7 Takeaways from a WaPo/ABC Poll That Suggest End is Near for Democrat Control

7 Takeaways from a WaPo/ABC Poll That Suggest End is Near for Democrat Control

By Kyle Becker 1 day ago

Ever since the Democrats took control of Congress in 2006 and coasted on a wave of terrible economic news and hopeychanginess into the White House, the left-wing party has been effectively in control of Washington D.C.

A new poll from WaPo/ABC News suggests that it’s going to take more than finger-pointing to save the Democratic Party’s bacon.

    1. America’s on the Wrong Train on the Wrong Track Heading the Wrong Direction

Hardly anyone thinks that ‘Merica is heading in the right direction and typically the party in charge gets the blame. Of course, the Democrats can continue to jump up and down and blame the sorry state of affairs on not getting its way 100% of the time – like it did when Obama first came into office.

    2. Nuh, uh! They Did It!

This is the one that should be having Democrats sweating bullets. Beyond blaming both parties in Congress (most do), the American people now blame the Democrats at a 3:1 clip over Republicans. Ouch.

    3. Could Obamacare Approvals Get Any… Worse?

After the dramatic reveal of the White House miraculously getting 7.1 million Americans to do something with Obamacare, you would think like-minded people would just feel gooey inside and begin to give it the benefit of the doubt. Wrongo.

    4. So, Does Obama “Care” that Most Think Healthcare is Getting Worse?

Not only is Obamacare making many people’s healthcare more costly, many perceive it as damaging the quality of care. Who knew that if you stuck an inefficient government bureaucracy in between doctors and patients, it might wind up making things worse? (Well, just about anyone who has been to a DMV, post office or DMV lately.)

    5. Obamacare’s a Cash-Devouring Machine

Forget saving families $2,500 a year, as promised by the president. Among those whose costs have been affected by the “Affordable Care Act,” a whopping 6:1 believe it’s making their healthcare costs more expensive. That’s fail on a scale so massive, no amount of David Copperfielding it can make it disappear.

    6. Obama’s Approval has Fallen and it Can’t Get Up

No matter how the media try to spin it, more people approve of Obama’s job performance than approve. Somebody call Life Alert…

    7. And… WaPo/ABC Oversamples Democrats, Undersamples Republicans

Beyond the fact that this is a mid-term election year and the opposition party is more likely to seek changes to the status quo (especially under a second-term president), this weighting doesn’t jibe with current party ID.

According to Gallup’s most recent numbers, the breakdown is around 25% Republican and 29% Democratic. Independents make up around 42%.

Republicans (including leaners) is at 41%, and for Democrats it’s at 43%.

In other words, things are likely worse for Dems than it appears.

Is That A Slip And Slide, Or Is That The Voter Turnout For Young Democrats?

6,163 Shares By Emily Hulsey 1 day ago

A Harvard University poll of young voters is teeming with bad news for Democrats:

    1. Only 23 percent of 18- to- 29-year-olds say they will “definitely” vote in this year’s mid-term elections. That’s a steep drop from previous mid-term election years.

    2. Conservative young people describe themselves as more enthusiastic to vote than self-identified young liberals - 32 percent to 22 percent, respectively.

    3. Young people’s trust in government has dropped to its lowest since the survey was started five years ago.
Harvard Institute of Politics Director Trey Grayson explains the findings: “Young people still care about our country, but we will likely see more volunteerism than voting in 2014.”

For a party that relied so much on young people voting in 2012, this year’s mid-terms don’t look very promising.
