    ALIPAC Supporters:

We have just discovered that Immigration and Customs Enforcement tipped off both Swift & Co. meat packing and the illegal aliens before the raids.

Who knows how many illegal aliens and identity thieves escaped!

Please circulate this information far and wide. Please get on the ball to fight the PR war with the media that is trying to make the illegal aliens look like the victims instead of Americans.

That doesn't surprise me. Can't think of any time a company wasn't pre-warned about anything.

    Swift fired 400 before raids

By M.E. Sprengelmeyer, Rocky Mountain News
    December 13, 2006
WASHINGTON — Immigration raids at Swift & Co. plants netted 1,282 suspected illegal immigrants in Colorado and across the country on Tuesday, but the number might have been higher if the company had not terminated about 400 employees for document-related reasons during the preliminary investigation, federal officials said at a press conference Wednesday.
"We regretted they took that action without talking to us," said Julie L. Myers, Assistant Secretary for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Myers and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Swift & Co., one of the country's biggest meat processors, generally cooperated in the months leading up to raids Tuesday on six plants around the country, including one in Greeley, Colo., and others in Texas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Utah.

After federal officials began investigating reports that large numbers of Swift employees might be working using names and matching Social Security numbers that were not their own, the company reportedly conducted its own review this fall, Chertoff said. He said it resulted in 400 employees being terminated without investigators being notified.

"We do wish they would have talked to us before deciding to terminate those individuals," Myers said.

Homeland Security officials said the 400 terminations happened primarily at one of the six targeted plants, although they would not reveal which one.

According to figures released Wednesday morning, the vast majority of Tuesday's arrests were for administrative immigration violations. There also were 65 criminal arrests for alleged criminal felonies.

At the Greeley plant, there were a total of 261 arrests, including 11 for criminal charges and 250 for administrative immigration charges.

The most arrests, 295, took place at a plant in Cactus, Texas, followed by 261 in both Greeley and Grand Island, Neb., 230 in Worthington, Minn., 145 in Hyrum, Utah, and 90 in Marshalltown, Iowa.

"We asked the company not to reveal we were coming in advance," Chertoff said.

Swift officials apparently knew that a massive, nationwide raid was imminent, and in late November it fought unsuccessfully in a Texas court to try to win a preliminary injunction blocking the raids.

This didn't surprise me at all. I remember reading other news articles about ICE giving advance notice whenever they do a workplace operation. They give the advanced notice to the company that they are inspecting, and I would would think quite often to the local police forces in the area, to get backup support.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but maybe the advanced notice stemmed from a lawsuit in the past. Just a thought.
