BROWNSVILLE – Video of vehicles marked Tamaulipas State Police on U.S. soil.
The supervisors of a business contacted Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies about the vehicles Saturday. They were worried about the convoy and wanted to know why they were there.
Sheriff Omar Lucio says they sent someone out to the area to see if there was a problem that warranted the marked pickup trucks to come over.
He says if the vehicles are Tamaulipas state officials, the second they crossed into the United States was illegal.
"It's illegal, okay. We don't have that kind of treaty with Mexico,” said Lucio.
He says the same thing goes for U.S. law enforcement as well.
"No, absolutely not. We don't have any kind of a treaty and we can't allow them because I don't have that kind of authority to begin with," Lucio stated.
He says law enforcement on both sides of the border is not allowed to cross the border while on duty.
Lucio says his officers are still trying to determine why the vehicles crossed into the United States.
