WASHINGTON — Businessman Donald Trump held on to his frontrunner status in the crowded race for the Republican presidential nomination in a poll released Thursday showing retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson as his strongest challenger.

Trump received 26 percent and Carson 22 percent in a Fairleigh Dickinson University (Teaneck, NJ) survey of registered Republicans. None of the other candidates was in double figures.

Gov. Chris Christie was in ninth place with 3 percent. That's the minimum he needs to average in order to sit at the main table in the Oct. 28 CNBC debate at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

"Among Republicans, this is clearly an outsider's game so far," said Krista Jenkins, a professor of political science and director of FDU's PublicMind. "The fact that Trump and Carson, two personalities who are better known for their business and medical acumen, are polling so well reflects the frustration that Republican voters seem to have toward the political system."

It's so true! They really don't know what to say when they're asked a question which is why they give the stupidest answers, usually with lies because they don't know enough to tell the truth about anything.
