How Can We Pay to Send them Back if We Can’t Even Ask?

That $250 million Obama wants to give to countries shoving their kids, including unaccompanied toddlers, across our borders to “take them back” is the biggest line of crap yet. Why? Because Obama is actively blocking the efforts to stop the flood!
Being his usual disingenuous self, Obama says he’s sending the kids back, but then blocks the Border Patrol from doing so by not allowing them to question those who come to pick the kids up. Here’s what is happening. When a child crosses the border illegally they are asked if they have a family member in the US. Under the law, immigration officials can release the children into the custody of parents who are legal residents. Under rules handed down by the current administration, border patrol agents aren’t allowed to even ask the person picking the child up if they are a legal resident.
Obama appointees have changed the policy from identify and deport if the parents are illegal to a goal of “family unification” where agents are forbidden from asking legal status. The kicker is that if our laws were enforced, i.e. those picking up their child are asked to prove legal status and deported if they aren’t here legally, it would be a giant disincentive to those who keep smuggling children into our country. Jessica Vaughan, policy director at the Center for Immigration Studies, has talked about the frustration that agents feel at this policy problem. She stated that immigration officers “know what an effect it has on deterring the smuggling, they’ve asked to do it, but they’ve been told no, and that’s why the career personnel are so frustrated.”
An example? A June 21 CNN article described how two illegals, one named “Ana,” used a relay of coyotes, border agents and employees at the Department of Health and Human Services to deliver their two children from El Salvador to Lo Angeles. They arranged for the coyotes to smuggle them in. Two weeks later immigration officials called Ana and told her they had her children in custody. A month after that, they flew them to LA and Ana picked them up ad LAX.
Another good question from that story would be, DHHS can find the parents here illegally to reunite them with their kids who are also now here illegally, but they can’t manage to find them and deport them? Really?
A better question would be why we, the citizens of this country, keep allowing Obama to rewrite, and contravene our laws whenever it suits him. Last time I read the Constitution, it said CONGRESS wrote and amended laws. Pesky separation of powers…
Unless and until we start making the consequences of breaking our immigration laws harsher than the unpleasantness of getting here the flood of illegals will never stop.
