude to the staffer. If you want to talk to the opposition you cant rant and foam at the mouth -- you have to be rational and positive. Explain why you oppose the legislation in a logical fashion and why you plan to lobby against it. Just shouting and screaming at them gives us all a bad name as lobbyists.

I called Senator Mikulski's office and spoke to a staffer. I politely explained what I did not like about the legislation and why I opposed it. I made suggestions for improvements in the legislation while still helping Maryland Crab industry. The staffer said he would pass on my concerns to the Senator and thanked me for calling.
