Three Latest Polls Leave Democrats Scratching Their Heads, Wondering Where It All Went Wrong

New Gallup polling numbers, collected on the heels of last week’s landslide Republican victories, show a dramatic shift in the opinions of Americans on the Republican Party, the Democrat Party and President Barack Obama.
In three separate polls, the following questions were asked:
(1) Do you “approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President?”

(2) “Please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of” the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.

(3) “Who do you want to have more influence over the direction the nation takes in the next year — Barack Obama or the Republicans in Congress?”
Image Credit: GallupRepublicans were preferred by a margin of 53% to 36% — a statistic which eclipses the previous highs after the 2010 midterms, when the Republicans took over the House and the 1994 election when they captured control during the Clinton presidency.
In summary, the results of last week’s elections, huge victories for the GOP — in the U.S. Congress and in statehouses across the country — accurately reflect the changed perspective of the American public and their desire to take a different approach.
The next question, obviously, is what are the Republicans — as well as the Democrats — going to do about it?
