In my humble opinion it is the parents that perpetuate these problems and are again failing their children by not placing value on education, social responsibility, hard work, etc. We have generation after generation passing on this mindset of entitlement and a complete lack of personal responsibility and responsibility to society. What happened to good manners, being polite, etc.? Is it all about "me" and what I can get our of everyone else in exchange for nothing on my part?? It is evident in our education system, welfare programs, legal system (spilling hot coffee in your lap and hiring a lawyer to sue those idiots foolish enough to sell you (an incompetent coffee consumer) a hot cup of coffee), etc., etc.... I'm glad to see Badillo has the balls to tell it like it is to his own people. At least they can't play the "race card" on him. These same issues are affecting the black community. How long ago was it that Bill Cosby was in the news speaking to blacks about these same issues? That great statesman Forrest Gump said it best, "stupid is as stupid does".

I posted a link to an anti-Badillo, anti-assimilationist website in the registered users section, FWIW.

The most frightening fallout from this is that Latino gang members are probably now justifying their criminal activities by claiming that they are the victims of racial discrimination.

Where is that putrid George Bush on this issue? Saying that they "do the jobs Americans won't do"? And we need amnesty so that millions more anti-American Latinos can stream in here?

Badillo is speaking the truth. Reminds me of when Bill Cosby was criticized for saying something similar re the black community. Parents have a lot of influence on their children's attitude towards school. Society cannot make up for that no matter how many programs there are.
Where I live most Asian kids are major competitive, excel in school and land great jobs. Obviously they are encouraged at home that education is the key to success. Use to be success was based on what the individual did and of course a little luck, no one expected the government to push you along with handouts. Sometimes I think in these pc days people are suppose to act like victims and not take responsiblity for themselves, very sad.

    Exactly.

The Asian-American analogy is very apt.

Right now I'm reading a book that deals with the unfairness of legacy college admissions, and there's an entire chapter devoted to how academically superior Asian-American students are blatantly discriminated against due to affirmative action and legacy admissions.

If the propaganda spouted by these socialist Hispanic activists were true, then Asian-American students-who come from the same impoverished background, and attend the same horrendous public schools-would be doing just as badly as their Latino counterparts.

And yet, that doesn't seem to be the case, does it?
