A Progreso ISD school board member is behind bars under a $1.25 million dollar bond after being arrested for smuggling marijuana.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 31-year-old Felix Hernandez, Jr. on felony drug charges late Saturday afternoon.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that state troopers made the arrested as part of an ongoing investigation by the DPS Criminal Investigations Division.
A state trooper pulled over an 18-wheeler driven by Hernandez during a traffic stop off Los Ebanos Road and Mile 7 North near Mission.
Hernandez allegedly had 1,250 pounds of marijuana in the trailer.
The Progreso school board member appeared before Hidalgo County Pct 3-2 Justice of the Peace Melo Ochoa on Sunday where he was issued a $1.25 million dollar bond.
Hernandez remained in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail as of early Monday afternoon.
Progreso Independent School District officials were not immediately available for comment.
