SAN DIEGO — Hundreds of anti-Trump protesters clashed with hundreds of law enforcement officers and chanted “F**k Donald Trump, and f**k the police” as they were being cleared from the streets.



Some two hours after presidential candidate Donald Trump was done speaking to a rally at the San Diego Convention Center, law enforcement officers used loudspeaker equipment to tell protesters that the demonstrations were being declared an, “unlawful assembly.”



“I command all those assembled at 500 Harbor Drive to immediately disperse. You may move to L Street East. If you do not do so you will be arrested. If you refuse to move, chemical agents and other weapons will be used.”



The message came first in English, and then a message was given in Spanish. The message was repeated several times, including once from what seemed to be the helicopter hovering above.



Nevertheless, the anti-Trump protesters remained, flooding the streets and refusing to move. Scores of law enforcement moved in with what appeared to be an organized plan to contain and move the protesters away from the area.

After a considerable amount of time and effort from law enforcement, the crowd moved, but not before many climbed on street lights and other sidewalk objects, and taunted the officers.

At one point protesters began yelling, “Hey hey, ho ho, Donald Trump has got to go.” As they were continually moved out ,protesters could be heard repeating “F**k Donald Trump and f**k the police.”



Several protesters were taken into custody in the course of the several hours of protests. At times, altercations broke out between antagonistic protesters and law enforcement. Scores of signs used slurs in reference to the presumptive GOP nominee, including a particularly hostile one that suggested that Trump would die by the hands of “the cartel” within a week if elected President of the United States.

This is the second anti-Trump protest in three days. His rally in New Mexico on Tuesday turned violent as protesters toppled barricades and threw rocks.

Hundreds of Donald Trump supporters and protesters clashed outside an election rally of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in San Diego as police in riot gear and wielding batons arrested 35 people in the second scuffle in three days to hit his campaign.

People from both sides screamed at each other and threw water bottles, as the police tried to control the situation, firing pepper-balls.

The clash between pro and anti-Trump groups occurred after the Republican leader ended his speech in San Diego in the western California state on Friday, with several people throwing stones and plastic bottles, some that hit police officers.

Police were deployed in riot gear as the billionaire from New York addressed a massive rally at a convention centre.

After issuing orders to the crowd of roughly 1,000 to disperse, police began forcefully and aggressively pushing protesters – who were waving Mexican flags and holding anti-Trump signs – checking them with their batons. Some protesters also scaled barriers, according to reports.

At least 35 people were arrested, police said, adding that no property damage was reported and no injuries were reported.

“Crowd behaviour has become unlawful. An unlawful assembly has now been declared. It is illegal to remain in the area,” the San Diego Police said in a situational update, adding its forces would be deployed till late in the night.

Later, Trump appreciated the police for handling the “thugs”. “@SanDiegoPD- Fantastic job on handling the thugs who tried to disrupt our very peaceful and well attended rally. Greatly appreciated!” he tweeted.

At his rally, Trump also responded to US President Barack Obama’s comments a day ago that world leaders are rattled by his campaign rhetoric and assured his supporters that he would get along well with foreign leaders.

“I happen to be a nice person, folks. I’ll get along great. I will get along so great with these countries. I will get along so great,” Trump told thousands of his supporters.

“He (Obama) said today that our trading partners and countries that we have relationship with, they’re rattled. I said, “Yay, oh, that’s so good.”, Trump said.

Someone grabbed a man’s “Make America Great Again” hat and burned it, according to San Diego Tribune.

Officers in helmets, masks, pads and with long wooden batons massed in lines, then moved slowly toward the unruly protesters. By evening, police had managed to move and disperse the crowd, and few were left, the daily reported.

Trump was in the city near the Mexican border to hold a rally ahead of the 7 June California primary and in his San Diego rally pledged to build a border wall to keep out illegal immigrants.

This is the second anti-Trump protest in three days. His rally in New Mexico on Tuesday turned violent as protesters toppled barricades and threw rocks, burning T-shirts and plastic bottles at police officers, injuring several people.

Earlier on Friday in Fresno, Trump denied that there was a major drought affecting the state, saying instead that when he becomes president he will “start opening up the water”.

“Great rally in Fresno, California- great crowd! Thank you!” he said in another tweet.

At the San Diego rally, Trump said the US under his presidency would start winning again.

“Every single country no matter what — name a country — we lose. We don’t win anymore. We’re going to start winning. We’re going to win with trade. We’re going to win with our military. We’re going to start winning again,” he said amidst applause.

