AG Loretta Lynch to White House: Keep quiet on Hillary Clinton probe

The State Column, Dan Taylor | March 14, 2016

Lynch apparently didn’t appreciate the White House press secretary’s January comments that Hillary Clinton probably wouldn’t be indicted.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch is advising the White House to keep its lips sealed on the ongoing Hillary Clinton email probe.

Lynch said on Wednesday that White House press secretary Josh Earnest should avoid making comments that downplays the seriousness of the FBI investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email address to host classified information, according to a Politico report.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had asked Lynch during a hearing if government representatives should be saying anything about the ongoing investigation, and she replied that she hoped that “we would all stay silent” as it is an ongoing investigation, according to the report.

The FBI is trying to determine if Clinton, the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, broke any laws when classified information ended up on her server.

Earnest told reporters in late January that there was no reason to believe that Clinton would be indicted for her role in the scandal. He said that the Department of Justice didn’t appear to be moving in that direction. He later clarified he based this belief on news reports, not comments from the Justice Department itself.
