Stephen Colbert Super Pac loses treasurer to Rick Perry campaign
Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert's Super PAC had a setback Monday when the its treasurer, Salvatore Purpura jumped ship - to Rick Perry's campaign.
Funnyman Colbert's Super PAC had run ads in Iowa urging people to write in Rick Parry, with an A, leading up to the Iowa Straw Poll.
But those commercials turned out to be a bit of a conflict for Purpura, after Perry filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission with Purpura as his campaign treasurer.
"Obviously, there was a potential conflict of interest," Purpura told Politico. "I told [Colbert lawyer] Trevor on Thursday I would not be able to be treasurer anymore."
The move was a bit of a surprise for Colbert fans, who revel in the faux-conservative mocking of the right wing.
But Purpura, according to this LinkedIn profile, is actually quite conservative.
His experience, according to the profile, includes the 2008 John McCain campaign as well as the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign.
Colbert created the Super Political Action Committee this year. He's allowed to use the money on behalf of any candidate.
Colbert tried to run for President in 2008, but was not allowed on the ballots.

Perry Makes Presidential Campaign Official, Files with FEC
Gov. Rick Perry's made his presidential campaign legal on Monday, filing a statement of candidacy and a statement of organization for RickPerry.org, Inc., his principal campaign committee. Both are posted on the Federal Election Commission's website.
Both documents were prepared on August 13, the same day as the RedState Gathering where Perry formally announced his entry into the 2012 presidential race.
Salvatore Purpura, the listed treasurer for RickPerry.org, Inc., is no stranger to GOP presidential campaigns. Purpura served as the treasury director for the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket in 2008 and as treasurer and comptroller for Bush-Cheney '04, George W. Bush's re-election campaign.
