Unconventional #24: How the GOP could ‘Dump Trump’ in Cleveland (and more!)

Unconventional is Yahoo News’ complete guide to what could be the craziest presidential conventions in decades. Here’s what you need to know today.
    1. Step-by-step instructions: How the GOP could ‘Dump Trump’ in Cleveland

Do we think that the Republican Party will ditch presumptive nominee Donald Trump at its convention in July and select someone else to replace him — a notion that seems to be catching on among conservatives and commentators in the wake of Trump’s controversial remarks about the Mexican-American judge overseeing his Trump University suit?

    No, we do not.

And yet, if there were ever an election weird and wild enough to make such a switcheroo possible — just barely — 2016 would be it.

Cleveland is a long way away. A lot can happen between now and then.

So what would have to happen to make “Dump Trump” a reality?

To give our fellow convention fanatics something to fantasize about for the next 40 days, Unconventional has assembled a step-by-step instruction manual for dumping Trump. If any of these steps are skipped, the whole chain reaction fizzles out. But if every one of them is completed, there is still a chance — a very, very slim chance — that Donald Trump won’t be competing against Hillary Clinton in fall.

Step One: Trump keeps saying offensive stuff

Trump has said plenty of objectionable things since launching his campaign last summer: the Mexicans-are-rapists thing, the John-McCain-isn’t-a-war-hero thing, the Muslims-should-be-barred-from-entering-the-U.S. thing, and so on.

But the Judge Curiel-can’t-do-his-job-because-he’s-of-Mexican descent thing is the first toxic thing that Trump has said since becoming the GOP’s presumptive nominee. The content may be similar, but the context is very different. Before, during the primaries, Republican leaders could brush off Trump’s remarks. He’s not my candidate, they could say. Maybe the voters will still reject him. And if not, he’ll probably grow up in time for the general.

Back then, Trump didn’t represent the GOP. Now he does. So now whenever Trump says something offensive, other Republicans have to choose: Do I defend this? Or do I denounce it? Hiding isn’t an option anymore.

As we’ve seen over the last week, the risk of guilt by association has dramatically lowered the GOP’s tolerance for Trump’s most distasteful remarks.

“ ‘Bigot, bigot, bigot. Racist. Racist Racist,’ ” said influential conservative talk-radio host Hugh Hewitt Wednesday, recapping the morning’s headlines. “The Republican National Committee needs to step in and step up, and go see Donald Trump and tell him to get out of the race.”

Hewitt’s alarmism aside, Trump can probably recover from a single Curiel-style controversy and regain Republican support. But if the sort of pattern he established as one of 17 primary candidates continues now that he’s the presumptive nominee — if this sort of incident happens again and again — more and more Republicans will decide that the only way they can salvage their own reputations is by distancing themselves from the guy at the top of the ticket.

First of all, nothing Trump has said about anyone is racist or bigoted.

Second of all, nothing Trump has said about anyone is racist or bigoted.

Last of all, nothing Trump has said about anyone is racist or bigoted.

Now that we have that out of the way, lets talk reality.

    1. When Trump called illegal aliens from Mexico, rapists, some are.
    2. When Trump said illegal aliens from Mexico are running drugs, most are.
    3. When Trump said illegal aliens from Mexico are committing crimes, they all are.

When you make a statement that is true about people breaking our laws, you are not a racist, you are not a bigot, you are telling the truth.

Same thing with the Judge Curiel.

    1. When a Mexican Judge is suspected of having loyalty to Mexico, "the country of his parents", and being biased against a political candidate who is a defendant in a lawsuit he is presiding over, because that political candidate wants to build a wall between the US and Mexico, as well as deport illegal aliens and enforce US immigration law, that is not racist and it is not bigoted.

    2. The media chose to lie about the actual statement and ask stupid politicians who don't know what the actual statement was or the context in which it was made evoking erroneous replies to an erroneous question. For example, the media claimed Trump has said that "the Judge can't do his job because he's Mexican", which isn't what he said. He said the Judge was Mexican, of Mexican heritage, and is biased against Trump because of Trump's position on building the wall between the US and Mexico.

