O'Malley prefers 2-license system for Maryland

ANNAPOLIS (AP) — Aides to Gov. Martin O'Malley say he prefers House of Delegates legislation that would set up a two-license system for Maryland, but would also sign a Senate bill that denies licenses to illegal immigrants.

In the House of Delegates bill, illegal immigrants would not be able to get new Maryland IDs after the law takes effect. Those who already have Maryland IDs, however, could renew their licenses and receive cards that would look different from other licenses and couldn't be used to board planes or enter federal buildings.

O'Malley spokesman Shaun Adamec said the governor believes "there are legitimate arguments for either bill," but he sees the House version "as a more practical, reasonable solution."

Maryland is one of four states that issues licenses to illegal immigrants.

Shouldn't it be considered aiding and abetting if our state knowingly gives illegal aliens a "special identification card" that allows them to remain in our state?

I am outraged.

If a cop pulls over someone and they show this "special" license, shouldn't they be able to call ICE immediately? Or do we just come to the realization that Maryland is a sanctuary state for illegals?

If this "special" license will show the person is an illegal alien and ICE would automatically be called, I have no problem with that. As long as illegal aliens continue to be deported.

yes, the special license means they cannot prove they are in the country legally, but still have the right to drive and apply for jobs. isn't that sickening to think our state will GIVE illegal aliens an accepted form of identification? THIS IS AMNESTY!!!!

and i was kidding about the cops being able to call ICE if they are pulled over. i WISH they could.

however, that will never happen here in maryland. casa of maryland runs this state. not our elected officials. we've lost control to them & hugo chavez (he helps finance them).

Dear Friends:

Annapolis is filled with love! Of course, as I have said before, love in all of the wrong places. Illegal aliens are receiving their usual share of strong support for drivers' licenses from the same old cast of characters.

The Judiciary Committee Chairman, Joe Vallario, and his allies, at the last minute, cleverly cobbled together a phony driver's license bill that promoted amnesty for the 212,000 illegals in our state who presently possess Maryland drivers' licenses. The original bill that entered Vallario's committee was clean and did not have amnesty language. The bill was de-constructed and transformed into the present version which passed the House of Delegates by a vote of 77 to 60.

More than 60 members of the House, including myself, who were co-sponsors of the original, honest piece of legislation, removed themselves from the corrupted bill. It was an historic Friday evening on March 27th witnessing all of these legislators standing up on the floor and publicly announcing their desire to remove their names. The two primary sponsors, one a Republican and one a Democrat, became so disgusted with the process that they also removed their names.

The Senate passed a clean and honest version that complied with the federal REAL ID requirements and contained no amnesty language. This bill passed by a 36 to 11 count.

Now, both pieces of legislation must come before a conference committee consisting of members from both the House and the Senate that will determine its fate. Mike Miller, the President of the Maryland Senate, is strongly opposed to the amnesty version. The Governor has announced that he support the two-tiered legislation that contains amnesty language.

There are two possible political outcomes. A clean, honest and effective bill barring drivers' licenses for illegal aliens could emerge and pass. Frankly, if the Governor signs this type of bill, he will proclaim victory and characterize himself as a leader fighting against the burdens created by illegal aliens. This would put quite a campaign feather in his cap.

The other option would be an amnesty bill which the Governor, expressing his true love for illegal aliens, would sign into law. Politically, that decision would be costly to him.

As you can see, things are very fluid. Anything would happen in the final days of the Maryland General Asylum. The session ends on Monday, April 13th. Should time permit, I will provide you with an update and, perhaps, a list of the conference committee members' names.

I worked very hard on the floor of the House, speaking on several occasions to my fellow legislators about the serious problems created by driver's licenses for illegal aliens. My bill last year, The Voter Protection Act, would have prevented illegals from receiving voter information and from registering to vote with their driver's license application. The amnesty bill, which I oppose, will continue the illegal aliens voter fraud problem. As you know, I have been helping to lead the fight in Maryland against benefits for illegals and the taxes they impose on our system. I will continue those efforts in the future.

i wish. i my opinion, if they are granted amnesty here, and get their fancy special no-questions-asked valid identification at THE TAXPAYERS EXPENSE, i say they should be deported if and when they violate ANY traffic law......

CASA is in control of this state. CASA is funded by OUR tax dollars, yet all they do is aid & abet illegal aliens in Maryland. CASA brings loads & loads of illegal aliens to all house & senate meetings. CASA has most of our elected officials in the palm of their hands. and CASA is also buddies with freakazoid Hugo Chavez.

1.) Virginia & Michael Spevak, of Chevy Chase, MD, 67 & 68 years old, were tied up in their own home and BEATEN TO DEATH by illegal aliens this past November. both victims died from sharp blunt force trauma to the head and neck inflicted by a bladed weapon. KILLED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS!

2.) A 24-year old waiter from Gaithersburg, MD, was STABBED TO DEATH by an illegal alien and MS-13 gang member in June 2008. he was a popular waiter who was simply walking home from work when he was murdered. KILLED BY AN ILLEGAL ALIEN GANG MEMBER!

Lila Meizell, 83-years old, was attacked in her own home this December by illegal aliens who did landscaping on her yard. they entered her house, slammed her head repeatedly into furniture in the living room before determining she was unconscious, poured gasoline over her body and the living room floor and lit a match, lighting the house and her body on fire. Investigators believe she was not dead when the fire started and was burned alive. KILLED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS!

4.) a 14-year old child, tai-lam, YES A 14-YEAR OLD CHILD, was shot to death on a bus by an illegal alien and MS-13 gang member this past November. 20-year-old Hector Mauricio Hernandez, an illegal immigrant, was charged with first-degree murder. and this wasn’t Hernandez’s first run-in with the law....Hernandez had been arrested Oct 3 for carrying a concealed weapon, but was released on his own recognizance when a witness refused to cooperate with police. so he was free to roam the streets and kill a 14-year old. Maryland Delegate Ron George, R-Anne Arundel, says the license policy is cheapening the value of a state ID for other residents. Some states, such as Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma, now require extra proof of identification before they'll license people relocating from states that issue ID to illegal immigrants.

"It's not good," said George, who has twice tried and failed to get the legislature to require state officials to ensure license applicants are in the U.S. legally. "Our residents deserve licenses that are on an even playing field with other states."

Need to support these people here and let them know. BUt look at this other delegate. I DO NOT mean to pass judgement on people but it just strikes me,that these representatives usually have a Spanish surname that "TEND to BEND". I think you catch my drift!

Advocates for maintaining the current policy, such as Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez and the immigrant advocacy group CASA of Maryland, have attempted to fight fraud on their own. In interviews with Spanish-language publications earlier this year, Gutierrez warned that some ID fraud is a felony.

More important, she told the paper El Comercio, fraud "closes doors for those who actually live in Maryland."

And as I said before many times,is these illegals know they are here illegally and the more these open border groups talk and businesses pursue cheap laborers the more their SOB STORIES hold NO WATER!

Businesses run classified ads in Spanish-language publications in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland urging "undocumented Hispanic friends" to take advantage of the opportunity to get Maryland ID without having to prove they're in the country legally.
