The big lie: Farmers will be hurt by Trump’s immigration plan

See: California Farmers Backed Trump, but Now Fear Losing Field Workers

”MERCED, Calif. — Jeff Marchini and others in the Central Valley here bet their farms on the election of Donald J. Trump. His message of reducing regulations and taxes appealed to this Republican stronghold, one of Mr. Trump’s strongest bases of support in the state.

As for his promises about cracking down on illegal immigrants, many assumed Mr. Trump’s pledges were mostly just talk. But two weeks into his administration, Mr. Trump has signed executive orders that have upended the country’s immigration laws. Now farmers here are deeply alarmed about what the new policies could mean for their workers, most of whom are unauthorized, and the businesses that depend on them.”

There is no need for farmers to be “alarmed”. The H-2A Temporary Agricultural Workers program will not be affected. However, farmers need to do their part in helping to keep America safe and they must follow the law! I’m sure Trump has no intention to hurt farmers and will listen to farmers if there is a need to adjust the temporary-agricultural-workers program to suit their needs.

There was a time not too long ago in New York when able-bodied people were ashamed to accept home relief, a program created by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1931 when he was Governor. Now these ticks and fleas use government assistance to buy beer, wine and Lotto tickets.

Your farm workers can come in legally on those H2A farm worker visas. Nothing Trump is doing with illegal immigration should impact your farm business at all in any way. These farm worker visa programs have existed for decades. Many of the visas are never even used. Why? Also there are Americans who will do these jobs if you will properly recruit, train and pay.

They come they work you pay them and they go back to their home country until the next season. My grandfather used this program years ago the local farmers paid for train transportation for workers. The workers would come work picking berries on my grandfather farm then go to other farms and work then come back to hay the fields. They were provided a place to stay and groceries. The end of season they returned home. The same family came to the farms for years and always looked forward to taking their money home and seeing their families. What is so inhumane about this?

Put our low risk prisoners into the fields and put them to work.

Give them a stipend pay and that 75% goes into an account for when they are released from jail.

Many of our prisoners in jail have kids and bills to pay when they get out. Put them to work!
