13 countries plus UN offer aid in gulf cleanup
Thirteen countries and the United Nations have offered "assistance and advice" to the United States in the effort to clean up the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, the State Department said Wednesday.
"While there is no need right now that the U.S. cannot meet, the U.S. Coast Guard is assessing these offers of assistance to see if there will be something which we will need in the near future," spokesman PJ Crowley said in a statement.
Nations have offered resources such as booms, chemical dispersants, pumps and skimmers, as well as help with wildlife and "research and technical expertise," he said.
Countries signaling their willingness to assist include Britain, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Spain and Sweden.

I hope that Obama is taking advantage of these offers. We've given help to other nations time and time again. It's time to be on the receiving end. Since this is not immigration related, it belongs in the "Other Topics" forum. Thank you.