Trump alleged that the countries like Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea, who are being protected by the US are not paying money.

“Then you look at the NATO countries — 28 total, many of them aren’t living up to their obligations,” he said. “They have been abusing us. They have been abusing us. This isn’t 40 years ago when we could have done whatever we want.”

Continuing with his criticism of Hillary Clinton, Trump said the Democratic presidential frontrunner and former secretary of state is a “very boring” speaker.

“I watched Hillary Clinton last night, which was hard to do because she’s a very boring speaker,” he said.

“I will not say because it’s not politically correct and it’s not a nice thing to say, so I will not say that she shouts into the microphone and it drives everybody crazy. So I won’t say that.

“But I found it very hard to watch. And then she lies. Now, you know, I called somebody a liar, but I don’t say that anymore because that person is now in the past. I say that person is in the past.

And with Hillary, we say “Crooked Hillary,” he said.

“But I’ve got to add another word because I never saw anything like this last night. She was saying that “I want Japan to arm with nuclear weapons.” I never said that. She was saying, “I love the dictator in North Korea.” I don’t love the dictator — bad guy, OK? Bad guy.

“She was saying all sorts of things so bad, and so false, total lies. And we’re not going to let her get away with it. We’re not going to let her get away,” Trump asserted.

“Take a look at what’s going on with our military that we love. We can’t beat ISIS. We’re going to beat ISIS. We’re going to beat them quickly. We’re going to knock the hell out of them. We shouldn’t have been there in the first place, but we’re going to knock the hell out of them. And we have to rebuild our country,” he said.

Donald Trump's rallies in Fresno and San Diego - the latter just 15 miles from where his proposed wall on the US-Mexico border will stand if he wins the White House - were met with violent clashes between police, supporters and protesters Friday.

Inevitably, things got out of hand: Pepper spray got in eyes, cops jostled crowds with their batons and riot cops pulled people to the ground. At least two people were arrested in Fresno for not complying with police orders.

In San Diego, police moved into the Gaslamp district at about 4.40pm to break up what they said was an unlawful gathering, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Trump had already left the area about ten minutes before, but the crowds weren't going anywhere at first.

As officers in riot gear entered the area, they announced in both English and Spanish that people needed to disperse. And as protesters and supporters began to swirl, small street-fights broke out among them.

At t least 35 people were arrested. San Diego Police confirmed there was no damage to property and no injuries as a result of the protest.

Earlier, during Trump's speech, protesters were filmed throwing objects at police, and one man was pushed back into the crowd by cops after trying to climb up to a police-secured location.

The police had gained control of the area by 6pm, the paper reported.

Demonstrators and supporters at Trump's Fresno speech earlier in the day were fewer in number, but no less feisty.

While Trump denied that California was suffering droughts, saying water was being pumped out to sea 'to protect a certain kind of three-inch fish' - a reference to the Delta smelt, an endangered fish supported by environmentalists - protesters outside chanted and waved signs.

Before leaving, Trump promised his crowd that he would 'opening up the water so that you can have your farmers survive, so that your job market will get better.'

Afterward, crowds clashed with police, and two were arrested for failing to disperse.

Phalanxes of flag-bearing activists marched. Some hoisted Mexico's colors, while others flew banners from Chile, Cuba, Venezuela and elsewhere in the Spanish-speaking world.

One protester waved a Trump piñata from the end of a wooden pole. Another brandished a poster featuring Trump's likeness and a pair of swastikas.

The protest zone was a sea of on-again, off-again tumult.

For minutes at a time the agitation dimmed to a dull roar, stippled with haphazard chants of 'F*** Donald Trump!'

Then a group of bandanna-masked activists tried to scale a barricade wall.

Police in riot gear pushed back with arms, shields and batons. One officer used his stick like a pool cue, jabbing anti-Trump forces back onto their side of the divide.

The chant changed: 'F*** the police!' rang out across the concrete plaza populated mostly by ranks of armed men, numbering about 300.

Reports emerged of rocks and bottles being hurled at officers. Police did little more than keep the activists in check.

Their task would change as Trump's speech concluded, more than 10,000 people inside tried to leave, and the 'Dump Trump' forces became more urgent.

One protest contingent, about 50-strong, chanted: 'We didn't cross the border! The border crossed us!'

The man leading the yelling wore a shirt that read: 'Make America Mexico Again.'

That was a hat-tip to the 'Aztlan' movement, which seeks to hand the entirety of the Southwestern United States to the nation of Mexico as 'reparations' for annexing American states that were one occupied by Indian tribes.

