Report: GOP mega-donor Adelson to give Trump up to $100 million
Report: GOP mega-donor Adelson to give Trump up to $100 million

NOW PLAYINGKrauthammer: Spike in murder rates no coincidence
Billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson is reportedly willing to give Donald Trump as much as $100 million for his presidential campaign -- a purported record-setting amount for the wealth casino magnate.
Adelson pledged the amount to Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, during a meeting last week in New York, two GOP sources told The New York Times, which first reported the story.
Trump will indeed need the support. Much of the billionaire businessman’s success in the primary race came from his ability to fund his own campaign and tell voters that he is not beholden to corporate, Wall Street or lobbyists’ interests.
However, his own wealth and small-donor contributions would be no match for those of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic machine behind her if the front-running Clinton becomes Trump’s general election opponent.
Trump has since being declared the presumptive nominee on May 3 met with Washington Republicans to begin coordinating fundraising efforts for his general election bid and those of other Republican candidates on November ballots.
The Times reports that the Las Vegas-based Adelson’s commitment to Trump will result in Adelson scaling back his contributions to congressional Republicans, who are in a tough fight to keep control of the Senate.

Trump says he has already loaned his primary campaign $50 million and would need as much as a $1 billion for a White House bid.
Exactly how Adelson would contribute to Trump’s effort is unclear. But such a large sum would require him, after giving directly to the Trump campaign, to donate through a super PAC because they allow unlimited donations. (Trump so far has been outspoken about the amount of influence super PACs have in politics.)
In 2012, Adelson contributed at least $98 million to Republican efforts, according to a study by ProPublica cited by The Times. But that money went to 34 separate campaigns and groups.
Adelson publically endorsed Trump last week, after having backed Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz’s failed GOP primary bid.

Adelson, who contributed $20 million to Mitt Romney’s super PAC"Restore Our Future," $15 million to Newt Gingrich’s super PAC – which for all intents and purposes kept the disgraced former House Speaker in the presidential primary race and handed the nomination to Romney -- and about $50 million to nonprofit Republican fronts such as Rove’s Crossroads GPS. . .
Adelson also claimed that he was "basically a social liberal," and that his views differed sharply from the Republican Party on a number of issues:
"Number one, I’m supporting stem-cell research." As exemplified by the new Adelson medical research foundation that is funding some stem-cell based science.
"I’m pro choice," he pointed out. . .

Original Republicans are social liberal/fiscal conservative. That's why we're not pro-immigration, because immigration beyond a certain point has a very high fiscal cost. Plus a lot of immigrants have traditions and cultures they bring with them that violate our notions of individual liberty and personal freedom.

Sheldon Adelson Blasts Conservative Amnesty Opponents Ahead of 2016
by
TONY LEE 9 Nov 2014 648
GOP mega-donor and Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is blasting conservatives in the party who are opposed to comprehensive amnesty legislation.
The Washington Post reports that Adelson, who spent nearly $100 million in 2012 and will likely spend a hefty sum in the 2016 GOP presidential primary, “upbraided many in the GOP for their opposition to legalizing millions” of illegal immigrants. He reportedly said that without a “comprehensive overhaul” that would legalize all of the country’s illegal immigrants, the nation would not be “the America that I’m proud to live in.”
Adelson made his remarks while addressing the Israeli American Council (IAC) in Washington, D.C., along with liberal billionaire Haim Saban, a Hillary Clinton ally. This is not the first time that Adelson has lobbied for comprehensive amnesty legislation.
“Let’s start by instituting a process in which all undocumented immigrants receive permits to legally work here,” Adelson wrote in a Politico op-ed earlier this year while the country was facing a flood of illegal immigrant children from South America. “Let’s provide them with the opportunity to get driver’s licenses and bank accounts—simple things that we all take for granted.” He also joined billionaires Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in calling for an unlimited number of high-tech guest-worker visas in a New York Times op-ed.
House Republican leaders have expressed a willingness to work on an immigration bill in the GOP-led Congress, while President Barack Obama, who has vowed to enact executive amnesty by the end of the year, said that he felt time has not run out even on a lame-duck amnesty bill. Conservative opponents of amnesty, citing a nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report, have emphasized that massive amnesty legislation and awarding of guest-worker permits would only lower wages and reduce employment opportunities for U.S.-born Americans and legal immigrants already in the country.

I wrote months ago that this scenario would develop and Trump would have to BACKPEDAL on funding his own campaign. Certainly he is not going to sell one of his magnificent buildings for a White House bid that may or may not come to pass. No concerns here (I expected it as we all should have), other than eventually all of his talk about this subject and how politicians are owned by their donors eventually will have to square somewhere. We know what is costs to run a campaign like this and there was no way this man as shrewd as he is and versed in using other peoples money to get what he wants would lay out his own $$$ to get the White House. He was smart enough to "loan" his campaign the money which if he becomes the GOP nominee, the RNC has to reimburse him due to the status of the funding being a loan. Now, he becomes no different than any other politician with respect to taking money from donors, special interest groups and Super-Pacs. This is coming in waves and he will accumulate a war chest.
I have two concerns here:
1. The biggest single donor in political history has backed all losers. That doesn't sit well with me.
2. How much will Trump have to be "flexible" to win or get to the finish line. This concerns me as well because his position on illegal immigration and the wall are not equal in terms of political support. Building the wall is much easier and will not require the political support of deporting 11M illegals and their families. That is going to be an interesting challenge which I would begin to feel confident in if Trump turned to someone like Sen. Sessions and delegated to him the authority to implement such a program.

I'm sure now that Adelson sees that American Voters want our borders secured, not opened, illegal aliens deported, not legalized, he also sees that now with Trump his money is not wasted on futile causes like trying to buy elections on the slimy tail of pro-immigration. Surely he sees that his former positions were not winning strategies and he might as well have thrown his money down a rat hole.

This is for anyone out there on the subject of mass deportation, does anyone think it will be easy not just to get the political support, but to actually deport illegal immigrant mothers and fathers of birthright children in grade school here?
