Billionaire Democratic Donor to Stop DNC Contributions After Government Shutdown Debacle

    January 27, 2018

    Timothy Meads

    The Washington Examiner
reports that billionaire and Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer has announced that he will immediately stop all funding to the Democratic National Committee. Steyer, known for his political activism in recent years, was dismayed by how several high ranking Democrats voted in the recent government shutdown kerfuffle over illegal immigration.

“I don’t have a litmus test on any one thing, but I do have a litmus test for elected officials standing on principle and doing the right thing, looked at holistically," Steyer told Fortune earlier this week. "And I want to say that after the DACA vote, I have decided not to give anything to the national party committees."

Steyer has donated more than $400,000 to several DNC subcommittees such as the senatorial and congressional committees. However, while Steyer will not be giving his money towards the DNC itself, that does not necessarily mean that he will not continue his support of individual candidates and liberal other efforts. As noted by the Washington examiner, Steyer spent $20 million in 2017 on advertisments targeting President Donald J. Trump and encouraging impeachment of the 45th commander-in-chief. He has also spent another $30 million on the 2018 elections.

Last week, Townhall reported that the chairman of the DNC, Tom Perez, was already miserable in his position. Most of his job entails currying favor with the ultra-rich in hopes they will assist the cash-strapped DNC. Steyer’s disavowal of the group will only continue their fundraising decline as midterm elections are right around the corner.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