    3. Trump has every right to make this claim. Maybe the Judge is biased for other reasons. This claim is Trump's opinion, an opinion to which he is absolutely entitled to make. Not every Mexican American is biased towards Mexico and biased against those who want to stop illegal immigration, but Trump believes this Judge is. Given the Judge's membership in the National Hispanic Bar Association that is boycotting Trump products because of his statement against illegal aliens from Mexico in his announcement speech and further given the fact that the Judge is part of a La Raza Lawyers of San Diego organization as well, and appointed a law firm that is biased against Trump because they're Democrats and big donors to Hillary Clinton, the likely Trump opponent in the General Election, and the fact that the Judge is a Democrat as well, this is more than enough evidence to indicate bias and prejudice against Trump for his positions on stopping illegal immigration including such migration from Mexico.

Trump isn't biased or prejudiced against the Judge, Trump believes the Judge is biased and prejudiced against him based on his rulings in the case for the past 2 years since the Judge Curiel was strangely anointed to be the new Judge on the case when there's rumblings in 2014 that Trump might run for President. This claim of a biased Judge was first mentioned by Trump's lawyers in 2014 and they stated to press that the Judge should recuse himself. So this whole issue of judicial bias did not originate with Trump, it originated with his attorneys. But it's very difficult under the bar association rules for attorneys to formally petition a new Judge. It's not a simple matter like the media has tried to portray it. When the court is crooked, there is very little that a defendant's attorney can do. The defendant can make the claim publicly and an attorney can suggest a Judge remove himself publicly, but a formal action through a petition is a big fvcking deal. And if they lose even though they're right, they can be fined, sanctioned and even suspended from practicing law.

Americans need to pay close attention to this issue, because the Federal Judiciary has played an enormous role in perpetuating illegal immigration into the United States. All of US here at ALIPAC should know that. It's a rare opportunity when a political candidate has both the courage, the guts and rulings to expose the corruption in our federal court system with regards to illegal immigration.

One might ask, "why" do our Judges perpetuate illegal immigration? Because many of their fellow lawyers especially Hispanic lawyers make their living through representing illegal aliens, these lawyers are called immigration lawyers who need sympathetic judges to win their otherwise hopeless cases.

So exposing this little secret is what Trump is doing. Americans should be thanking him, not attacking him for expressing his opinion based on his analysis of his own case. The issue isn't just about his case, it's about every case this Judge and many others hear, who gets the favors, who doesn't, and of course the all-important why one gets the favor and the other side doesn't.

People need to remember that just because you're a Judge, you're not a God, you're just a Judge, who is supposed to be free and clear of alliances and obligations from heritage to donations to political party and able to issue good fair rulings. When you're carrying around the baggage of immigrant parents from Mexico where a defendant wants to build a wall to separate the countries and stop illegal immigration, when you're carrying the load of Hispanic identity and a member of the National Hispanic Bar Association that is already biased against Trump exercising a boycott against Trump products, and you're a member of La Raza Attorneys of San Diego handing our scholarships to illegal aliens .... and when you complete an extradition to Mexico and tell the press at the time "what it comes down to is, this is the country of our parents" referring to Mexico, not the United States, I mean .... come on!

Now add the fact that you're the Judge who also appointed the law firm to represent the class action case against Trump, your buddies who contributed to Hillary and the Attorney General in New York, who wrote all 50 Attorney Generals trying to get them to file suits against Trump U, oh my God, come on!! Now that your buddies are the Plaintiff's attorney, they ask for this and they ask for that, and you say "oh sure, anything else"? Come on!! Then the Trump-hating Washington Post asks that sealed documents be unsealed to try to smear Trump in the news and you oblige so quickly you forget to order the documents redacted and have to issue a new order but that's weeks after you've already released documents to the Washington Post that are already on line without redaction exposing on the internet the personal information of parties referenced in the documents? COME ON!!
