1 dead, 7 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

One man is dead and at least seven people have been wounded across the city since Friday afternoon.
A 28-year-old man is dead after he was seriously wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said.
He was walking with acquaintances when he was shot in the upper chest in a gas station parking lot in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue after 2 a.m., Chicago Police said.
He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was rushed into surgery and pronounced dead about 5 a.m., police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but would not release his name, pending family notification.
At least seven others have been shot across the city since Friday afternoon.
The most recent shooting happened early Sunday, when a man was shot while driving on the Northwest Side, police said.
The man was driving in the 2100 block of West Fullerton, part of the Logan Square neighborhood, under the Kennedy Expressway about 3 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain in his back, police said. The man, 27, continued driving to the 8900 block of Indiana Avenue, where he notified police.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in “stable” condition, police said.
About 12:30 a.m., a woman was shot in the back on the Far South Side.
The woman, 23, was standing outside at State and 102nd Place, part of the Roseland neighborhood, about 12:30 a.m. when she heard gunfire and realized she had been shot, police said. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was listed in “stable” condition.
Saturday morning, a man was shot in the Austin neighborhood.
The 24-year-old man was shot in the right ankle about 5 a.m. while walking on the sidewalk at Madison and Central Avenue, police said. He was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
About 10 minutes earlier, a man in his 20s was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.
He was taken from the scene, in the 1200 block of North Harding, to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition, police said.
About 2 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot several times in the leg while walking in the 300 block of North Central Avenue. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in “stable” condition, police said.
About 10:50 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 3300 block of North Whipple where somebody in a passing dark-colored SUV fired at him, police said.
He was shot in the right arm and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.
A 26-year-old man was shot about 9 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of East 61st in the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, police said, adding that the man was uncooperative with police.
No one was in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigated.
