Fueled by Small Donations, Donald Trump Makes Up Major Financial Ground

Fueled by Small Donations, Donald Trump Makes Up Major Financial Ground

    By NICHOLAS CONFESSORE
    AUG. 3, 2016

Donald J. Trump all but erased his enormous fund-raising deficit against Hillary Clinton in the span of just two months, according to figures released by his campaign on Tuesday, converting the passion of his core followers into a flood of small donations on a scale rarely seen in national politics.

Mr. Trump and the Republican National Committee raised $64 million through a joint digital and direct mail effort in July, according to his campaign, the bulk of it from small donations. All told, Mr. Trump and his party brought in $82 million last month, only slightly behind Mrs. Clinton, and ended with an enormous pool of $74 million in cash on hand, suggesting he might now have the resources to compete with Mrs. Clinton in the closing stretch of the campaign.

The figures mark a major achievement in Mr. Trump’s campaign, which until recent months was largely funded by a trickle of hat and T-shirt sales and by Mr. Trump’s wallet. And they suggest Mr. Trump has the potential to be the first Republican nominee whose campaign could be financed chiefly by grass-roots supporters pitching in $10 or $25 apiece, echoing the unprecedented success of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont during the Democratic presidential primary.

Mrs. Clinton has “been doing this for 20 years,” said Steven Mnuchin, a New York investor who serves as Mr. Trump’s finance chairman. “We’ve been doing it for two months.”

Exact figures — including a precise breakdown of total cash raised in small increments by each candidate — will not be available until Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton file their formal monthly reports with the Federal Election Commission this month. And Mr. Trump’s surge is coming very late in the campaign, at a point where advertising rates climb and the chance to invest in a long-term digital and campaign infrastructure is long past.

But the campaign’s figures suggest that after months of dithering and false starts, Mr. Trump has begun to exploit an opportunity that many Republicans have long viewed as his for the taking: marrying his powerful credibility among grass-roots Republicans with the high-tech tools of large-scale digital fund-raising. During July 2012, for example, Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee reported raising a total of just $19 million from contributions of less than $200.

“There was always that potential, but you didn’t have candidates who were as uniquely positioned in the same way that Trump is,” said Patrick Ruffini, a Republican strategist who ran digital fund-raising at the Republican National Committee under President George W. Bush.

The Trump family has to do more than just look sophisticated and make low content speeches and public appearances. This country is fighting for its life. They may benefit no matter which way we go, but millions of Americans are at great risk,

It's up to the voters. Trump is out there every day, making speeches, answering questions, outlining his policies, making it clear what he wants to do, holding press conferences, appearing on shows, he's out there every day. He paid for his primary campaign, he's spent several more million paying bills for the General Election campaign, he fights the Dishonest Mainstream Media on every lie and distortion, he attacks Hillary, he attacks opponents, he's sacrificed businesses and contracts standing up for what we want --a stop to illegal immigration and an end to free trade treason, there is no candidate in US history who has given up more than Donald Trump to win this election to help us fix our country.

And he'll be doing it every day for 97 more days. If voters wants to schmooze with "make nice" Crooked Hillary who starts wars, creates conflict and chaos, calls the TPP the Gold Standard of trade agreements, who supports amnesty for illegal aliens, who wants to raise taxes and expand Obama Care .... who wants to force 70% of our taxpayers who don't go to college to pay for the educations of the 30% who do ...... who lied to a Gold Star Family about how their son died in Benghazi, who has become super rich selling her government influence for money, whose Clinton Foundation is rotten to the core lining their pockets off donations made to help poor Haitians, ....... well, this is a free country, American Voters have a clear choice between the two candidates, and the free right to select one or the other.

Blaming Trump for what voters decide is like the Angry Muslim Khan blaming Trump for the death of Khan's son in Iraq when Trump didn't have anything to do with it.

If American voters want to fall for the phony race card, the xenophobia card, the woman card, the Muslim card, the whatever card the Media and the Clinton campaign want to throw at Trump and then blame Trump for it when he had nothing to do with it, then what's new? Americans have been lied to and many go knowingly down the rabbit trail somehow thinking it didn't matter, because the candidate was "nice" when they lied to them, they were "Presidential" while fabricating their fairy tales about how massive immigration and free trade treason are "good for America" never connecting their pink slips and lower wages to the very "nice" candidates they just voted for.

Well, now they know, because Trump has told and shown them straight up. What Americans do with that information and the choices we have is our doing, not Trump's. If he loses, it's our failure, not his.

When your candidate is being attacked, you defend him. There is no other way to win an election in the United States. So what more needs to be done is not on the Trump family, it's all on Trump Supporters, Trump Voters and Americans who want to save themselves and our nation.

Hopefully there will be enough of us all to win the election and make Trump the 45th President of the United States.

I believe there will be, because I have enormous confidence in the American People at large.
