RedState: Ebola and the Stench of Democrat Desperation

Only base desperation would convince the Democrats that running with this attack at this time would be a good idea rather than a potential suicide maneuver.

Ebola and the Stench of Democrat Desperation

One of the most fascinating things to me during this election season has been the media’s studious obliviousness to the obvious stench of desperation surrounding Democrat campaigns. By comparison to the Republican disaster of 2006, the Democrats are showing an equally obvious amount of fleeing the Democrat brand ID, the Democrat President, and Democrat policies, and an equally obvious amount of fetid desperation in their attack ads.
The latest of these has been the recent attempt by Democrats to blame Ebola on Republicans. Factually, this is an asinine attack for reasons that have been covered here exhaustively already. But the Democrats realize that an attack doesn’t have to be factual to be effective. That is especially true when an attack is released within a short enough time frame of the election that the opposition doesn’t have enough time to mount an effective pushback.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, this particular flag has already been run up the pole in a test market and literally no one saluted. Back in the last week of August, Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR)Heritage
ActionScorecard
Sen. Mark Pryor
Senate Democrat Average See Full Scorecard 9% was trailing (barely) Rep. Tom Cotton (R-AR)Heritage ActionScorecard
Rep. Tom Cotton
House Republican Average See Full Scorecard 82% and decided to try to change the dynamic of the race by releasing an ad accusing Cotton of being pro-Ebola when Ebola hysteria first broke:
How has that worked out for Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR)Heritage
ActionScorecard
Sen. Mark Pryor
S
enate Democrat Average See Full Scorecard 9%? Well, here’s how polling has looked in Arkansas since those ads began to run:
Clearly, in the only known laboratory in which this particular attack has been tried, it has flopped miserably. There’s no persuasive reason that the rest of the country at large will find this attack any less tasteless than the people of Arkansas. Only base desperation would convince the Democrats that running with this attack at this time would be a good idea rather than a potential suicide maneuver.
