    California More Influential In Primaries

    [size=150]Because California moved up thier primary election to Feb 5, the candidates view California as a very important state to win. California has the largest population and will help determine early who stays and who goes. Independents, please remember that you cannot vote for a republican. You can vote for independent and democrat only.

    The AP is reporting that Gov. Schwarzenegger has officially moved our California presidential primary election up FOUR MONTNS, to February 5, 2008. This move puts the largest voting pool in the country in a vastly more influential position than elections cycles of the past.

    Following is an excerpt from the AP report:

    “Now California is important again in presidential nominating politics … and we will get the respect that California deserves,â€

    Yes and even though California is a blue state and categorized as "liberal" Republicans in California are very conservative. I think McCain would have a very difficult time as would Huckleberry. Their stance on immigration won't sit well here, trust me.

    Duncan needs to talk a lot about the fence. That is what won Pat Buchanan 30% of SoCal back in 92.....
    Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

    See you at the signing!!

    Wow, that sucks, especially after Lou Dobbs has been pushing everyone to register as an Independent.

    Shouldn't the whole illegal immigrant issue help Hunter in California? After all, he is the best on the issue and the Republicans in Ca. should know that. The issue certainly helped Brian Bilbray win his district.

    This is what the Official Voter Information Guide says:

    DECLINE-TO-STATE VOTERS
    (Voters not affiliated with a political party)

    If you are registered to vote with a political party, you may only vote at this presidential primary election for the candidates running for office from the party with which you are registered and for and against measures. However, if you did not select a political party when you registered to vote, some of the political parties will allow you to vote for their candidates anyway. If you are not registered with a political party, upon request you can vote a ballot of any political party that has notified the Secretary of State that it will permit deline-to-state registered voters to help nominate their candidates.

    The following political parties are allowing voters who are not registered with a political party to request and vote their party's ballot at the February 5, 2008, Presidential Primary Election:

    * American Independent Party
    * Democratic Party

    You may NOT request more than one party's ballot. If you do not request a specific ballot, you will be given a nonpartisan ballot containing only the names of candidates for nonpartisan offices and the measures to be voted upon at the February 5, 2008, Presidential Primary Election.

    The way that I read this is if you are an Independent you can only vote for an Independent. In order to vote for either Independent or Democrat you have to be either registered with that party or Decline-To-State which party you belong to.

    Yes, we should. I do

    Yes, it also helped Duncan here. I think we will vote for him so long as he plays his cards right. Pat played them right int 1992. 92!! I think Duncan can do it. It just takes the right political strategy. Pat employed it 16 years ago....not just the fence....We'll see how it plays out...

    If you're a 'decline to state' voter in Calif., you cannot vote in the GOP primary but have until January 21 to register as Republican and vote in their primary.
