That's what the Dems are hoping for. And as a Dem, I'm sorry to say you're right, more Dem public officials support Amnesty than Republicans.

The problem is that too many Dem/Rep public officials are pro illegal immigration, so there isn't a choice (at least with someone who can actually win).

Tom Tancredo would make for a very interesting presidential race but he knows that as an independent candidate he will be marginalized as Anderson was. His illegal immigration views will really make the establishment want to silence him.

His pluses are that he's a battle hardened candidate, might be able to raise at least a few million (not enough to win, but still speak out), and has proved that he's willing to fight hard for his convictions. The immigration issue oriented activists across the US would also serve as a start to organizing nationally. He would still be a very dark horse candidate but may improve the size of his soap box and reach of his beliefs on immigration.

My guess is that he will decide not to run. When was the last time a member of the US House, went from the US House to President? Usually the President is a former Governor or Senator, not House member.
