YouTube Reverses Ban on Illegal Immigration Fighting Group

"After taking another look, we can confirm that it is not in violation of our Terms of Service"

Even though Americans for Legal Immigration PAC had not yet appealed the unexpected and unwarranted ban of the national organization's account on YouTube last Thursday, YouTube sent an email at 10:30pm Eastern on Sunday night saying the account was reviewed and restored and that no violations of community guidelines were found.

While ALIPAC's account is back up, it is still being shadow banned by Google/YouTube to prevent many people from finding the videos and the account is blocked from live streaming, monetization, or running ads to promote content.

ALIPAC attributes this ban reversal to media inquiries about the ban in response to the group's March 11 press release, "YouTube Bans National Amnesty Opposing Org's Channel" (view)

"We want to thank all those on our national press contact list who attempted to contact Google/YouTube to inquire about this unfair and unwarranted censorship of our account, which took place just as we are rallying our activists to fight Amnesty bills in DC," said William Gheen, spokesman of ALIPAC.us "We are glad the account is back up now and will accelerate our plans to move copies of all of our videos over to our BitChute account where they don't discriminate and censor."

Here is what YouTube said about ALIPAC's YouTube Channel on March 11:

Hi ALIPAC,

We have reviewed your content and found severe or repeated violations of our Community Guidelines. Because of this, we have removed your channel from YouTube.

We know this is probably very upsetting news, but it's our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all. If we think a channel severely violates our policies, we take it down to protect other users on the platform - but if you believe we've made the wrong call, you can appeal this decision. You'll find more information about the policy in question and how to submit an appeal below.

What our policy says

Content glorifying or inciting violence against another person or group of people is not allowed on YouTube. We also don't allow any content that encourages hatred of another person or group of people. We review educational, documentary, artistic, and scientific content on a case-by-case basis. Limited exceptions are made for content with sufficient and appropriate context and where the purpose of posting is clear.

This is what YouTube wrote on March 14 when restoring the account ALIPAC1 :

Hi ALIPAC,

We’re pleased to let you know that we’ve recently reviewed your YouTube account, and after taking another look, we can confirm that it is not in violation of our Terms of Service. We have lifted the suspension of your account, and it is once again active and operational.

We’d like to thank you for your patience while we reviewed this case. Our goal is to make sure content doesn't violate our Community Guidelines so that YouTube can be a safe place for all - and sometimes we make mistakes trying to get it right. We hope you understand, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience or frustration this has caused.

ALIPAC plans to write them back to thank them for restoring the account and acknowledging that no rules were broken and also to request that the other censorship methods applied to the account be removed as well.
