    AMNESTY AND IRRESPONSIBLE CLERGYMEN

Christian groups send me letters complaining about liberal hostility to religion; yet, I learn of major Christian groups that make common cause with those very same liberal enemies and promote amnesty for illegal aliens. The aliens will eventually become citizens and vote overwhelmingly for liberal politicians. Those politicians, in turn, will try to restrict Christians’ practice of religion.

Why do some supposed Christians think that to help the poor of the world (our brothers and sisters as creatures of God) we must jettison all common sense, forsake our European heritage and eliminate our national sovereignty? Are we to believe that God requires us to engage in behavior that is ultimately destructive for others who had no choice? It is one thing for a Christian to make an individual choice to forsake his welfare for the benefit of others, but it is immoral to impose that sacrifice on others against their will.

Why do we have missionaries? Why do we spend huge sums of money on the poor at home and abroad even if they are not Christians? Yet none of this is enough to satisfy the amnesty pushers within the Christian community. They tell us that obedience to brotherly love requires that we reject the very foundation upon which national sovereignty is built. Of course Karl Marx did not believe in national borders either. And indeed from socialism to amnesty there is a lot of Marxism being spewed from the pulpit today.

I am heart sick; I fear that many Christians are being manipulated by scripture quoting “wolves in sheep’s clothing.”

I am aware of Leviticus 19:33-4 and etc. Many Christians claim that this biblical passage must be interpreted as a command that we passively watch as our society is overwhelmed by a mass uncontrolled migration of foreigners. Really? What about the rest of the bible? What about the Tower of Babble (Genesis11:6-9 etc.)? What about God giving land to Abraham’s offspring (Genesis 15:18-21)? What about the “promised land” given to the Jews by God (Numbers 34: 1-29)? What about “render unto Caesar” (Mathew22:21)? And obey government laws (Romans 13:1)? These support the argument for no amnesty.

But most important is 1 Timothy 5:8 “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” In modern coequal language that means, “Charity begins at home.” The U.S. can not absorb most of Mexico and Latin America and stay a viable society. There are 7 billion people in the world. Most want to live here. If we give amnesty to illegal alien Hispanics, on what basis can we deny permanent residency to anyone in the world? And if we accept that idea, we would be rejecting the concept that the U.S.A has a right to exist as a sovereign nation. Some probably know it and others are simply naïve and not too smart, but Christian leaders pushing amnesty are not promoting religious faith, nor morality, nor compassion, nor God’s law. They are peddling a Marxist, secular political religion “workers of the world unite.”

The current national debt is 18 trillion dollars. Is this what Christians want, to add unknown trillions of dollars more to our already bankrupt nation? The burden of amnesty would be a crushing additional burden. Is this responsible Christian behavior and concern for their children’s future (1 Timothy 5:? Is indifference to the cost of amnesty in economic and social stability an unequivocal requirement of God’s law?

A generation ago, within the Christian community, amnesty for illegal aliens was a non issue. That so-called religious leaders have now come out in favor of it in the name of Christianity is symptom of the spreading rot, the systemic gangrene of a dieing society.

You can thank the Catholic Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, the National Association of Evangelicals and their ilk for alienating many good Christians and making them distrustful of any large establishment religious organization; because these religious groups have chosen to shove amnesty upon us, any money that promotes them vicariously promotes amnesty. And you can thank these groups for causing me to forsake my Confirmation in the Lutheran church. I now consider myself to be my own variation of a deist.
