A playful and humorous country music song about the issue of illegal immigration has quickly gained popularity on the Internet and many regional radio stations. The song "So Long Texas! Hello Mexico" has captured the attention of many Americans who identify with the songs message of a cowboy that decides to illegally immigrate to Mexico.
"We have been amazed at how much interest this song has generated," says Johnny Bradshaw who sings the vocals for Johnny Tex and the Texicans. "We are happy the song is finding a wider audience and appreciate the amount of positive response the song is generating."
Fans of the song and immigration enforcement activists are sending copies of the song to country music stations across America with requests for stations to play it for their listeners. The band has set up a new website at www.JohnnyTex.com where visitors can hear the song, read about how the song was written and recorded, and order copies.
"This song has captured the interest of listeners across the country because people can identify with its message from coast to coast," says William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. "Illegal immigration is the top issue in America right now and this song expresses many of the concerns of the public in a humorous way."
The song was written by longtime songwriter Rita Jones and was inspired by George Strait’s “The Seashores of Old Mexico” The song imagines a Texas cowboy heading south of the border after illegal immigration has made his home state unrecognizable. Much like American citizens across the nation, this cowboy has the illegal immigration blues and leaves the US to demand equal rights, bilingual services, and free education and health care in Mexico.
The song was recently featured on the CNN website of Lou Dobbs.
Talk radio hosts, country music stations, and members of the media are encouraged to share information about this song with the public and to play the song for their listeners.
