CULPEPER, Va (ABC7) — Two Culpeper cops have tested positive for the coronavirus after a "hands-on" takedown and arrest of a twice-deported domestic assault suspect who was carrying the COVID-19 virus, according to authorities.
The scene unfolded during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 28 when the two officers, along with another officer, responded to an alleged domestic violence assault in progress.
Police say they found the suspect actively assaulting a female in a residence who then ignored all verbal commands, resulting in a "hands-on" arrest of the suspect.
As the suspect was being medically cleared to enter the Culpeper County Jail, it was found that he was positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Just a few days later on May 2, the two officers involved in the "hands-on" arrest both tested positive for COVID-19.
The suspect was released from the Culpeper Juvenile Domestic and Relations Court later on April 28 on an unsecured bond and is no longer allowed to have contact with the victim or permitted to be at the residence.
According to United States Customs and Enforcement (ICE), the suspect has been deported from the United States twice.