Trump, who wrapped up the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday, has angered Latino activists by claiming from the beginning of his campaign that Mexico's government has sent some of its worst criminals – 'murderers and rapists' – to the north, where they blend in with other migrants who sneak into the US illegally.

Southern California is a particularly volatile seat of the discontent that stemmed from those remarks, and from his pledge to wall off America from Mexico in a bid to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs.

The tension inspired by Trump's appearance grew in intensity because California is one of several Democratic-dominated states that Trump has pledged to contest in the fall, forcing Hillary Clinton and the Democrats to expend resources to hold ground they consider to be theirs exclusively.

The last time California's electoral votes went to a Republican presidential candidate was 1988.

'No other Republican would say this, but we are going to play for California,' Trump said as he took the stage Friday afternoon.

'We are going to win California! You watch!'

'Really, we are going to win the state of California,' he pledged, moments before promising to 'knock the hell out of ISIS,' the terror army ravaging Syria and Iraq.

'People are tired of the Hillary Clintons of the world,' he said. 'It's all talk, no action. It's "Crooked Hillary," it's the same stuff, and our country cannot take another four years of Obama. That's what you're going to get.'

'We're gonna build a wall,' he promised, pointing to a sign waved by a Hispanic woman near the stage.

'Latinos for Trump!' he read. 'I love it!'

'No other Republican would say this, but we are going to play for California,' Trump said as he took the stage Friday afternoon. 'We are going to win California! You watch!'

'I really love when they put up Latinos for Trump! Latinos. We're going to do great with Latinos because I’m going to bring back jobs.'

'We're going to bring back jobs like we haven’t seen in this country for many, many decades,' he predicted.

Police sources said Trump was brought into the convention center via a back-door route that didn't require his motorcade to cross the protest site at all.

While he and his traveling press corps made their way in from the airport – following a mid-morning rally in Fresno – former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin warmed up the crowd.

Trump, she said, 'blew the lid off the corrupted and corroded machine' of American politics with his unconventional presidential bid.

'He was like a golden wrecking ball. He wrecked what needed to be wrecked,' she said.

And like Trump would do later, Palin took shots at the 'mainstream media.'

'Media, you know – their head is still a-spinnin',' Palin declared. 'What you have tried to do to Donald Trump and to all of his supporters has only proven that we were right.'

'Do you know how thoroughly distrusted you are, mainstream media? Well, he is now, though – he is now "we the people's" nominee.'
'So suck it up, cupcake.'

Trump spoke for an hour and took continued to take shot after shot at Hillary Clinton, as he had done earlier in the day in Fresno.

'Hillary is missing 30,000 emails,' he said, noting the tens of thousands of messages from her private server that she had deleted before turning the balance over to the State Department.

'I have people who will retrieve those emails,' he claimed. 'What Hillary did is criminal.'

He also defended himself against charges of sexism from Barbara Res, the glass ceiling-shattering construction chief who turned on him decades after he awarded her the job of building Trump Tower.

Trump recalled the episode that got him into trouble with the feminist Res – a moment that she related to The New York Times.

'I said to her, "Maybe you shouldn't eat that piece of candy",' he remembered, adding a faux look of shock at the pronouncement that Res interpreted as a slight on her personal appearance.

'That's a little different than Bill Clinton, maybe,' Trump said, drawing guffaws.

'We are so politically correct, folks,' he said. 'Our country is dying from within.'

Earlier that day Trump uncorked a new threat in Clinton's direction, hinting that he might recycle his most devastating nickname for a Republican primary opponent - 'Lyin' Ted' - to describe her.

'Lyin' Ted', 'Low-energy Jeb' and 'Little Marco' were among the G-rated epithets Trump applied to his GOP rivals. He has clobbered Vermont Sen Bernie Sanders - Clinton's last remaining co-combatant - as 'Crazy Bernie'.

Trump also routinely calls the former secretary of state 'Crooked Hillary'. But that nickname could be the first of several, after she attacked him on Thursday over his foreign policy pronouncements.

'When I watched her speech last night, it was so sad because everything she said was, like, a lie!' he said, reflecting on the Democratic front-runner's rally in San Jose, California, on Thursday.

'I wonder if I could start, instead of saying "Crooked Hillary", which is a very accurate description,' he asked a rally audience of thousands in Fresno, California, on Friday. 'I wonder if I could say - you know, remember "Lyin', Lyin'" - I won't say "Lyin' Ted".

'I refuse to say "Lyin' Ted",' he declared, launching into a reprise of the riff that made Texas Sen Ted Cruz's supporters cringe on a regular basis until he quit the race following the Indiana primary.

