    WHAT ABOUT ETHNIC MINORITIES?

    Greetings Everyone,

I believe that illegal immigration compromises this country in many different ways and I strongly support increased border securtiy and a more strict enforcement of our immigration laws.

My one main concern is this:

I'm an ethnic minority who could easily pass as Hispanic or a foreigner. How do we ensure that vigilante enforcement of the border, as well strict enforcement of immigration laws (both of which are badly needed) doesn't lead to unintended consequences like, unfair racial profiling, or discrimination in jobs or housing, against Americans like me, who don't have blonde hair or blue eyes!

And how would legal immigrants be protected? Being born and raised here, at least I speak in perfect American English but most LEGAL immigrants have strong accents.

Then there is the issue of Hispanic-Americans. How do you ensure their rights aren't infringed upon?

Would appreciate your insights. Keep up the good work!

Just show your legal ID and driver's license with your picture. And I would speak English if you can.

I don't understand why illegals kick themselves by not learning English, as it would carry them a long way.

No cares what you look like. And they don't care if you are of some ethnic background and looks.

They care if you are legal and not breaking laws.

First, to call border enforcement 'vigilante' leads me to believe that you may not be quite what you say you are, but let's go on the assumption that you're not trying to pull someone's chain. I doubt if 25% of Americans have blonde hair and blue eyes, but I KNOW that ALL Americans have DOCUMENTS. Do you? If yes, no problem, if no, you're jerking our collective chain.

There are laws ALREADY on the books that deal with protecting minorites.

    See the above...

People of ALL ethnic backgrounds who are here legally have NOTHING to fear. I was pulled over a few weeks ago because my brake lights were out. The reason: My brake lights were out.

My mother is from a UKRANIAN family of MIXED origins. Yet she DOESN'T consider herself a Ukranian NOR a member of ANY of the NON-Ukranian groups in her family; she considers herself, like Mr. Loya and LOTS of others with minority or mixed backgrounds, to be an AMERICAN, PERIOD!

    Hi enlightened! Welcome to ALIPAC!

I understand your concerns. Unfortunately, there is always the possibility that these situations will arise at some point. Hopefully, they will be few and far between.

My brother is Irish, Italian, Native American, Israeli, and Welsh. He is dark-skinned, with dark hair and brown eyes -- to me he looks Italian. But others have commented about him being Hispanic, although he isn't.

My brother just lets the comments roll off his back. I would offer similar solutions to someone who might be profiled based on looks -- try to let it go. It's not that YOU personally have done something wrong, but people who may look similar to you have broken the law. Keep your nose clean, carry your ID, and might I also recommend having a prepaid attorney handy, just in case (although i recommend that for anyone!).

Again, welcome aboard the ALIPAC train!

EDIT: PS I have the same blood as my brother, yet I have dark blonde hair, fair skin with some freckles, and blue eyes. If I stood next to my brother, you might not believe we're related, but we share the same mother and father. He just looks the Italian side, and I look the Irish side.
Physical characteristics are not always going to lead to the right conclusions, and most Americans recognize this.

The majority of illegal immigrants may be of one ethnic minority, however many are not. Even in that ethnic minority, most are legal as I remember. So lets keep this in perspective.

Rather then judging by skin color, or ethnic group, it isn't unreasonable to expect that anybody should be able to prove they are here legally in certain circumstances, even citizens. Agreed, this nation has been able to avoid that for a long time, the current situation says we can avoid it no longer.

btw, I have brown hair and brown eyes, olive skin, although I am considered white. Many of us 'whites' are not what is considered typical. I'm not sure that blue eyes, blond hair is even the majority, unless its hair dye and contact lenses. My ancestory is mainly scottish and various other.

I am also an ethnic minority and have found that illegal aliens are the ones making it hard NOT to profile me.

    Let me explain:

Any time I am pulled over and show my ID (same state DL as license plate on my car), I have NEVER had anyone ask me for my legal status. Obviously, because my DL matches whatever they have in their system.

The ONE time I did not have my DL with me, I was asked to bring it in asap, which I did. Do I sense that the officer questioned my legal status just from my looks? NO! Why? Because I speak English like a native.

The reason hispanics (in this case) would be profiled is because a HUGE number of illegals ARE hispanic. Not to mention many illegals BRAG about the ease of getting fake ID!

What? They don't think people see/hear/know of this?

WHOM do I put the blame on for this? ILLEGAL ALIENS!

This is one of the things I thought about and mentioned back in 2005. ANOTHER reason for our government to SECURE the borders and ENFORCE the law is for the sake of LEGAL immigrants.

It is not fair for legal immigrants to have to feel this way. Americans should be able to KNOW with CERTAINTY that most all people who are in our country are HERE LEGALLY.

Obviously there will always be some bold illegal aliens who will attempt to break our laws, but when there are millions breaking our laws it is unfair not only to U.S. citizens, but ALSO to our LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

We can only put the blame on our government for this present situation, and unfortunately especially our president who REFUSED to enforce our immigration laws.

Look at how many people got hurt in the process of putting forth his PERSONAL open borders agenda.

It's not fair. It's wrong. It's irresponsible and it has to stop.

PinestrawGuys - to ease your concerns, NO I'm not jerking anyone's chains. But I do think the questions I posed are fair ones to ask. And yes, I have all my ID's and documents in order.

Since fake identification is being used by many illegals, i'm wondering if my passport, Driver's license and social security# will now come into question?
