Thread: HR 1851 and H Amd 493 - Help - This must be stopped.

Here is another aimed at illegal immigrants.

H.R.1851
Title: To reform the housing choice voucher program under section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937.

On the surface, this looks good, but then you get to the ammendments and find:

H.AMDT.493 to H.R.1851 An amendment to include increased rent structure flexibility while maintaining affordability requirements, an increase up to 12.5% in first year permitted housing agency voucher reserves, provisions spelling out HUD responsibilities with respect to access to HUD programs for persons with Limited English Proficiency, modifications to voucher inspection requirements, and changes to the Housing Innovation Program.

Latest Major Action: 7/12/2007 House amendment agreed to. Status: On agreeing to the Waters amendment (A001) as modified Agreed to by voice vote.

I read through the discussion on the bill and amendment, and not ONCE did it refer to Limited English Proficiency (an educational term). Instead, it referred to low income and very low income individuals and families, disabled, and even veterans and military families. More PC.

The bill has other problems.

If an owner wants to sell, he has to wait or 100% of profit on his property go somewhere else, not to the owner.

The government should NEVER tell anyone they can not profit from the sale of their property.

It allows people to use Section 8 for the down payment on a home.

Nice try, but I don't think the government should be involved in putting money down for a downpayment of a home, and they definitely should not be helping non-citizens to buy a home (legal or illegal).

Included in this bill is language that is identical to the Family Self-Sufficiency Act

This was part of a statement made by one of the speakers during the discussion. I am not sure about the content of the Family Self-Sufficiency Act at this moment. Why does that raise a red flag in my mind?

The bill provides an authorization of appropriation for 20,000 new incremental vouchers per year for 5 years

Again, if we are backlogged, by multiple years in some areas, in the Section 8 program, we should first weed the non-citizens out of the program (they should have legal sponsors to help them financially if they are living here), help the citizens in our States, and then see if we need more vouchers.

The program allows for reporting to the Credit Bureau, but allows the tenant to turn off and turn on the reporting, leading to potential misleading credit reports

Over the years, Congress has grappled with the skyrocketing cost of the Section 8 program which is growing so rapidly that HUD's other programs are suffering as a result.

If this is true, which it is, we need to look at why. And they why is because we are spending our tax dollars on providing housing for illegals. There are citizens in every state that need help, and the funds and vouchers should be utilized ONLY for them.

Mr. ANDREWS: I especially want to thank her [Ms. Waters] for including language that I think will help underdogs, and the chairwoman has been a friend of the underdog for a very long time.


Who is the underdog that Mr. Andrews is referring to? The illegals in Ms. Waters' state would be my guess.


All in all, this bill is truthfully designed to cover the costs of illegal immigration. WE MUST NOT ACCEPT THIS, EVEN IF IT MEANS SUFFERING A LITTLE LONGER.

Let's get this voted down, and then find someone in our area we can help. Maybe your local church could pick one family and sponsor their rent for 1 year, to help them get on their feet.

Welcome Crystal....50% of all American children under the age of 5 have latino parents that are illegal and legal immigrants. All these illegal single mothers qualify for the Hud program because of their American born baby. Of course the illegal father won't marry the mother because then they wouldn't qualify for Hud, food stamps, etc. They estimate up to 60% of the 2 million in the program are these illegals and Sanders(I) had the audacity to stand on the floor and pronounce that illegals weren't abusing our welfare program because it was illegal for them to receive any benefits. I'm sure you heard the Republicans say the waiting list on these programs were up to 10 years and then every time they tried to put in stricter measures against illegals the Dems voted them down. The Democrats have decided to forget and abuse our elderly, our Americans with disabilities, veterans, etc. who need these programs, for the votes (power). We need to stay on top us this.

The American children info was on one of FoxNews Cable Talk shows a couple of months ago. I'm sorry but I watch everything form Cavuto to Hannity to O'Reilly etc. and can't remember which broadcast it was on. Of course the host went on to state that in a few years the US would be 50% Hispanic. I have known for years that on average Hispanics have 5 children per family, Black Americans - 3 and White(Caucasians) -1, but this floored me and is not easily forgotten. The HUD info came from the debate in the Senate and from a friend who works for the Housing Authority in my state.