'Lyin' Ted! Holds that Bible high, puts it down and then he lies. Lyin' Ted!' Trump boomed as his supporters roared at the flashback.

'Well, I'm going to retire that from Ted. I'm not going to call Ted that anymore.'

'She lies so much,' he complained during the hour-long Fresno speech, reciting a litany of Clinton's statements that he saw as untrue.

'And she was saying last night so many things: "Donald Trump wants to see Japan get nuclear weapons". I never said that.'

'"Donald Trump wants to see Germany get nuclear weapons. He wants to see South Korea arm themselves and get nuclear [weapons]". I didn't say that. I never even said close to that.'

'''Donald Trump loves North Korea. He loves the maniac that's running North Korea'",' he continued, mocking Clinton before shaking his head with disgust: 'Yeah, I love him.'

'Now this is a little funny, though,' she added. 'He praised Kim Jong-un, and the North Korean ambassador to the UN came out yesterday and said they don't want to talk to Donald Trump.'

Trump had said in an interview with Reuters that he would be willing to open nuclear arms talks with the North Korean dictator.

'I would speak to him, I would have no problem speaking to him,' he said, articulating a position that is at odds with current American policy.

It was North Korea's ambassador to the United Kingdom, not the United Nations, who later dismissed the idea as 'the dramatics of a popular actor'.

Trump has also said he aims to extract payments from Japan, Germany and other nations that are protected by American military deployments, adding that such countries could be encouraged to develop their own weapons programs if they didn't want to pay - but later insisting he meant it solely as a negotiating tactic.

'She lies so much,' he said Friday, coming back to his old nickname for Cruz. 'But I can't really use that term because I've already used that term. I don't like to use a term twice.'

'But she lies so much and she's saying all these things, like I respect the kid from Korea! I mean, can you imagine this? That I respect - "I have total respect and like him so much".'

'Hillary is a disaster folks. She has bad judgment,' he added. 'That was said by Bernie Sanders. He's given me a lot of my best lines. I mean, he has given me such great lines on her!'

Trump also renewed his criticism of Clinton following Wednesday's release of a damning report from the State Department's Office of Inspector General, 84 pages of woodshedding that concluded

Clinton failed to report multiple attempts to hack into her private email server while she led America's diplomatic corps.

The report, he said, 'was a real doozy. This was a bad report. This was page after page... _t goes back to judgment and competence. She's not competent.'

'The inspector general – who's a Democrat! – did a big, big number on her,' Trump blared. 'I don't know how she can continue to run, I'll be honest with you. How does she continue to run? How does she continue?'

'We'll see what happens,' he shrugged, referring to a months-long FBI investigation into whether Clinton broke federal laws by allowing reams of classified material to wind up on a homebrew email server she ran out of her home.

'I just don't understand why it's not happening. You know, how long does it take?'

He said the FBI shouldn't wait to act until 'one day before she gets it' or 'two weeks after she gets it,' referring to the Democratic presidential nomination.

'It's almost, we almost don't want that. We want to have it – if it's going to be done, let it be done. And if it's not going to be done, we're going after her verbally because what she did is so wrong.'

Trump's dissection of Clinton's Thursday evening speech ended with him declaring that it was her tone, not her words, that made him switch off his TV.

His Greek-style 'apophasis' - a rhetorical device that allows a speaker to make a point while claiming that the subject is beneath him - made its near daily appearance on the Trump trail.

'I'm not gonna say it, because I'm not allowed to say it, and I want to be politically correct,' the billionaire teased Clinton.

'So I refuse to say that I cannot stand her screaming into the microphone all the time.'

'Actually, that's why I turned it off last night. It wasn't that she was lying about me at every single corner. I just couldn't stand it. I got such a headache! Oh, please.'

'But I won't say it,' he insisted, closing the loop. 'Because we're not allowed to say it.'

'Is that right?' he asked a group of women in the front row, visibly leaning down. 'Was I good in not saying it?'

Donald Trump held a rally in San Diego, Calif. Friday afternoon ahead of The Golden State’s primary in June.

While waiting in line outside, supporters offered local police officers a warm welcome.

The officers couldn’t help but smile.

The San Diego Police Department ramped up security ahead of the rally in light of the violent protests in Albuquerque, N.M., on Tuesday and clashes between protesters and police at a Trump rally in Anaheim, Calif., on Wednesday.

FBI, Secret Service, and local police officers wearing riot gear were seen securing the premises.
